English jockey Tom Marquand will be out for a repeat performance to start the new year

After claiming a double at Randwick from two rides, visiting English jockey Tom Marquand will be out for a repeat performance to start the new year.

Marquand’s two winners on Saturday came on the Lindsay Park-trained two-year-old Movie Role and Live And Free for John O’Shea who is looking after the 20-year-old during his few weeks in Sydney.

He has two rides booked on Tuesday, the O’Shea-trained Killer Instinct in the 1400m-maiden and the Mike Cattell-trained Just Dylan in the New Year’s Day Cup (2400m).

Killer Instinct is an emergency while Just Dylan is one of five horses left in the day’s Listed feature.

“We just have to wait to see if Killer Instinct gets a run. We just need one to come out,” Marquand said.

“Just Dylan looks like he’s got a good shout in his race.”

Marquand said he had not been sounded out about riding Movie Role in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast on Saturday week.

“Of course I would love to if I was asked,” he said

The New Year’s Day Cup originally had a field of seven but has lost the Lauri Wray-trained Go One More and topweight Our Century from the Kim Waugh stable.

Their absence leaves the Chris Waller-trained last-start Warwick Farm winner Naval Warfare as the odds-on favourite ahead of the evergreen Destiny’s Kiss.

Third in the Christmas Cup won by Our Century on December 15, 10-year-old Destiny’s Kiss shows no signs of wanting to stop just yet.

“He enjoys the stable and he enjoys his training,” trainer Joe Pride said.

“If he shows that’s not the case we will stop with him but he works like a much younger horse.”

Destiny’s Kiss finished third in the most recent New Year’s Day feature after winning it in 2017.

He is headed to the Gosford Cup (2100m) on January 17. He won the race in 2016, finished third the following year and was unplaced last January.
