Race 1. (12:35) Rhino The Wrecker Plate 1000m
2 Hartshorn (Bet Now: $14.00) on top in the opener. Lloyd Kennewell trained colt that is on debut and looks wound up to go after a jumpout win here on Monday when on speed and he looked to be trucking, going about his business quite nicely. Has the early speed to put himself in a good spot and this doesn’t appear to be an overly strong 2YO race.
4 Roussillon (Bet Now: $3.70) is a James Cummings trained colt that is on debut. He’s bred to be a handy juvenile and the jumpout work indicates as much. He has looked pretty good and seemingly done everything right you’d like to see from an unraced juvenile. Gets D Oliver, so you’d assume this horse is #1 seed for the camp in this race. Watch the market.
1 Doubting Eye (Bet Now: $4.40) creates interest. Price/Kent trained colt that is on debut and he’s had an interesting grounding. He jumped out here and seemed to go well enough before going to Sydney and contesting a Randwick trial where he ran a solid third, beaten a few lengths. Busy work load without racing, so it will be interesting to see how he goes.
Race 2. (13:10) Obrien R/E Cranbourne Classic 2025m
2 Dunkel (Bet Now: $1.80) is a very promising animal for Patrick Payne. Debuted over the mile at The Valley where he appreciated a genuine tempo and was able to slice his way through the field, finishing best to win impressively and running good time. He’ll eat up the trip and a Payne horse that wins on debut is a good sign the horse has above average ability.
1 Skyphios (Bet Now: $6.00) looks much better suited in a race like this. He went down the Derby path and while he didn’t measure up in the big one, he was far from disgraced behind Manzoice. He was only third up in that race, so you’d like to think he has petrol left in the tank and back to this level, a win wouldn’t shock.
8 Reservour Dog (Bet Now: $12.00) is racing like 2000m will suit. His last couple of runs have come over the mile, the latest at Pakenham when back in the run and was never really a factor but closed off pretty well when third. Gets a big jockey upgrade with C Williams steering and he should be strong late.
Race 3. (13:45) Reed Cranes&Tran Marathon-Bm84 2540m
1 Port Philip (Bet Now: $2.35) has been up a while but gee he’s racing so well. He tried his guts out in the Bendigo Cup last time but just couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to High Emocean, who came out and ran third in the Melbourne Cup, so it has to be A1 form for this.
2 Nobel Heights (Bet Now: $6.50) would love to find a firmer deck. Both runs this time in have come on very wet ground, the latest being the Bendigo Cup. He seemed to be trucking on the turn but as soon as he was let down, the wheels were spinning. He’s a good horse. Just wants a decent race surface. Hopefully can get it here.
7 Eaton (Bet Now: $51.00) is on the quick back up for Team Cerchi after racing last Wednesday at Bendigo where the track was somewhat testing and he couldn’t quite pick up in the Kyneton Cup. I think a firmer deck and back up in trip should see him run a much improved race. Doubt he wins, but a first four contender.
Race 4. (14:20) Frankston Sand Soil & Mini Mix 1200m
4 Greece (Bet Now: $1.80) is a very good filly for the Maher/Eustace camp. She is a beautiful sort that has a Group l motor I feel. Resumed in a Geelong maiden where she gave them an absolute spanking from the front and ran really good time without Jamie Kah extending her. Destined for better races than this, keen on her chances, provided the track isn’t too badly rain affected.
1 Crosswinds (Bet Now: $8.00) is a key threat here. Team Freedman trained three year old that resumed at Flemington on Cup Day over 1000m where he was back in the field and slightly held up but he picked up and was strong late when a close up fourth to surprise winner Renosu. Love him up to 1200m and if he’s within range on the turn, he’ll take holding out.
2 Smax (Bet Now: $15.00) is 1/1 to start his career, the debut win coming at Ballarat on the Synthetic. He was wide no cover for the trip but put them away comfortably and was impressive in winning. Not sure he beat much, but he did it in style and maps to get a much better run here.
Race 5. (15:00) Rosemont Stud F&M Pendant 1400m
I think most had put 6 Cardigan Queen (Bet Now: $5.00) down as the good thing on Cup Day in the 1400m Mares race, but the stable didn’t go there and instead run here. Her run fresh on Geelong Cup Day in the Black Pearl was very good given she was back near last in the run and rocketed late. She’ll love the rise to 1400m and if she’s within range on the turn, I think she wins.
