Doomben will play host to a nine race card on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (11:23) Brc Membership Hcp 1350m
3 Hamlet Von Snitzel (Bet Now:Β $1.70) has really put it together this time in. Market loved him when racing here last Wednesday and it was proven spot on. He led throughout and was much too good for them from the front, with the time stacking up really well with the B68 on the same meeting. Hard to beat.
1 Release The Beans (Bet Now:Β $4.00) is a Rob Heathcoate trained three year old that is three weeks between runs since winning narrowly at Eagle Farm, finishing best in a tight go. Done little wrong in his career to date. The only little niggle with him is whether he can run a strong 1350m.
2 Derani (Bet Now:Β $8.50) commands respect for the very much in form Kacy Fogden camp. Was a game second at Grafton two back before going to Ipswich when getting the job done and beating Sacca, who spanked them at the Sunny Coast on Sunday. Hard fit, racing well and is a key chance.
Race 2. (11:58) Gallopers Sports Club (bm90) 2200m
4 Tavion Prince (Bet Now:Β $5.50) has been up a little while but gee he’s racing in good form for Tony Gollan. The barrier trial tempo beat him here two weeks ago. It was ordinary steering from those behind the eventual winner, handing it the race, the set up not suiting this guy. Hopefully a positive steer sees him roll forward and take beating.
3 Last Week (Bet Now:Β $5.50) is a very interesting runner. Maher/Eustace trained gelding that comes to Brisbane three weeks between runs since a plain effort at Randwick, but that track was near bottomless and he struggled in the conditions. Better suited here and he does have a touch of quality.
7 Top Order (Bet Now:Β $14.00) has been up a little while but continues to race well. He was enormous in defeat at Doomben last time out. Just got too far back in the run but really liked the way he finished his race off when fifth. Good the start prior behind Tavion Prince, he can win without surprising.
Race 3. (12:33) Cascade Plate (c3) 1050m
1 Contemptuous (Bet Now:Β $3.40) is a son of Rubick for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp that resumes and I think he resumes a winner. He hasn’t raced since April 16 when getting the job done in good style at Ipswich. He’s a noted fresh performer who likes racing here and has trialled well to get ready.
6 Aviemore (Bet Now:Β $9.00) can bounce back hard here. Resumed a few weeks ago at Eagle Farm and she ran an absolute shocker behind Cinderella, but I am putting that down to not handling the Eagle Farm track. Is a two time winner at Doomben and she does have a touch of class.
10 Wicked Wench (Bet Now:Β $31.00) is a talented mare that should prove hard to beat here. First run for Barry Lockwood came at the midweeks at Eagle Farm where she was tucked in behind the speed before angling clear and she chased strongly when second to Princess Tenko. The stable can improve a tried horse and it looks like they have and will continue to improve this mare.
Race 4. (13:08) Racecourse Village Hcp (c6) 1600m
10 Dzsenifer (Bet Now:Β $3.10) looks the most obvious. Gary Duncan four year old that ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and did a really good job in defeat I thought given the lack of early tempo, which ensured it was a sit/sprint. She just missed out on the win. Bursting to break through and she gets her chance.
4 Prospectus (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is a Chris Waller trained gelding who is generally around the mark in these kind of races and does have a liking for Doomben. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and I thought he closed off his race with real purpose in a good effort behind Willo Titto. Hard to beat if he can sit closer in the run.
5 Ziemba (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is nearly at last chance territory. He was backed with confidence when racing at over 1350m here two weeks back and though held up, I thought he was out in time to finish off his race better. Prior efforts suggested a win was near, so giving him another chance.
Race 5. (13:47) Xxxx Dry (bm72) 1600m
10 Makedon (Bet Now:Β $8.50) is best suited over a bit further, but he is first up here for Gary Duncan and first up last prep, he resumed at the mile and spanked them in a maiden so like that he resumes here, telling me they’re not wasting a run. Showed promise when racing in town last prep and has trialled well to get ready. Tricky race, but he’ll do me.
11 Nemingah (Bet Now:Β $18.00) will likely put himself near the speed and try hard. That was the case when resuming in the Sawtell Cup. Just felt the pinch late when third to Greek Hero. That reads well for a race like this, he is one with upside and has a good racing pattern to give himself every chance.
