8/1/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Mornington

Eight races will be run and won at Mornington on Wednesday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

7 Fontaine Rouge (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the one to beat in the opener. Ciaron Maher trained mare that resumed over 1300m at Bendigo where she got a fair way out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up headway and was pretty good late in the piece I thought when third to Hionado. Fitter and up in trip, B Shinn on, she’ll take beating.

8 Mary Eliza (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate getting to 1500m. She debuted over 1300m at Seymour where she got into a decent spot near the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through but stayed on and was sound in defeat behind Seindeel. Bred to eat up 1500m and has a kind map.

2 Rip N Rip (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Matty Brown. He has been runner up in both runs this time in, the latest at Seymour over 1400m when on speed and fought hard but just found one better. Hard fit, good racing style, he’s a threat for sure.

10 Tonkin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of Blue Point for Team Freedman that is first up and I think she can resume with a win. Her debut came on Sep 8 at Bendigo when hunting up to hold the inside/fence and she gave a decent kick but just couldn’t quite see it through when beaten a lip by Durova. Given a good break and has jumped out very well for the return.

2 Controlled Zone (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He returns to racing as a gelding for Ciaron Maher, having not raced since Sep 3 at Benalla when a game fourth over 1200m. Given the ultimate operation and has jumped out well enough to my eye.

7 Do Say (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a So You Think filly resuming for the Corstens/Larkin camp. She didn’t do a bad job in two runs during the Autumn to start her career, on debut in a Stakes race when far from disgraced. She has been given a good break and her jumpout work has been strong, so watch the market.

3 Castellar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the map horse so I am leaning his way. Strong winner at this track/distance last start, sitting wide no cover throughout but he found under pressure to fend them off and get the job done. Maps much better this time around and he gets in very well after the claim.

4 Earth God (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. That win came at Caulfield Heath where he led throughout and gave nothing else a look in to win quite impressively. Looks to land on speed here once again and be around the mark.

2 Excess (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver for Julius Sandhu. This mare resumed over 1000m at The Valley when wide no cover on speed throughout and that early burn just told on her late in the piece behind the very much in form Fickle. Had jumped out well prior so don’t dismiss her.

5 Cameron Falls (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the way I am leaning but not a whole lot of interest. Team Hope trained mare that ran at Seymour last time out. She got into a decent spot off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the job when third to New Sovereign. Ideal map, racing well and strikes a winnable race.

4 Flying Ace (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win. He ran at Cranbourne on Saturday night when attempting to lead throughout and giving a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t see it through, run down late by Rich Lover. Knocking on the door and has run well here previously.

6 Maid In Dubai (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Craig Weeding and deserves a crack in town. She has won two on the bounce, the latest win coming at Wangaratta where she gave them a start and a beating and was quite strong to the line in winning. Good test here, but confident she measures up.

1 Jennyanydots (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top for me. Mitch Freedman trained mare that was a winner at this track/distance last time out, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. That was her first run in six weeks so she has upside/improvement to come and is a line finder. Like her here.

3 Smart Return (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and has earned a crack in town. Got into a sweet spot in transit last time out at Horsham but she still had to take advantage, which she did, and was impressive the way she put them away. Think she can measure up against these.

4 Frose (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the likely leader and from there, she’ll give cheek. She got front end control at Nhill last start and gave nothing else a look in, winning impressively. If this track is playing up/in, she becomes somewhat dangerous at odds.

11 Ginger Sweet (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win and she strikes a winnable race here. Peter Gelagotis trained mare that has placed in both runs back from a spell, the latest over 1700m at Sale where she seemingly had every chance but battled on really well in defeat. Hard fit, B Shinn on, kind map, like her against these.

3 Salsita (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing really well at present for Team Browne. Hasn’t raced since Dec 12 over this track/distance when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort in defeat behind Pure Grunt. Finds a winnable race here and should be strong at the end.

7 Ruada (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves a crack in town after a dominant win at Moe last start. He did have the A1 run in transit but he took advantage of it and was impressive in the run to the line. 1800m is no issue and is a winner whereas some of these are struggling to greet the judge first.

Landed with 4 Dragoon (Bet Now:  $SP.00). He is racing really well at present for Greg Eurell, winning two on the bounce, both coming at Caulfield Heath, with the latest being over the mile when falling in. Tricky gate but B Shinn sticks and strikes a winnable race despite the 2000m query.

11 Kings Valley (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the key and I’d say only threat. He has been kept on ice since a Dec 18 romp at Caulfield Heath where he had the suck run in behind before angling clear and he made a mess of them late in the piece. 2000m should be fine, maps ideally, hard to beat.

1 Thorin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back up in trip after being 2000m back to 1800m at Caulfield Heath last time when attempting to lead throughout and giving a solid kick but just couldn’t quite see it through when third to Bon Mistress. If he gets front end control, he’ll take beating.

10 Hustle In Heels (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a smart filly for Julius Sandhu. This girl comes here off the back of a debut win over this track/distance when on speed and was trucking before Mott clicked her up and away she went to win and win well. Jumps to 64 grade but this isn’t a deep race. Keen on her prospects.

4 Written Bligh (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a model of consistency for Grahame Begg and suspect that trend will continue here. She resumed over 1000m here when on speed and she tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through when second to Rock Melody. Fitter and up in trip, she takes beating.

1 Raetihi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Dec 13 at The Valley when keen in the run and found nothing under pressure, finishing down the track. Fresh legs and back in trip, I say watch the market and see what it does.
