Unbeaten juvenile Dram Of Red will have his final start as a two-year-old at the Sunshine Coast where his performance could determine a trip to Sydney for the $1 million Golden Rose.
Dram Of Red won his debut at the Sunshine Coast in March and returned in similar fashion to win over 1100 metres at Doomben earlier this month.
He steps up to 1200m in Saturday’s Access Insulation Two Year Old (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast and is the TAB’s $2.80 favourite to make it three wins from three starts.
Trainer Matt Dunn said he and the gelding’s owners where to go after Saturday’s race.
“We won’t be making a decision until after Saturday’s race. But we went ahead and entered him for the Golden Rose,” Dunn said.
“There are other races for him in Sydney and he is a QTIS bonus horse so the prize money in Queensland is also good for him,” Dunn said.
The Golden Rose is at Rosehill on September 12.
Dunn said Dram of Red had taken a little while to recover from his Doomben win.
“He missed a trial going into the race and I always felt whatever he did in that race he would improve on this time,” he said.
“But I would expect him to improve again after the run on Saturday.”
Dram of Red has drawn barrier 10 on Saturday but Dunn isn’t worried by the draw.
“I know he led at Doomben but at his only other run he came from back in the field to win well at the Sunshine Coast,” Dunn said.
“He is a versatile horse and we will just see how the race pans out.”
