One of the biggest boom horses in recent years Royal Symphony has been sold cheap in an online auction and will stand at stud.
The son of Domesday recently sold online in Inglis’ January sale to Claremont Thoroughbreds’ Greg Daffey for $42,500 where he will stand at stud for a service fee of under $5000.
Royal Symphony was trained by Tony McEvoy and won his first four career starts before luckless runs in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude and the Caulfield Guineas where he finished fourth on both occasions as favourite.
McEvoy thought enough of the horse to take on the more experienced WFA horses in the country in the Cox Plate where he again ran a very credible fourth.
Following his 3YO Spring campaign Royal Symphony was one of the most talked about horses in the country but successive tendon injuries and an owners dispute saw him move stables to Team Hawks, preventing him from racing for over two years. He returned at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day where he was heavily backed but finished last and officially retired.
Royal Symphony raced eight times for four wins and amassed over $443,000.
