Tim Clark is having a career-best season in Sydney and the jockey can also play a starring role in Brisbane on Saturday.
The in-form hoop will partner Oaks contender Savannah’s Choice in the Group One fillies Classic at Eagle Farm and 40 minutes earlier he’ll have the prized ride on Stradbroke favourite Sincero in the Group Two QTC Cup.
Clark has a simple reason for feeling confident of getting the job done on Sincero – he believes he’s on the best horse in the race.
Sincero is the $2.70 favourite for the QTC Cup (1300m) with Clark the man handed the task of assuring the quality three-year-old his place in Saturday week’s $1 million Stradbroke Handicap.
Even if it’s only for the one race – Glen Boss is booked for the Stradbroke – Clark is looking forward to getting on the Stephen Farley-trained gelding.
“I’d rather draw where he has in barrier one than come up with 21, I’ll just try and give him plenty of galloping room from the turn and hopefully his ability gets him over the top of them,” Clark said.
Sincero has won his past six starts including the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) and $250,000 Scone Guineas (1600m) in his two outings this campaign.
Regular rider Chris O’Brien can’t make the light weights for Sincero’s two winter carnival missions but Clark has spoken to the jockey about the exciting galloper.
“I’ve had a bit of a chat to Chris, I get on well with him, and he gave me a good insight into the horse,” Clark said.
“He doesn’t seem too complicated and there’s no need to complicate things.
“I’ll try and ride him to his normal pattern and give him a clear shot at them. I’m pretty confident I’m on the best horse in the race.”
Clark has been in career-best form in Sydney this season with 55-1/2 city wins including a Group One double on Doncaster day in April.
He will be chasing another major on board Doomben Roses runner-up Savannah’s Choice in Saturday’s Queensland Oaks (2400m).
“She ran really well last start (in the Roses),” Clark said.
“Obviously the filly that beat her the other day (Scarlett Lady) is the favourite and she measured up pretty well against her.
“She gives the impression she’ll run the trip no worries so she looks to be a decent chance in the race.”
