Friday is Wyong Cup Day and the 2100m feature contest has attracted one of the better fields in the history of the race, along with a good race for the mares via the Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m). The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:55) Priority Business Lawyers Maiden Plate 1350m
Tricky maiden this but in the corner of 9 Parveen (Bet Now: $3.50) for James Cummings. She had a few weeks off prior to racing over 1300m at Hawkesbury where she was back near last from the wide gate and worked to the line strongly late to run a close up third to Nuclear Summit. Has the potential to sit closer in the run this time around and she gets another chance to break the maiden tag.
1 Canasta (Bet Now: $3.90) is a Bjorn Baker trained galloper who was good on debut when second to Our Blue Moon at Goulburn. That ensured he was a short priced elect in what looked a weak Bathurst maiden and I thought he had every chance when running second. That Bathurst track can be tricky for certain runners so I think forgive and give him another chance.
I like the look of 5 Version Two (Bet Now: $5.50) for Peter Robl and I think he’ll make a nice horse over time. Was good on debut over 1000m at Gosford before going to 1100m at Nowra on a day where those on speed were advantaged and I thought he found the line okay late from back in the run. Think up to 1350m will really suit him and is a definite knockout chance.
Race 2. (13:35) Bishop Collins Accountants Handicap 1200m
Going the way of 3 Impudens (Bet Now: $2.90), who resumes for Kris Lees. This colt has only had one start, which came over 1100m at Warwick Farm during the Autumn when a solid third to impressive winner Not Feint Hearted. Been given a good break and has been prepared for his return with three trials, and the latest trial was impressive, so for mine, he’s ready to go.
1 Katakeri (Bet Now: $2.20) is a son of Denman for James Cummings making his debut. Has had several trials throughout but just one this time in, which came at Rosehill and I liked the way he moved in behind Cock Match. He looks to be well educated for his debut and finds a winnable race here for start one, but I think just watch the market and see what it does with him.
4 She’s So Savvy (Bet Now: $10.00) is an interesting runner. John Sargent trainst his daughter of So You Think who has only had the one start, which came over 1200m at Gosford when third behind a handy one in Regal Stage. Thought her trial at Warwick Farm was pretty good and though perhaps better suited over a bit further, I reckon she has her share of ability.
Race 3. (14:10) Central Coast Coolrooms Handicap (Class 2) 1200m
I think 6 Famous (Bet Now: $4.60) can get back into the winners list. He landed some big bets when winning his maiden first up at Newcastle before going to the Up And Coming at Randwick when on speed and tiring late, but that race had far more depth than what he faces here, and despite being well beaten, he looked outstanding in the yard. Holds his condition, he just about wins.
8 Raay Of Dreams (Bet Now: $10.00) is a daughter of Dream Ahead resuming for Kris Lees. This girl did most of her racing in her first prep in Queensland, and gee the form around her does read quite well, with the likes of Alligator Blood and and Niedorp in there, both of those being two of the better younger gallopers up in that part of the world. Two trials leading in have been quite good but I think watch the market and see what it does.
4 Oakfield Twilight (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Damien Lane trained gelding that had good specking when resuming at the midweeks at Canterbury and it was an ugly watch if you got the overs. Had the sweet sit behind the speed but couldn’t get a crack at them in the straight when appearing to have something to offer in a total forgive. Have to give him a chance here.
Race 4. (14:45) Australian Bloodstock Handicap (64) 1600m
I reckon 15 Sculptures (Bet Now: $17.00) is a really good each way gamble here. Saves his best for Wyong and I think he finds a really winnable 64 here. He was very good when placing at this track/distance two back before going to 1900m at Canterbury where the race shape was against him but his late splits were good. Drops back to this grade, looks to be a bit of speed…can see him running really well.
3 He’s A Given (Bet Now: $5.00) would be a good thing if this was a wet track, but that aside, I think Clarry Conners has this veteran flying. His last two runs have come over 1400m at Warwick Farm on firm ground and his late splits have been great despite the track conditions. Gets similar here, but drops a mile in depth and if he can overcome the tricky gate, he’s the one to beat on form.
7 The Iron Maiden (Bet Now: $18.00) loves racing here and I think that trend will continue, even though she would love a bottomless surface. Did a bit of work last time out at Newcastle but stuck to the task really well in defeat behind Zoffany’s Lad, a race which had much more depth than what she faces here, and I think she will be much better suited at the mile.
