5/3/2025 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Sandown

6 Yes I Believe (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a well bred three year old for Clayton Douglas that is on debut off the back of extensive trial and jumpout work, where he has looked pretty good to the eye. B Shinn booked for the debut signals intent so hopefully the market agrees.

5 Monte Cassino (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Tivaci that resumes after a three run prep where he showed good ability and was knocking on the door to win. Spelled, given a good break and his jumpout work has been strong. Leading contender.

10 Girijaala (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Deep Field filly on debut for Team Hawkes off the back of a couple of Flemington jumpouts where each time she has moved well enough to my eye and has her share of talent. Stable is starting to find form so watch betting.

5 Mr Magnus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks suited back to a fast run 1000m after racing over 1200m at Pakenham last start when off speed but worked home with real purpose when second. He’ll spot them a start but confident he can launch late and finish over the top.

2 Machinist (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Jack Laing trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Aug 10 when racing over 1000m at The Valley, getting back in the run and was never really a winning factor. Given a good break and his jumpout work has been more than encouraging.

I like the look of 6 Back To The Future (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for Nikki Burke. He debuted over 1000m at Pakenham three weeks ago when getting the suck run in transit, finishing best to win, beating a nice horse IMO in El Tercero. Should get a suck run in transit and be strong late.

5 Tonkin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is short enough but she does look to have a bit on these. 2/2 this time in, winning fresh at Mornington before repeating the dose in style at The Valley when producing sustained speed and gave nothing else a look in. Good racing style, looks the leader and I think will be just too fast.

1 Lunar Module (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in a real purple patch at the moment. He has won his last two, the latest coming over 1000m at Sale, the latest seeing him lead throughout and gave nothing else a look in to win quite well. Hard to knock the way he’s racing at present.

3 Cheerstothat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since racing over 1200m here when off speed and kept chasing in a good effort in defeat behind Written Bligh. Back to 1000m with B Shinn on, she’s in the mix.

2 Khor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Looked in need of the run fresh behind Porter before going to the mile two weeks ago at Flemington where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up good ground. Sneaky flying this guy and strikes a winnable race for mine.

8 Girls Girls Girls (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an interesting runner. She comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Jan 4 at Geelong where she was near the speed, doing work, and tried her guts out, but just felt the pinch late. The break between runs I find interesting but she’s a stayer who will keep chipping away.

4 Mozu Marcassin (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is first up here for Matt Cumani, who ended last prep on a high when winning two on the bounce, the latest at Swan Hill. 1800m fresh signals some form of intent and he will be strong at the end.

11 Speak (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a good thing to my eye. Ciaron Maher trained mare that ran over this track/distance last Wednesday when wide and doing work to land on speed and that early burn just told on her late in the piece. I think she’s flying and with a better run in transit, I think she’s the winner.

4 What A Cross (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since a win over 2000m at Wangaratta where he got better as the race went on, proving quite strong to the line. Tick over trial was quite good and Craig Williams takes the ride. Key chance.

2 Star Testymony (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will have no issue with the trip for Symon Wilde. He ran over 2500m at The Valley last start when off speed and worked home well enough without threatening to finish fourth. Has had a tick over jumps trial to sharpen up and is a must for exotics.

4 Le Mans (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is facing her D Day and when it’s D Day you go to one rider…B Shinn. Admittedly he rode her last run last prep but it was an end of prep run. She resumed at Seymour where she was quite keen in the run and just couldn’t finish the race off behind in form mare Paradise City. If she behaves herself, she’ll take beating.

7 Oxford Blue (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. He resumes for Julius Sandhu, having not raced since the Derby where he looked a tired horse, finishing down the track. Fresh at 1500m I like and his jumpout work has been strong enough to say he’ll run well.

5 Austrata (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is sneaky flying for Reece Goodwin and is right in the mix after two runs back from a spell. Each of those have come over 1400m at Pakenham when off speed snd working home with purpose. Hard fit, up to 1500m, claim, he’s a threat.

1 Athanatos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned well and should take beating against these after resuming at Pakenham where he got badly held up at times before eventually getting clear and worked home with real purpose late in the piece behind a king Zephyr, who I think will win the last, so I am trusting that form and up to 1500m, he takes beating.

2 Bancory Bay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after winning here last Wednesday, getting the cheap run in transit near the speed and in a driving go, was able to finish best. Lands in a plum spot once again and should be around the mark.

8 Navy Heart (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness after racing over this trip at The Valley when off speed and worked home well enough in defeat I thought behind Princess Nefertiti. She’s in the mix.

I really like 2 King Zephyr (Bet Now:  $SP.00) as a horse and it’s a case of good luck beating him. He resumed over 1200m at Pakenham where he got back to last, had cover before angling wider and the way he charged clear late…he’s a good horse, and I think in time, is Stakes class. Too good for these I say.

13 Royal Invader (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Plain return at Mornington so Maher sent her to the jumpouts, looked much better, and was game in defeat last start at Pakenham. Hard fit now, her best is good enough to be a threat.

10 Fabrice (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He was unwanted in betting late at Seymour last time and while he didn’t win, I thought he ran a positive race in defeat when third. Hard fit now, he’s capable.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 2 King Zephyr

NEXT BEST: Race Five Number 11 Speak

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 2 Khor
