Two horses have been disqualified from a race at Scone last Saturday because of a mistake in the weight they carried when ridden by claiming apprentices.
However, the connections of one of the horses who finished third will be compensated for the lost prizemoney because of the unique circumstances surrounding the incident.
Both Josh Adams and Anthony Allen claimed 1.5kg and 3kg respectively when riding their mounts Revenge and Night Chills in the $75,000 Maiden Plate, with Revenge finishing third and Night Chills ninth.
The race was supposed to be a non-claiming race under a Racing NSW local rule because it was run under fixed-weight conditions and was worth over $70,000.
The condition that apprentices couldn’t claim was inadvertently left off the advertising of the program in the Racing NSW magazine but was included in subsequent weights and acceptances released by Racing NSW.
The official Scone racebook also failed to include the provision that apprentices couldn’t claim which led to the two riders competing in the race using their allowance.
The mistake was not discovered by race officials until after the declaration of correct weight.
Racing NSW CEO Peter V’landys ruled on Tuesday that the owners of Revenge would be compensated for the loss of third prizemoney.