Race 5. (15:20) Da Vinci Handicap (64) 1300m
Up to 1300m looks a good set up for the James Cummings trained 10 Camp Rifle (Bet Now: $2.70). Impressive winner on debut over 1200m at Kembla before stepping back to 1100m at Hawkesbury where he got back and found the line strongly late when a narrow third to Defeat. Back up in trip looks ideal for this gelding and for mine, he’s one of the better bets on the card.
3 Bucephalus (Bet Now: $4.60) looks the key threat. He comes through the Defeat race mentioned above and gee if you were on him, apologies for bringing up the nightmare again. I think he should have finished much closer. Not sure he wins though but was still a clear unlucky run in behind the Tracey Bartley runner. J Mac on, soft gate, looks hard to beat here.
5 Enseguida (Bet Now: $8.00) is a Nathan Doyle trained galloper that looked in need of the run first up at Dubbo before going to the 1300m at Scone where he was ridden aggressively to find the front and he gave nothing else a look in, bolting up for an impressive win. Harder here, but looks to map okay in getting across without doing too much work and a dry deck at Wyong usually suits on pace runners.
Race 6. (15:55) Mona Lisa Stakes 1350m
She’s bursting to win a race is 13 Organza (Bet Now: $7.00) and she gets her chance. Just found the track too wet two back when second to surprise winner Travimyfriend before going to the mile at Flemington where she looked to get a sweet steer just off the speed and looked the winner when she hit the front, but was bloused late by Kentucky Breeze. Knocking on the door to win and she gets her chance.
16 Connemara (Bet Now: $4.20) deserves a crack at blacktype. This mare has been a real model of consistency but was struggling to win, so I had enough of her from a punting perspective. Came out and bolted up over 1400m on the Kenso track last time, aided by a 12/10 steer from Nash. Back to 1350m is no issue, she’s hard fit and now has winning form next to her name.
5 Laburnum (Bet Now: $12.00) is a talented mare for James Cummings who had just one soft 700m trial leading into her resumption a few weeks back on the Kenso track and I loved the way she attacked the line late to run third to All Too Royal despite parading like she would improve significantly with the run under the belt. 1350m, fitter…she looks a serious threat here.
Race 7. (16:35) Wyong Gold Cup 2100m
I think the bet each way here is 3 Stampede (Bet Now: $3.10). I thought he was outstanding in defeat behind stablemate Wolfe in the Premiers Cup Prelude a few weeks ago. Admittedly he got a good time of it on speed along with Wolfe, but still had 63kg to lump and to dash as well as he did with the weight tells me he’s just about back on track and if he can lead again, I think he’ll be really hard to run down.
This does look a clear plan for 2 Our Century (Bet Now: $12.00) to win the hometown Cup first up. Kim Waugh trains this Australian Bloodstock runner, who has had three trials in readiness for his crack at the race, and each time he has looked the part. He does seem to be a really good horse when produced with fresh legs and is one of the hardest to beat here.
16 High Opinion (Bet Now: $31.00) looks back on track. He had gone off the boil somewhat but was spelled after the Ipswich Cup and resumed in the Premiers Cup Prelude where I thought he was outstanding in defeat off the moderate tempo, finishing off strongly late to run fourth to Wolfe. I dare say his main target will be the Newcastle Cup, and may already want further, but from the Prelude, outside the WaterBott pair, he’s the horse I have eyes on.
Race 8. (17:15) Springtime Handicap (70) 1100m
3 McCormack (Bet Now: $5.00) is a son of Eurozone for Tracey Bartley that resumes. This bloke hasn’t raced since the Guineas during the Scone Carnival when far from disgraced behind Wild Planet in what was a strong race, much stronger than this. Liked the way he found the line in a recent trial behind Jonker and if they go silly in front, he’ll be one of the strongest late.
4 Maroch (Bet Now: $4.20) is a Mark Newnham trained gelding that produced a big effort to win first up over 1100m at Gosford given he set a pretty solid tempo in front and was there to be run down but Nash got stuck in when it counted and the horse dug in to score a super win fresh. Think there is a bit more pressure here so may have to work from the tricky gate but I like the look of him.
13 Difficult To Get (Bet Now: $15.00) is one that could be a knockout chance at odds. This mare was just under two months between runs when racing in the Lightning on Taree Cup Day and found the line quite well I thought when third to Red Notice, beaten around two lengths. Has a good record at Wyong, fitter, draws well and should have room for improvement. Hard to beat.
