The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) has announced four charity partners for Flemington’s annual Community Raceday, to be held on Saturday, 13 April, 2013.

Community Raceday is a free admission day, and for the first 8,500 people who attend the VRC will donate $2 to be shared between the day’s charity partners, Living Legends, Riding for the Disabled, the National Jockeys Trust, and the Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

Community Raceday is an important event on the Flemington racing calendar, profiling and acknowledging the invaluable work of local community organisations. In addition to the charitable donation, each partner receives complimentary raceday sponsorship at Flemington, an opportunity usually only afforded to the VRC’s corporate partners.

Racing highlights of the day include the $180,000 Vobis Gold Ingot over 1200m for two-year-olds, and the $121,000 Galilee Series Final over 2500m for three-year-olds.

In their first official duties as the newest Living Legends, 2007 Emirates Melbourne Cup winner, Efficient, and winner of multiple Group 1s including the 2010 Darley Australian Cup and Turnbull Stakes, Zipping, will be paraded at Flemington on Community Raceday.

VRC Chief Executive David Courtney said the Community Raceday charity partners were extremely worthy causes with a special connection to Flemington.

“The VRC is proud to support causes that are aligned to our corporate values, especially in the areas of racing industry welfare and community health and social issues,” Mr Courtney said.

In addition to the eight-race program, Community Raceday will offer free children’s activities including pony rides, arts and craft and, for racegoers of all ages, behind-the-scene tours of heritage-listed Flemington racecourse.
