Ron Quinton will rely on Boss Lane’s affinity with Randwick in the Group Two Missile Stakes while rival trainer Kris Lees believes Le Romain has class on his side.
Boss Lane is a $19 chance in Saturday’s 1200m- feature while Boss Lane is a $19 chance to break through at weight-for-age.
“There are not a lot of suitable races coming up but he is not all that well placed at weight-for-age,” Quinton said.
“He’s not quite a Group horse but it’s a small field and he does go well at Randwick – his record says that.”
Boss Lane, a favourite around the Quinton stable, has won nine races – seven at Randwick and two at Canterbury.
He goes to the Missile off a win in the July Sprint while Le Romain is having his first start since he finished second to Tivaci in the Group One All Aged Stakes in April.
He has had two barrier trials at Wyong and Newcastle to get him ready for his first-up assignment and a good showing could prompt an offer from a slot holder in the $10 million Everest.
Le Romain is adept in the wet with Randwick in the heavy range on race eve.
“Le Romain has trialled really well, and worked well,” trainer Kris Lees said.
“He has returned a bit stronger and I’m sure he is poised for another good campaign.
“With plenty of pace up front, the Missile looks to set up nicely for him and he has a class edge.”
Jungle Edge was one of the stars of a wet Sydney autumn, running third in the Group One Galaxy and All Aged and winning the Group Three Star Kingdom Stakes.
He then travelled to Brisbane where he won the Group Three BRC Sprint and ran second to the Lees-trained Clearly Innocent in the Group One Kingsford Smith, both on wet tracks.
His Victorian trainer Mick Bell nominated him for the Bletchingly Stakes at Sandown on Sunday but has opted to keep him in Sydney where he has been stabled since a Queensland spell.
