Pin `em Down, on target for a Magic Millions Guineas start before he was seriously injured in a lead-up race last month, remains in the care of Sydney veterinarians.

Trainer Paul Murray said surgery to repair the three-year-old’s near hind flexor tendon had so far been successful.

Pin `em Down suffered a deep cut to a tendon during a race at Rosehill on December 31.

“He’s still at the Randwick Equine Centre and it’s only a waiting game now to see how he comes through,” Murray said.

“They operated on him last Sunday week and he’s got a big plaster cast on which will stay on for another two to three weeks before they put another one on.

“The biggest concern is infection. We are just hoping there is no infection in the flexor tendon.”

Pin `em Down emerged as a Magic Millions Guineas hope with a closing fourth against Safusa, now favourite for Saturday’s $1 million race, at Wyong on December 22.

“His Wyong run was very good heading towards the Guineas,” Murray said.

Murray will be hoping for a Sydney consolation win with in-form galloper Alma’s Fury at Rosehill on Saturday.

Alma’s Fury will step into open company on the back of two unbeaten runs since resuming after a Queensland Derby campaign.

Peter Robl takes over from Hugh Bowman who rode the four-year-old to a last-start Rosehill victory.

“At the moment I’m just happy to poke along with him to see how he keeps measuring up,” Murray said.

“I might give him a let-up soon and see what’s on over the carnival but there’s no hurry.”

Alma’s Fury defeated Rolling Pin in a Kembla Grange midweek win before making a successful transition to Saturday-class racing with a determined win over Irish Jig.

Rolling Pin is unbeaten in two city runs since he was toppled by Alma’s Fury, giving Murray confidence his galloper can follow suit.
