Race 1. (22:50) Sky Bet Handicap 2384m
7 Lord Protector (Bet Now: $7.50) has failed at the trip previously as a younger horse, but with time and maturity, he looks to be right on track and deserves a look at the trip again. He ran at Glorious Goodwood last time and didn’t get the rub of the green, entitled to finish much closer when beaten just over three lengths. He’s come back in good order and should take beating.
4 Mahrajaan (Bet Now: $8.50) commands respect. Too bad to be true here two back in the John Smith’s Cup but bounced back to positive form at Newmarket when placing. Gets the Cheek Pieces applied so there is clear intent and he is proven at the trip, so he’s quite likeable.
17 Party Island (Bet Now: $21.00) is a definite threat if he brings his All Weather form to the Turf because six of his seven career wins have come on the Synthetic. Two wins on the bounce leading into this and each time he has been dominant, so keen to see how he goes against this lot.
Race 2. (23:25) Lonsdale Cup Stakes (Group 2) 3269m
I think with a bit of cushion in the track, I have to be with 7 Trueshan (Bet Now: $2.90). He was massive in the Goodwood Cup when a game third to Kyprios in an epic battle down the straight. York so far has raced like a soft track and this guy is a horse who clearly races best when he gets his toe in. Hard to beat IMO.
5 Stradivarius (Bet Now: $2.30) is the grand campaigner who is still the big boy on campus when it comes to the staying ranks, even though his aura has somewhat diminished with time. Somewhat unlucky his past two, but overall, I think he’s had his chance to win each time, the latest in the Goodwood Cup. He’ll look the winner for the most part.
1 Coltrane (Bet Now: $6.50) can book his ticket for the Melbourne Cup with a top three finish here IMO. I was keen on him in the Goodwood Cup and he ran as well as he could I thought when fourth, beaten by the big three. No Kyprios here, so something has to run third behind the top two, and he’s a clear third pick.
Race 3. (00:00) Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2) 1207m
11 Noble Style (Bet Now: $3.90) clearly on top. Charlie Appleby trained colt that is 2/2 to start his career. Debuted with a strong win at Ascot before getting injured and was given a break. Resumed at Newmarket and made a mess of them in a very sharp return. He looks the one that could reach Group l level, so with that, I like him.
9 Marshman (Bet Now: $3.80) creates interest. Debuted with a win at Ayr before having a let up. He then went to Thirsk and made a mess of them, being pushed right out, I dare say as a proper tune up for this race. Good test for him here, but he looks very likely to measure up.
10 Never Just A Dream (Bet Now: $18.00) creates interest. Forget the debut run at Ascot where he pulled his head off. He then went to Wolverhampton and the win was very impressive given he bungled the start. He’s got more to come I think. Whether it’s here, not sure, but a first four threat.
Race 4. (00:35) Nunthorpe Stakes (Group 1) 1005m
15 The Platinum Queen (Bet Now: $4.80) gets the nod in a very intriguing edition of the Nunthorpe. Sustained speed is her go in life and she showcased that in spades at Goodwood last time, spanking her rivals and she smashed the clock hence why she runs here. 51.5kg on her back, Hollie Doyle on, she’ll look the winner for a fair chunk.
14 Royal Acclaim (Bet Now: $2.90) is unbeaten in three career outings and has a recent trakc/distance win under the belt. That came last satrt and gee she was sharp, winning at Listed level and also ran good time. Form around her is very strong and think she can measure up.
6 Khaadem (Bet Now: $10.00) will be strong late. Bless him at the odds last time in the King George at Goodwood, getting the suck run behind the fast speed before Ryan Moore sliced his way through the gaps and drove hard late to win and win well. He’ll need luck, but can win if he gets it.
Race 5. (01:10) Assured Data Protection Ebf Fillies' Handicap 2062m
5 Amanzoe (Bet Now: $3.90) is going through her grades nicely and no reason why she can’t win again. Tick under two weeks between runs since a dominant win over this trip at Ascot where she went through her gears like a nice horse under Joanna Mason. Marquand takes over, she’s hard fit, in form, she’ll do me.
11 Shampion (Bet Now: $4.40) is the one on the up for Roger Varian. Didn’t beat much in a Windsor Novice race last time but she made an absolute mess of them, winning by four lengths, with a gap to third, which is a big positive. Good test for her here, but confident she measures up.
1 Via Sistina (Bet Now: $12.00) is a market watch for sure. This four year old resumes, having not raced since November 6 at Doncaster when producing an end of prep run at Listed level. She does seem a good horse on the fresh side and Jamie Spencer, a regular rider, is on for this assignment.
Race 6. (01:45) British Stallion Studs Ebf Convivial Mdn Stakes 1408m
13 Salt Lake City (Bet Now: $3.00) on top in what looks a two horse. Aidan O’Brien trained filly that is having start two after debuting at the Curragh and I thought she was very good in defeat when second, closing off her race nicely. Ryan Moore takes over and drawn out, should get clear air and be strong late.
Back to 1400m is fine for 4 Desert Order (Bet Now: $2.50). He ran over the mile at Sandown last time and tried his guts out when beaten narrowly by Arrest. The debut effort over this trip at Newmarket was a beauty and the stable are low flying at the moment, so he appeals.
8 Lahab (Bet Now: $9.50) is an improver. He debuted at Newbury where he was very raw and new to the caper, but he stayed on and was good in defeat when third. Fitter, up to 1400m, I think if he can race more tractably, he’s certainly got the upside to be a knockout chance at a price.
Race 7. (02:20) Sky Bet Mile Handicap 1583m
I’m keen on 7 Operating (Bet Now: $4.00) in the get out. Team Gosden trained colt that is looking to make it three on the bounce. Strong winner two back at Windsor before going to Nottingham where the change up speed was there for all to see, making a mess of them. Ryan Moore rode at Windsor and he’s back on for this. Keen.
1 Bay Of Honour (Bet Now: $7.00) is creeping up in the weights, but he’s a horse with promise for Charlie Appleby. Not sure he beat a great deal at Newmarket last time, but he spanked them by a space and ran solid time. The weight rise is a query, but hard to knock the way he’s going.
2 New Kingdom (Bet Now: $12.00) is a stablemate of Bay Of Honour who is an improving type. He was gelded prior to racing at Newmarket last start where he tried hard and actually stayed on pretty well in defeat when third. That was his first run in 10 weeks, so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.
