Race 1. (13:18) Brisbane's Summer Of Racing 1200m
Tricky race for the juveniles. Not a betting race, but on top is 2 Ready Mister Music (Bet Now: $14.00). He led throughout to win over 1200m at the Gold Coast last time out, with Allan Chau riding a very positive race on the Better Than Ready colt. Draws wide, but has a nippy one drawn directly to his inside, so should get a good cart over and prove hard to beat.
5 Subterranean (Bet Now: $3.20) is a Matty Dunn trained colt that debuted at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago. I was on him and in the run, especially on the turn, he looked the winner. Just didn’t know how to put them away, wanted to wander about under pressure and I think that cost him the win when a close up third. Looks a nice type and up to 1200m is a big tick.
Interested in 4 Shajaea (Bet Now: $9.50), a Shalaa colt for the Symons/Laxon camp on debut. He had a 1000m trial here on Tuesday when running fourth. When asked to respond, he did, and overall looked to move alright in a trial where the time stacked up really well relative to the morning, which is a good sign for the juveniles. Has gate one, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 2. (13:53) Tab Ctry Stampede Final-rs0mw 1110m
John Manzelmann has done a fab job since taking over the training of 2 Raiden (Bet Now: $6.00) and I think he can take this out. Lumped 63.5kg in the Qualifier two back at Mackay and was very good late behind Moreno before stepping up to 1300m at Mackay and racing well again but clearly no match for So You Dream. Like him back to a sprint race, gets Brad Stewart, with weight relief…points to him running well.
11 Drayman (Bet Now: $13.00) has gate one and that is such an advantage at the 1110m start here. Of his recent TAB runs, he has shown gate speed, so from the inside, you’d like to think he holds a forward spot. Impressive winner three weeks ago at Blackall. Not sure he’s got the class to win, but can fill a first four spot.
1 Hard Stride (Bet Now: $15.00) is ten years of age, but gee he’s a beauty. Earned his way into this field by winning at Gympie, spanking his rivals in a Qualifier by seven lengths. Then went to Roma when off the speed and chasing strongly when third to Another Sin. Wide gate and topweight makes it tricky, but he does have class on his side.
Race 3. (14:28) Gallopers Sports Club (bm85) 1600m
4 Plitvice (Bet Now: $3.60) can win again. Rob Heathcoate trained gelding who had been teasing to win one for some time and it finally came three weeks ago at this track/distance when given a 12/10 by Adin Thompson and was too good for his rivals. Now he has a win on the board, his confidence is up and he could well go on with it.
2 Tokoriki Lad (Bet Now: $2.45) has come back in super order for Tony Gollan. Was a real eye catcher here fresh behind Desert Lord before going to 1400m at the Sunny Coast where he almost turned it up on the line but was able to cling on and win, beating Ligulate, who bolted up last Saturday, so the form reads well. Think 1600m will be okay.
This is one of the easier races that 5 Radipole (Bet Now: $7.50) has contested in some time. Forget he went around two weeks ago behind Matowi at Kembla on Gong Day. Tucked in behind the speed and just couldn’t get involved, finishing last. Better suited in a race like this and while I doubt he wins, can include in wider multiples.
Race 4. (15:03) Tab 2020 Ctry Cups Chall-rs0mw 1600m
3 Paniagua (Bet Now: $2.35) looks the one to beat. Very progressive four year old for the Alex Malliff team. Resumed over 1400m at Cairns in the Qualifier for this race. Heavily backed late and punters got it spot on, with his class coming to the fore late. I will say that his time stacked up poorly with a Class 4 race won on the same day, but he was first up with improvement to come and the rise to the mile looks ideal, plus gets RT steering.
2 Eschiele (Bet Now: $4.20) is a leading chance. Todd Austin trains with gun North Queensland hoop Dan Ballard taking the ride. Won well two back over 1200m at Barcaldine before stepping up to the mile at Roma when given a perfect ride and was there to win. Just couldn’t quite finish it off when second to Scrabble. Think he’s hard to beat here.
11 Galapagos (Bet Now: $23.00) has some solid form around him to be competitive here at a price. Won his way into this race via a win in the Taroom Cup. That was back on September 26. Latest run at Rockhampton, he led and gave a decent sight at a price when third to the in form Srini. Drawn wide, but can kick forward and give a sight.
Race 5. (15:43) Winning Rupert Plate 1200m
5 Shooting For Gold (Bet Now: $2.60) is an O’Dea/Hyland trained three year old that resumes, and is one of many that has an eye towards the Magic Millions. Looked very progressive during the Winter/Spring and I think is a leading contender for the locals when it comes to the Magic Millions Guineas. Trialled up well on Tuesday in very slick time and should have residual fitness.
