Classy imported stayer Le Roi has been given a solid work-out between races at Canterbury ahead of his autumn carnival return.
Adelaide trainer Tony McEvoy made a quick visit to Sydney on Wednesday to oversee the four-year-old’s gallop.
With Glyn Schofield aboard, the Summer Cup winner worked with stablemate Pelicano who was given an easy time by the trainer’s nephew Kerrin McEvoy.
A two-year-old winner in France, Le Roi has won four of his six Australian starts, the most recent the Group Three Summer Cup (2400m) on Boxing Day.
“His work was very nice and Glyn was pleased with him,” McEvoy said.
“He will return in the Sky High Stakes and we’ll go from there.”
Pelicano won the Listed Parramatta Cup (2000m) earlier this month and will head next to the Manion Cup (2400m) on March 30, a week after Le Roi runs.
“I had considered taking him to the Albury Cup on Friday week but have decided to keep him for the Manion,” McEvoy said.
Both hold entries to the Group One Sydney Cup (3200m) on April 27 while Le Roi is also among nominations for the $2.25 million BMW (2400m) on April 6.
