Vain Attraction will be looking to redeem herself after losing form on wet tracks when she rises in grade for the Listed Creswick Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
Trainer Robbie Griffiths said he was hoping the filly can bounce back on firmer ground to get some valuable black type while he also has hopes for stablemate You Can Dance who failed last start in Adelaide in a longer race.
“Hopefully they can be competitive but they don’t go into the race with ideal lead-up form,” Griffiths said.
“If it wasn’t a stakes race they would probably both be in the paddock but they are both fillies with good pedigrees so we will have crack.”
A daughter of Bel Esprit, Vain Attraction posted wins at Moonee Valley and Caulfield at her first two runs this campaign and jockey Nicholas Hall blamed the shifty track at Flemington for her failure next run when she beat only one horse home.
She also finished third last at Caulfield on a slow track last start.
“She hasn’t been handling the wet tracks at all,” Griffiths said.
“Hopefully that is it, or she has trained off.
“She might just be just a fresh horse but all will be revealed on Saturday because the track looks like it will be all right.”
Steven King will be trying to improve his record on Vain Attraction having ridden her twice last campaign for a second at Caulfield and fifth at Moonee Valley.
James Winks will ride Redoute’s Choice filly You Can Dance whose best form has been in longer races and who drops back to 1200m after finishing second last to Lucky Penny in the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on May 12.
“We have freshened her up but it is hard to come back 400 metres,” Griffiths said.
TAB Sportsbet’s market suggests the stablemates will be battling to make an impression with Vain Attraction at $41 and You Can Dance at $61.
Unbeaten filly Lady Melksham continues to dominate the market at $1.85 ahead of Zamorar ($3.40) who is the only other runner given a serious chance of beating her.
