In Ireland overnight, a regally-bred 3YO won a 1600m maiden in dour style.
His name is RUSSIAN EMPEROR and here’s where he becomes of interest to us.
He is a son of our former superstar race mare ATLANTIC JEWEL, who 10 races in Australia including 4 at Gr 1 level.
This Russian Emperor, is by Galileo and he is entered for all the major 3YO races. His come-from-behind maiden win was full of merit. And came just days after a relation in I AM EXCITED won the Gr 1 Galaxy at Rosehill!
Russian Emperor was travelling OK behind 6 other nicely bred types, who were spread across the track until the 200m mark which is where the Naas racetrack starts a steep climb home.
He picked the bit up at that point, and so the jock pulled him over their heels to find clear air. Once he did he stormed home winning in the last bound.
It was his 3rd start in a race having previously run a slashing 3rd. He looks a likely stayer so the Irish Derby is definitely in his sights this year….should racing continue.
As for I Am excited. Her mother, Lady Beckworth is a sister to Russian Emperor’s 3rd dam, or great grand-mother, named Regard.
His dashing win has given Atlantic Jewel I nice start in the breeding barn.
She has 2 foals on the ground who have raced and both have now won a race.
