The Parks track at Morphettville will play host to a nine race program on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (12:52) Leconfield (bm82) 1400m
3 Fulton Street (Bet Now: $4.80) is on the quick back up for David Jolly after racing at Strathalbyn on Sunday where he led, but I thought Sardelic went too slow at the wrong. Should have got rolling instead of waiting and I think that brought the horse undone. Hopefully can lead, roll, and take beating.
4 Night Passage (Bet Now: $4.20) rises a fair bit in grade but gee he was impressive at Murray Bridge three weeks ago. Was back and wide chasing a hot speed but despite that, he was trucking and once Vorster pushed the button, she produced a good turn of foot to win comfortably and produce the win of the meeting. Hard to beat.
5 Poysed To Rein (Bet Now: $4.20) is three weeks between runs for Team Jolly since racing over 1400m at Murray Bridge where she sat off a fast speed and chased strongly late, but was no match for an in form Night Passage, finishing a narrow second with a gap to third. That form does read well for this and gets a suck run from the draw.
Race 2. (13:27) Quayclean (bm60) 1250m
6 Sweet Ginger (Bet Now: $3.80) looks to have her share of ability for Will Clarken. First run for the stable came at Oakbank where she sat on speed and on the turn just looked to be in a little bit of trouble but balanced up in the straight and she powered clear. Looks a nice type and think she can measure up.
5 The Map (Bet Now: $3.90) is a talented filly that resumes with an eye towards the SA Oaks I dare say. Loved the way she found the line to win over 1400m on debut at Balaklava, beating just three rivals, but it was a big gap to third. Has jumped out well leading in and I think she’s forward enough to take this out.
1 Strike Eagle (Bet Now: $4.00) deserves another chance. Team McEvoy gelding that resumed on Rapid Racing Day at Flemington and lost a plate in the run, so perhaps some excuse for a down the track effort behind Treporti. Had jumped out well leading up to that so giving him another chance.
Race 3. (14:02) Fleurieu Milk Company Plate-c1 1000m
6 Prance ‘N’ Dance (Bet Now: $5.00) for me. John Croucher trained filly that resumes, having not raced since her debut over 900m at Murray Bridge back in October when back in small field and working home strongly late, just missing out on the win. Loved the way she went in a trial here last week when leading throughout and just maps to get the A1 run.
All you can do is win and that is what 1 In The Navy (Bet Now: $1.60) did on debut. That came two weeks ago at Gawler where she was on speed throughout and once clicked up by Stubby, she found enough to win comfortably. Bit more depth here, but race experience and gate one helps.
7 Forager (Bet Now: $11.00) can run an improved race. Debuted in the Gawler race mentioned above where she was kept quite safe in betting. Thought she had her chance when finishing third but the run was still a pass mark. Tricky draw to overcome but stable/jockey combo is flying.
Race 4. (14:37) Tab Adelaide Cup-mon 14 (bm68) 1250m
Very tidy 68 race here. The map though just looks ideal for 5 Ocean Reward (Bet Now: $5.00), who has found winning form and can go on with it now. Found the A1 ground at Gawler last time and he made a mess of them under a very much in form Barend Vorster. He remains on and from gate one, he should get the suck run behind the speed and get last look.
1 Lady Dunmore (Bet Now: $3.90) is in really good form at the moment. Phillip Stokes trained mare that found the front at Gawler last time and was there to be run down but she found plenty and was much too good for her rivals. The runner up was beaten last Saturday, but with excuses. but that aside, she has speed, gets in well after the claim and is genuine.
6 Cool Magnum (Bet Now: $6.00) is flying for the Hickmott/Riggs camp and confident he runs well again. He got juice in the track at Gawler, something he likes, and in the run he was the only horse you wanted to be on. He made a mess of them and was impressive. Capable on dry ground as well, hard to beat.
Race 5. (15:17) Grand Synd.- Team Grand (bm76) 1000m
I’ll take a chance with 7 Hidden Legend (Bet Now: $4.00), formerly trained by John Sadler but is now with Will Clarken, and we know the record this stable has with a tried horse. Hasn’t raced since the Winter when down the track at Flemington behind a Stakes class horse, Express Pass. Has trialled and jumped out super in readiness. Hopefully the market likes him.