1 Paul’s Regret (Bet Now: $5.50) won this race last year and I think is going well enough to take this out. She ran on Cup Day over 1400m and was close up in defeat in a somewhat bunched finish behind Larkspur Run. She looks to be building nicely to defend her crown and this race is very winnable.
4 Fortunate Kiss (Bet Now: $5.50) is a mare with good talent but she has an awful racing pattern, which is the worry with her here. She has been kept on ice since the Tristarc where she was far from disgraced behind Chain Of Lightning. She has the talent to win. Just needs to jump clean.
Race 6. (15:40) Freeway Ford Shooting Star-C3 1500m
1 Vultan (Bet Now: $7.00) is flying for Team Keys. He ran a closing second to Stylish Enuff two back at Ballarat before going to The Valley where they slapped the Blinkers on, he got the run of the race and in a driving finish, he got the job done. Home track advantage, wet track no issue and gets an ideal map.
2 Victory Bay (Bet Now: $4.40) is hard to beat for Peter Moody. Resumed just under a month back at Pakenham on the Synthetic when back in the run but came with a booming finish to launch and win. Yet to tick beyond 1200m, but he’s racing like 1500m will be fine and has change up speed to be dangerous.
9 Come On Eileen (Bet Now: $21.00) will land on the bunny and give cheek. She resumed over 1400m at Ballarat where she had good specking at odds and the bets were landed, leading all the way winner and showing good ticker late. Extra 100m should be fine and this track can play up/in, so she’s right in the mix if that eventuates.
Race 7. (16:20) Cranbourne Cup 1600m
9 Visinari (Bet Now: $4.20) to bounce back on a firmer deck. Price/Kent trained gelding that was a strong first up winner at Flemington before going to the Crystal Mile on Cox Plate Day where the tempo and wet ground just found him out behind My Oberon. Back on firmer footing, back to a handicap, happy to be in his corner.
1 Callsign Mav (Bet Now: $10.00) has the clear class edge to command respect. Rupert Clarke winner that had the tongue over the bit two back in the Toorak in a clear forgive. He then went to the Crystal Mile and the track was too shifty, plus he was nearer the inside, which wasn’t the spot to be. He can certainly take this out.
7 Ironclad (Bet Now: $8.50) is set up to run really well here I’d suggest. Good trial work leading into his return at Flemington where he got a fair way out of his ground but you had to like the way he finished his race off when third to Old Flame. 1600m should be fine and hard to beat if he can settle closer in the run.
Race 8. (17:00) Apache Cat Classic 1000m
8 Midwest (Bet Now: $2.90) is an absolute beauty for Team Freedman that resumes. He’s a strong on speed galloper that resumes, having not raced since April 23 when winning a rich VOBIS race at Caulfield, with sustained speed coming to the fore. That set up is suited here.
6 Scissor Step (Bet Now: $7.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to get past. He ran over this trip on Cox Plate Day and was there to be run down but found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win, just. 1000m sees him right out, but good racing style and has a good second up record.
2 Ancestry (Bet Now: $21.00) is capable with his best. Resumed behind Scissor Step on Cox Plate Day at The Valley where he led at a good clip and just couldn’t quite finish it off when down the track. Leading wasn’t the spot to be for the meeting, so be forgiving, and his best is good enough to take this out.
Race 9. (17:40) Hertz (Bm70) 1300m
2 Arran Bay (Bet Now: $3.20) looks ready to rock and roll first up for Phillip Stokes. He hasn’t raced since the Silver Bowl Final when getting a beaut steer from Zac Spain and in a driving go, was too good for a Stakes winner, Cardinal Gem. Given a good break and with three jumpouts under the belt, he’s ready to go I’d suggest. Hopefully the market agrees.
The early market push suggests 4 Beaufort Park (Bet Now: $9.50) is here to rock and roll fresh. He resumes for Saab Hassan, having not raced since June 25 at Randwick when far from disgraced behind Jojo Was A Man. His trial work has been excellent and the form…gee it reads well. Hard to beat.
6 Kong (Bet Now: $14.00) is a hard horse to catch but he got a win on the board last start at Morphettville on Cup Day where he was given a peach by Rawiller and bolted up. He’s now got that win…can he go on with it? Not entirely sure, but he’s in with a shout.
