Eagle Farm will play host to a nine event meeting on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out five metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (11:38) Brc Membership On Sale Now-C3 1000m
2 Nashira (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Zoustar that resumes for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. This guy did a pretty good job when last in work, winning a couple on the bounce before a closing fifth against the pattern at Doomben. He races well on the fresh side and thought he closed off nicely in a recent trial at Doomben. Spots them a start but should be strong at the end.
6 Devastating (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep and is hard to beat. Three weeks between runs since resuming at this track/distance when just off the speed under Maloney and presented to win the race but first up in just under 12 months, he couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Kat Chinna. He’ll take loads of improvement off that and his best is clearly good enough for a race like this.
3 Nord Lyon (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. Chris Anderson trained gelding that ran in the Kat Chinna race from three weeks back here. He was very tardy away, getting back to near last in the run and while he was never a threat, I did like the way he found the line late in the piece. He is a jump/run type so if he jumps, he’ll land on speed and take beating.
Race 2. (12:13) Mount Franklin (Bm90) 2200m
1 Bartholomeu Dias (Bet Now: $SP.00) has tended to save his best for Eagle Farm in recent times so returning here, he’s the way I am leaning but not a whole lot of confidence. He ran three weeks ago over 1800m at Randwick when back in the run and while he was never a threat, he didn’t get the rub of the green and was entitled to finish closer behind Bold Mac. Back a fair bit in depth, up in trip, happy to be in his corner.
4 Otyrar (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks hard to beat against this lot. Chris Waller trained gelding that was far from disgraced two back in the Ipswich Cup before having a mini break and going to 2000m at Doomben a fortnight back when back off the speed and tried to get involved but given the break between runs, he just lacked the condition to go with them late behind Stuck With You. He has that run under the belt now and back to Eagle Farm, he’s hard to beat.
6 Mirann (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win for Matty Dunn. Looked like that win would come last start over this trip during the Grafton Carnival and did look the winner when he dashed, but had to settle for a close up second to Spoke To Rajiv. He hasn’t really set the world on fire since arriving from overseas but does strike a very winnable race.
Race 3. (12:48) Nat. Jockeys Celebration-Bm70 1200m
3 Tango Fever (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat. Rob Heathcoate trained filly that looked a moral when resuming here three weeks ago and under a confident steer from Harley, she had plenty on them and duly saluted. Did she beat much? Probably not, but the manner in which she put them away was impressive and off that, confident she can make it 2/2.
2 Kitri (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key threat for Michael Nolan. This filly was far from disgraced in defeat two back behind Tango Fever before backing up a week later at Doomben when launching late from near last to finish over the top for a big win in what was a fast run mile. Think getting back to Eagle Farm will help her cause, give her more time to wind up and off a win, she’s in with a shout.
1 Acres Away (Bet Now: $SP.00) deserves a crack in town. He’s been too good for them up North, the latest win at Mackay when giving them a start and a beating in a pretty impressive display. There is a bit of depth to this line up but he’ll be strong at the end of 1200m and we saw last week that the North Queensland runners can measure up in town.
Race 4. (13:23) Ctry Music Raceday 9/9 (Bm85) 1000m
6 Hold On Honey (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an O’Dea/Hoysted trained gelding that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since March 18 at Doomben when just off the speed and found the line strongly when third to Situation Room, who was flying at the time. He is a gun fresh horse and off his recent trial effort, I think he’s ready to go. Hard to beat against these.
8 Jemeldi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door. Far from disgraced two back over 1200m behind Win Burn at the Sunny Coast before coming back to 1000m a fortnight back and loomed large to win but couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Vodka Martini. He’ll be stronger than most at the end, he’s hard fit, in form…appeals.
4 Shamrock Lu (Bet Now: $SP.00) has fresh legs leading into this and 1000m at Eagle Farm looks a decent set up. He ran over 1000m several weeks back at the Sunny Coast and loomed to win when Orman presented him but he just couldn’t quite get there when a narrow third to Rubiquitous. I think with a patient steer, a drag into the race, he will be effective late and is a leading contender.
Race 5. (13:58) Sky Racing (Bm72) 1200m
Could be a case of good luck beating 10 Allegretta (Bet Now: $SP.00). Formerly with Peter Moody, she now finds herself with O’Dea/Hoysted. This mare showed good promise when last in work, including a second down the straight at Flemington. To my eye, she finds a winnable race as a kick off point and her trial win indicates she is flying. Her best is better than these IMO.