4 Hellava Babe (Bet Now:Β $16.00) is a mare that is flying and can measure up here. She was given a peach steer by Bubba to take out the Gatton Cup last start, finishing best and doing a really good job with the big weight. Harder here, but reckon she’s a knockout chance in a competitive race.
Race 6. (14:27) Tab Venue Mode (rs0mw) 1200m
I haven’t minded the way 6 Frozen In Time (Bet Now:Β $19.00) has returned for Kris Lees. Two runs back in Sydney have been quite good. Close up behind Seleque fresh before going to the Kenso track just over two weeks when somewhat luckless behind Exceltic. Back a fair bit in grade here, she’ll take beating I’d suggest.
5 Purroni (Bet Now:Β $11.00) tends to race well with fresh legs and should prove hard to beat here for Tony Gollan. Resumed a few weeks ago over 1350m off a freshen up at Ipswich when on speed and to her credit, she fought on strongly. Just no match late for surprise winner At Witz End, who has well and truly franked the form since. Like her on the bigger track. Hard to beat.
4 Front Money (Bet Now:Β $11.00) has been a real model of consistency this time without winning but that all changed at this track/distance when leading throughout last time and gee she was dominant in spanking her rivals. Now her confidence is up, she could well go on with it.
Race 7. (15:07) Ctry Music W'end 10-11/9-rs0mw 1200m
11 So Clever (Bet Now:Β $1.85) is a smart gelding for John Moore. Put together a couple of very sharp wins before racing here two weeks ago where he was backed as if unbeatable but a tardy beginning severely hampered his chances, and really, he did a remarkable job to get as close as he did to Luskin Hero. Hard to beat with a clean get away.
12 Far Too Easy (Bet Now:Β $3.90) could be one right out of the box. Just don’t know yet but he is newly three and is taking on the older horses at start three, so it will be a fair effort if he can win, but his two starts/wins to date suggest he is indeed above average and IMO is the only other winning hope.
1 Fuji Flyer (Bet Now:Β $13.00) is around the mark more often than not. He races well for the most part, but does save his best for the Gold Coast, so that is the query here, but he did run at this track last start and was good late when third to Luskin Hero. I think has to command respect here.
Race 8. (15:47) Sky Racing Hcp 1110m
I just can’t see how 3 Just Orm (Bet Now:Β $15.00) doesn’t run well here and $14+ for him in early markets looks very much overs I thought. He is a proper open/listed class sprinter that is taking on benchmark horses here for the most part and yes, ran third to Totally Charmed last time, but that horse will be back near last whereas this guy, from gate one, can land box seat and for mine, he only runs well.
5 Shooting For Gold (Bet Now:Β $2.15) has done nothing wrong this time in for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp, winning 2/2, both over 1000m at Eagle Farm, the latest run coming three weeks back where he was heavily backed as an odds on pop and didn’t disappoint punters. Hard to knock the way he’s going.
2 Freddie Fox Trot (Bet Now:Β $31.00) is a son of Foxwedge for Les Kelly that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since the Keith Noud during the Summer Carnival when outclassed behind Jonker. Just one quiet trial to get ready but can sprint well fresh and likes racing at Doomben.
Race 9. (16:23) Jockey Celebration Day (bm85) 1350m
13 Really Discreet (Bet Now:Β $2.05) has found winning form and I think she can go on with it. Far from disgraced two back in the Rocky Newmarket before racing here two weeks ago where she lobbed into a lovely spot and once Maloney pushed the button, away she went and she was dominant. She can win again.
4 Roman Aureus (Bet Now:Β $6.00) looks ready to win. Just had to chase a strong speed two back when second to At Witz End. Raced again here a fortnight back when wide no cover for the trip yet had the audacity to shoot clear and look home, only to be nabbed late. If that run hasn’t busted him, I think he’ll take beating.
6 Supergiant (Bet Now:Β $19.00) is the watch horse. Michael Costa trained four year old that resumes after a two run prep in the Autumn where he was terrible after such a promising Summer Carnival. His best is good enough to be dangerous and his trials indicate he’s come back well. Knockout chance.
