Trainer Sam Kavanagh will answer charges relating to cobalt and other substances given to his horses at an inquiry in Sydney.
Kavanagh was stood down in May amid the ongoing investigation prompted by Midsummer Sun’s positive test to cobalt and caffeine after he won the Gosford Cup in January.
The trainer has told Racing NSW stewards he paid Flemington Equine Clinic vet Dr Tom Brennan for bottles labelled Vitamin Complex which were later found to contain large amounts of cobalt.
Brennan and four other people have been charged in Sam Kavanagh’s case with the inquiry to begin on Monday and expected to last four days.
The vet has also been charged by Victorian stewards in their investigation into high levels of cobalt found in horses trained by Sam Kavanagh’s father Mark Kavanagh and Danny O’Brien.
Peter Moody and the training partnership of Lee and Shannon Hope have also been charged over illegal levels of cobalt found in horses from their stables.
Mark Kavanagh, O’Brien, Moody and the Hopes will find out on Monday whether they will be stood down pending their inquiries.
The Hope partnership will defend their charges in October but dates for the other hearings have not been set.
