Connections of Sea Moon are quite optimistic about the future despite the four-year-old’s defeat in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt was beaten just over two lengths in fifth place behind Danedream in one of the best renewals of the midsummer middle-distance championship at Ascot for some time.
That was his first reverse of the season after wins at Goodwood and Royal Ascot.
“There are no plans for him yet. We’ve got to see how he comes out of it,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah.
“On reflection he ran a pretty decent race and we’ll just have to contemplate the future a bit.
“He was beaten just under two-and-a-half lengths. From that point of view, that’s not insurmountable as far as the future goes.”
Meanwhile, Grimthorpe reported champion colt Frankel to be on course for the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday week.
The Sir Henry Cecil-trained colt will be bidding to supplement his victory in the mile Group One showpiece and take his 100% record to 12.
“All’s well with Frankel. He’s heading for the Sussex,” said Grimthorpe.
