High-profile jockey Blake Shinn was taken to hospital for X-rays on an ankle injury after a fall at Tuesday’s Rosehill barrier trials.

Fellow top jockey Kerrin McEvoy was able to walk away from a separate incident but stood himself down from the remainder of the trial session with sore ribs after being thrown into the outside fence by a two-year-old.

Shinn was dislodged from the Anthony Cummings-trained Calamba near the 600m mark during her trial at Rosehill.

The Melbourne Cup-winning hoop was taken to Westmead Hospital for X-rays on his left ankle.

Shinn is booked to ride Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker in Saturday’s Group One Chipping Norton Stakes at Warwick Farm.

“He has pain and soreness in his left ankle but we’ll know more after the X-rays,” deputy chief steward Mark Van Gestel said.

“He said the horse was racing a bit greenly and seemed to run in and strike a peg (temporary marker peg) around the 600-metre mark.”

McEvoy, meanwhile, was thrown from a two-year-year-old on his way to the barriers in a later heat.

Darley Australia’s number one stable rider, McEvoy walked away from the incident but stood himself down from the rest of the trials.

“I’m just a bit sore,” McEvoy said as he left the track.

“The horse whipped around going to the barrier. He stopped before the fence but threw me into the fence.

“I’ll have a quiet day today and see how I pull up.”
