Guy Walter-trained Doctor Doom was rewarded for his consistency when recording an all-the-way win in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
It was Walter’s second win in the $400,000 2000m feature after the success of his champion Tie The Knot in 1997.
Perfectly ridden by Rod Quinn, Domesday gelding Doctor Doom went straight to the front and was never headed, holding off the late charge of Darci Be Good to score by a half-neck.
Sangster was 1-1/2 lengths away third.
It was Doctor Doom’s third win from seven starts which have also yielded two placings for prize money in excess of $320,000.
“He’s behaved like a good horse this fella,” Walter said.
“He’s got a good future, he’s done nothing but improve.
“He’ll go for a spell and come back for the autumn.”