1 Brimarvi Vehero (Bet Now: $5.50) is three weeks between runs for Sam Burford since resuming on his home track at Murray Bridge. He was wide with cover and worked to the line pretty well without threatening when a close up third to Tequila Time. Good track/distance record and is a two time second up winner.
8 Winning Weather (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Night Of Thunder mare for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp that resumes. Hasn’t raced since September 4 when racing at this track/distance and pulling up lame behind Huffington. Usually races best on the fresh side, so watch the market with her.
Race 6. (15:57) Terry Howe Printing (bm68) 1550m
Firmer footing and a better map are two big ticks for 2 Our Deep Agenda (Bet Now: $10.00), who ran over 1500m at Gawler two weeks back where he tried his guts out, as he always does, but couldn’t finish it off when third to Angaston. Likes the Parks track and dry ground, so don’t be shocked if he bounces back into the winners list.
8 Sky Call (Bet Now: $5.00) looks to be on track for Will Clarken. Just looked in need of the run fresh behind Shellshocked. Then went to Oakbank when wide throughout, with cover, and found the line nicely when third to Zip Akeed. Yet to prove herself at the mile but is racing like she wants it now.
4 Crypto Currency (Bet Now: $6.00) isn’t far off a win for Matty Seyers. He tried his guts out at Gawler last time and looked the winner for the most part but had no answers late for Montign, who won again last Saturday, so the form reads super and I do think he is better on firmer footing.
Race 7. (16:37) Thomas Farms (bm72) 2250m
4 Miss Gobcain (Bet Now: $2.60) for me. Mark Webb trained mare that lapped up the mud to win at Gawler two weeks ago. In the run, she was the only horse you wanted to be on. Was just a matter of Vorster finding clear air and once he found it, the mare did the rest. Wet to dry is a query, but hard to ignore the manner in which she put them away.
9 Oath Of Omerta (Bet Now: $3.60) has upside/progression, but nearly favourite? I can’t quite fathom that. Given it’s such a thin race, I do consider him a threat, but not as nearly favourite in the race. It was just a win on Wednesday, but he was strong to the line, so the rise in trip on the quick back up is a good set up. But, if you like him, I’d wait until the last 10-15 minutes of betting. Surely you’ll get a better price.
3 Stealthy Lucas (Bet Now: $12.00) comes through the Miss Gobcain race from a fortnight back at Gawler. As the rain kept coming, it dampened his winning claims given he is a dry tracker but credit to him, he stuck on pretty well in defeat. Back on firmer footing, he can bounce back.
Race 8. (17:17) Furphy (bm64) 1000m
1 Larkham (Bet Now: $12.00) tends to race well on the fresh side and he loves the Parks track so combine those two, he’s the pony for me here. He resumes, having not raced since November 20 when given absolutely zero, sitting five wide no cover on speed and dropping out. He could easily blow these away if he’s ready to go.
10 Hills (Bet Now: $5.50) is the map horse. Question being what to make of the first up run. She resumed at Flemington and bucked shortly after jumping so took no part. There is that side. The other is that she was smashed in betting and expected to win, so if you trust the market support, you have to respect her here.
11 Magic Phantom (Bet Now: $21.00) can bounce back. Was well backed early when resuming at Gawler but the last 10-15 minutes of betting suggested he would need the run and that is how it panned out when near the speed and tiring late. Better for the run, he can take this out.
Race 9. (17:52) The Junction (bm64) 1400m
7 Ambidazzle (Bet Now: $6.00) has found winning form…can she go on with it now? Punters smashed her at Strathalbyn last start and thanks to a peach from Stubby, she surged hard late to get there in the last stride or two. Has a good track/distance record and now with winning form, I feel she’s hard to beat.
5 Rialtor (Bet Now: $5.00) is a progressive animal for Stuart Padman who commands respect here. Positive steer from Gatt saw him bolt up at Penola last time in a good return to form. Showed metro promise when last in work so no question he can measure up here in a winnable race.
11 Lady Pavli Chenko (Bet Now: $14.00) is two weeks between runs for Shane Oxlade since racing at Gawler when tucked away behind the speed and worked to the line pretty well late when third to Lady Dunmore. Draws to do no work once again and can sneak a first four spot.
