Favourite out of 2016 Caulfield Guineas contention

The second acceptances for the 2016 Caulfield Guineas were released today with 48 horses still in contention for the feature three-year-old race at Caulfield on Saturday, 8 October.

The most notable absentee was nominal race favourite ‘Astern’ not being amongst those 48 horses.

Astern was the $3.20 favourite after his Golden Rose win before getting out to $5.00 following the news he will miss the Caulfield Guineas Prelude on Saturday.

It was announced on Sunday that Astern will miss the ‘Prelude’ a key lead up to the race due to a high temperature which was the likely reason for Godolphin to not accept him in the second round.

Godolphin have however accepted with Archives, Drachenfels, Impending and Tessara for the $1million dollar race.
