World champion sprinter Black Caviar completed her preparation for the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) with a scintillating jump out at Caulfield this morning.
Spectators at Caulfield were stunned by the ease of her trial, which she won by seven lengths hard held in fantastic time.
Trainer Peter Moody said on Monday that today’s jump out would “blow the cobwebs away.”
“She’s very fit and well and forward so this one just tops her off and then it’s 11 days into the Lightning which is the way we planned it so touch wood everything goes according to plan,” Moody told AAP.
The plan is for Black Caviar to tackle six Group 1 races in the next few months.
These include the Lightning, the Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12, the William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 25, the T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 9, the BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 14 and the Doomben 10000 at Doomben on May 28.
She is likely to face a small but select field in the Lightning Stakes, which will include her rival for the title of Australia’s premier sprinter, Hay List.
Other rivals are set to include last year’s Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily, enigmatic Queensland mare Paprika and talented three year old Hinchinbrook.