5 Field Wiri (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a smart mare for Team Freedman that should prove hard to beat against these. Showed good ticker to win a tidy race at Newcastle two back before going to Doomben two weeks ago and worked home strongly from near last when beaten just over a length by Inasec. She was 1200m back to 1110m so back up to 1200m, bigger track, she’ll take holding out.
6 Power Boom (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. This mare was a close up third to Ready For Anything fresh here. She then raced at Doomben when nearer the inside behind the speed and didn’t really get a chance to build the revs behind Inasec. Her best is certainly good enough to be around the mark so don’t dismiss her.
Race 6. (14:33) Spring Carnival On Sale (Bm72) 1200m
13 Orlabent (Bet Now: $SP.00) deserves a crack in town for Kris Lees. This gelding has simply been too good for them at the Provincials in recent times, winning three on the bounce, with two of those wins coming at Wyong, including last start. IMO, I think he will love getting to a bigger track and is flying, so he has a bit in his corner to measure up in town.
2 Zarastro (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the engine under the hood to take this out. First run for Tony Gollan came several weeks ago at Doomben where he was very brave in defeat I thought. He led and copped heat throughout. That said, he booted clear and looked home, only to be nabbed late by Hatchet, who is flying this time in. If that run hasn’t busted him, he’ll take beating in a race like this.
1 Northern Express (Bet Now: $SP.00) bumps into a couple of likely types but he is a likely type himself. He ran three weeks back at this track/distance where he got back to near last in the run and was a real eye catcher the way he closed off behind the very good animal, Freedom Rally. Tick over trial on Tuesday was very good and with luck from the gate, he’ll be around the mark.
Race 7. (15:12) Ladbrokes Yard Comments-Rs0mw 1400m
11 Brentwood (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top for me. Tony Gollan trained gelding that comes to Eagle Farm off the back of a dominant win at Doomben where he was on speed throughout before being clicked up by Jones and the gelding went through his gears to win well with something in hand. Yet to fire in two runs at Eagle Farm but he is in form and finds a winnable race.
7 Petunia (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Kelly Schweida since racing at this track/distance in a race identical to this. She got dragged back from the wide gate to find a spot and did make up good ground without really threatening behind Rejoiced, beaten just over two lengths. If she is able to settle closer in the run and get a drag into the race, she’ll be effective.
13 Hokahey (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with her best. She ran two weeks back at Doomben in a solid 78 where she got back to near last in the run and did make up ground but was never really a threat behind Release The Beans. This looks more within her reach and with a more positive ride, she has the finale to finish over the top.
Race 8. (15:48) Xxxx Hcp 1400m
5 Better Get Set (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a good record at Eagle Farm and I think 1400m will be okay. She comes through the Ramornie at Grafton when wide no cover on speed and that tough run just told on her late, beaten just over two lengths by The Big Goodbye. Think with an economical run in transit, 1400m is fine and prior efforts were good enough to give this a shake.
9 Major Artie (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a good second up record and has a bit of quality about him. He resumed three weeks ago at Randwick when near the speed and tried hard but being first up, condition gave way behind Brutality. Back to this level, lands on speed, he’ll take running down.
4 Stampe (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs for Greg Cornish since racing at this track/distance on speed throughout and tried his guts out but couldn’t quite finish the race off, ending up being beaten just under five lengths by Blaze A Trail. That was his first run in a few weeks so you’d think he has some room for improvement and his best is clearly good enough.
Race 9. (16:23) Gallopers Sports Club (Bm78) 1600m
A horse that has the form of 57890 next to his name his last five runs yet I think he’s a good thing, and I speak of 9 Philipsburg (Bet Now: $SP.00). NSW trainers should do it more often and send them North and this just looks such good placement. He ran 10/15 in the Midway last Saturday at Randwick but he was very good and clocked good late splits from the back. This is a horrendous 78 and with weight relief, settling closer in the run…how does he not win.
10 Wegobam (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done a good job since joining Jack Bruce and rates as one of the hardest to beat. She ran at this track/distance three weeks ago where she was dragged back to last from the wide gate and conceded those in front a decent head start but I really liked the way she found the line late when second to impressive winner Shopping Esprit. She has that 1600m run under the belt, which should hold her in good stead.
Fitter and up to the mile, 3 Hostage Of War (Bet Now: $SP.00) can be an improver at odds. He was kept safe in betting when resuming in the Goondiwindi Cup but didn’t fire a shot and was a bit on the plain side behind Palate. He has run well in town before and with his racing style, he’ll give a sight at odds and can pinch a first four spot with good upside to come.
