Galah heads to the Group One Goodwood in Adelaide on Saturday as the Darley team continues to chase a feature win with the well-bred four-year-old.
The Peter Snowden-trained son of Redoute’s Choice out of Australasian Oaks winner Rinky Dink will be first-up in the feature sprint at Morphettville where he will be joined by stablemate Altar.
Galah has shown promise but not delivered on his early potential, with Listed and Group Three success as a three-year-old his biggest wins to date.
Paul Snowden, stable foreman for his father in Melbourne, said Galah arrived from Sydney in good order in recent days ahead of his trip to Adelaide for the Goodwood (1200m).
“It’s a race that he’s ready for,” Snowden said.
“He’s probably going to go to Brisbane, I would imagine, after Saturday’s race but we’ll just see how he runs.
“We think a fast-run 1200 metres might suit him. I think a mile (1600m) probably just pulls him up so we’re trying to keep him to shorter races and hopefully we’ll see the best of him.”
Galah hasn’t won since the Group Three Carbine Club Stakes in the spring of 2011.
He ended his most recent campaign finishing down the track as favourite in the Group Two Villiers (1600m) in December.
Galah has won first-up in the past and his most recent fresh effort was a fourth in the Gilgai Stakes at Flemington in the spring.
“He’s a nice horse fresh and it looks an even sort of race, nothing jumps off the page,” Snowden said.
“He’s got to be in the mix if he gets a decent draw.”
Altar was fifth in the Group One Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide last Saturday week.
“She probably got too far back last start but she finished the race off well,” Snowden said.
The Peter Moody-trained Moment Of Change is favourite for The Goodwood in his return from a freshen-up while Robert Sangster Stakes winner Platelet will be out to make it back-to-back Group Ones.
