Racing Victoria is set to make an announcement at the end of the week or early next week as to when crowds can return to metropolitan races in Victoria.
RV CEO Giles Thompson spoke on After The Last about a time frame in which owners and general crowds will return to the races in Melbourne.
“I can’t give you a date I’m afraid, but we are in touch with the relevant authorities and the Victorian Government multiple times a day to try and work through what that looks like,” Thompson said on After The Last.
“With the easing of restrictions and the getting rid of the ‘ring of steel’ around metro Melbourne the next step will be getting owners back to courses in the greater Melbourne area and that will hopefully happen and we’ll be able to make some announcements by the end of the week on that.
“Then the next stage is getting some real punters back to the course and I’d like to think that over the coming weeks and months we’ll increasingly be able to do that.
“But I can’t give an exact date at the moment other than the fact that I know my team and those at Health and the Department of Racing are working hard to try and work out a plan so that it can happen.”
The state governments initial decision to allow owners on Cox Plate day was quickly reversed after public backlash whilst despite hope that owners would be allowed on course for Melbourne Cup week that did not eventuate.