7 Goldsborough (Bet Now: $4.00) looks suited up to 1200m for Jack Duncan. Impressive first up winner at Doomben, which meant he went around as a heavily backed odds on pop at the Sunny Coast. Thought Cormack rode the perfect race on him and IMO had every chance when third to Fleet Dove. Think 1200m suits, hard fit and in form.
Give him another six months and I reckon 11 Rogue Rocker (Bet Now: $8.00) could be the best horse to come out of this race. Then again, he could well be the best horse in it now. Just don’t know how good he is. Has only had the one start, which was a Ballina maiden a couple of weeks ago, which he won comfortably, and you could just tell he’s better than that grade. Tricky draw, but he looks very exciting.
Race 6. (16:23) Queensland Is Good To Go Open 2000m
3 So You Win (Bet Now: $2.50) is flying for Chris Waller. Impressive winner at this track/distance two back before coming back to the mile at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago and looked the winner when Larry dashed through nearer the inside. Just couldn’t quite peg back Ballistic Boy, who had full momentum outside and was too good. Back to Doomben, back up to 2000m, hard to beat.
Back to 2000m and back on firmer footing I do like for 1 Grey Lion (Bet Now: $8.50). He is several weeks between runs since contesting the City Tatts Cup at Randwick over 2400m where that trip at this level just finds him out, but he was far from disgraced in defeat behind Knights Order. Love him with fresh legs and think he can take this out.
6 A Man To Match (Bet Now: $26.00) looks suited here up in trip. Comes here third up for Tony Gollan after racing two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast where he got back to near last in the run and while he wasn’t too bad in defeat, he didn’t really threaten behind Ballistic Boy. Better suited in this kind of race and a win wouldn’t shock.
Race 7. (17:03) Kidney Health Australia (c6) 1350m
12 Starvirgo (Bet Now: $4.60) is bursting to win a race this time in for the Heathcoate camp. Loomed and looked the winner two weeks ago at the Sunny Coast but 1400m on the big track just found him out late when a close up third to Tokoriki Lad. The runner up, Ligulate, bolted in last Saturday, so the form has already been ticked off and do like Starvirgo back to the Doomben 1350m.
9 Great Keppell (Bet Now: $6.00) is somewhat of an enigma for Team Edmonds but he is racing in pretty good form this time in. Loved the ride from Jim Byrne to win at Ipswich last time. He didn’t give the horse much time to think about, getting inside splits before diving back to the fence and surging hard to nail Shadow Of Time on the peg. Think he can measure up to these.
8 Awesome Pluck (Bet Now: $6.50) can be an improver here at odds. Just looked in need of the run fresh at 1200m before going to 1110m with a break between runs and found the line okay without really threatening. Better suited up to 1350m and he does have class on his side when he brings his best. Gets a decent enough set up here to produce that.
Race 8. (17:43) George Moore Stakes 1200m
Keen on 3 Tambo’s Mate (Bet Now: $14.00) for the Stuart Kendrick team. Lumped the 59kg and topweight when resuming in the Swiss Ace at the Sunny Coast two weeks ago but despite that impost, he charged home late, just missing out on picking up Sugar Boom. He’ll come on from that, plus he gets to 1200m and has a great second up record. Hard to beat.
Conceding that 8 Jonker (Bet Now: $2.45) is hard to beat, but gee he’s short enough. #TeamThey found him first up in the Keith Noud, backing him into $8 from $13+ and he bolted up, breaking the track record in the process. It all depends what pressure The Odyssey wants to apply because that horse is only effective when leading or on the rail, so tactics will be interesting. Jonker can win…but $3.50-$4+ I’d want before betting on him.
1 Deep Image (Bet Now: $8.50) looks to be in for a good prep based off the resumption in the Keith Noud. He was excellent from the wide gate, doing work in a fast run race, and fighting on strongly to run second to Jonker. He does have a good second up record, but will that leave him a touch flat for a third up bounce back? Market will be a good guide.
Race 9. (18:18) Mode Plate 1200m
5 Fleet Dove (Bet Now: $14.00) did the right thing by us when winning first up two weeks ago and not dropping off her. All Jim Byrne had to do at the Sunny Coast was hold a forward spot from the inside gate and once he did, it was pretty much race over and it was quite amazing she ended up starting $12 given the form around her. Fitter, eats up 1200m…see no reason to drop off.
Was a lovely return by 1 Gotta Kiss (Bet Now: $9.00) behind Fleet Dove at the Sunny Coast, though I will say she was ridden pretty much like it was a 1000m barrier trial. Ridden negatively with the big weight and wasn’t really asked for too much of an effort, and as such as was an eye catcher late. Hard to beat here back to Set Weights.
Not sure that 11 One Shy Ruby (Bet Now: $46.00) wins but can certainly entertain for multiples. Comes through the Fleet Dove race at the Sunny Coast when near the speed throughout and battled away well without really threatening to win. Lone 1200m run saw her place in the Dalrello during the Winter Carnival, so she does have the runs on the board to be competitive.
