13 Oochie Magucchee (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the one I want to lean towards. Team Jolly trained mare that debuted two weeks ago on the Parks track where she looked the winner 400m out but she couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch late when fourth to Overstated. Better for the run and did trial up super prior so he deserves another chance.

7 Albis (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but is knocking on the door, as seen a fortnight back when hailed as the winner on the Parks track in a maiden but was nabbed near the peg by Overstated. Hard fit, has versatility re racing pattern and should be strong at the end.

2 Billy Bones (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of I Am Invincible on debut for the Clarken/O’Shea stable. This guy trialled at Strathalbyn last week and won the trial, seemingly moving well enough in a decent piece of work. Bred to be a good one so I say watch the market and see what it does.

2 Athanatos (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but that said, he is racing really well and brings strong enough Victorian form. He ran over 1400m at Flemington last time and loomed to win when presented but just found one better in Swiftfalcon. Up in trip is fine and he is one of the hardest to beat I say.

1 Goldrush Guru (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves another chance. He was 1250m to 1550m two weeks ago on the Parks track and om face value, he was plain. I just think he lacked a turn of foot and had no answers late for the finale of Talisay. I think with that 1550m run under the belt, that holds him in good stead for this. Just the jockey booking is a big concern for a big horse.

4 Talisay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a leading contender I say. This filly was a dominant winner a fortnight back on the Parks track, giving them a start and a beating, and produced a very strong finale, sustained finale, to win impressively. She can go on with it for sure.

5 Zarkana (Bet Now:  $SP.00) doesn’t have the best of winning strike rates, she doesn’t have the best of racing patterns, but I am convinced that she is flying and if within range, I think she’ll take a power of beating. She ran over 1500m three weeks ago here where she just got too far back in the run but her finale was solid enough in defeat behind Longer Route. Up to the mile I like and the depth here is nowhere near as deep.

7 Peta’s Heart (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for the Clarken/O’Shea camp and commands respect. Both career runs have come at Balaklava, catching the eye on debut over 1400m before going to the mile where she gave them a start and a beating, and was impressive. Confident she can measure up.

1 Rabtat (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it for Michael Hickmott. He was good in defeat fresh at Strathalbyn before going to Murray Bridge where he got back but unwound with a very strong finale to finish best and was impressive in winning. Improvement to come, he rates highly as a winning chance.

3 Longer Route (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Mick Huxtable and should take beating here. He has won two on the bounce, the latest being two weeks ago over 1500m here where he was near the speed throughout and trucking before being clicked up and he got better as the race went on, having a bit in hand to win. Hard to beat once again.

1 Apache Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has to be forgiven for last start. They rode him too warm I thought, leading Longer Route, and it cost him as he tired and felt the pinch the last 400m, finishing down the track behind Longer Route. I think with a more conservative steer, I think he’ll be far more effective and can take this out.

7 Stratum Pride (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday on the Parks track and gee she should have won but was given a poor ride I thought by Livesay and only got out very late in the piece. If the breaks go her way, she can win.

2 Struck By (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket for me in what looks an open contest. This guy hasn’t raced since Aug 31 when attempting to lead throughout at a pretty solid clip and tried hard but couldn’t quite sustain the run and felt the pinch late in the piece behind Jack The Lad. I think if he can harness his energy a bit better, he’s going to prove hard to hold out.

1 Keep Reading (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has a good track/distance record and brings the A1 form given he ran at The Valley last time and didn’t disgrace himself in defeat behind Mornington Glory, who is now a Group l winner, so that form is clearly A1 for this and with fresh legs, returning home, he commands respect.

3 Grinzinger Prince (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Cody Reardon trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since The Goodwood when outclassed, finishing down the track behind Benedetta. He is a horse who can sprint well on the fresh side and he does save his best for the course proper so keen to see how he goes.

1 Chakado (Bet Now:  $SP.00) gets the nod for me. Philip Stokes trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since March 20 at Sandown when off the speed and kept finding without being a winning threat in a solid enough effort behind Some People Callme. Trial win last week was strong and strikes a winnable race for mine.

8 Never Surrender (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will put himself near the speed and look to give his all, which was the case a fortnight back on the Parks track and was as game as ever but just couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed late by the very much in form Nurys. Think with a soft run, a patient steer, he’s quite dangerous.

4 Artful Tawny (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Team Koch trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since the Adelaide Carnival when down the track but it was an end of prep run in the Adelaide Guineas. He resumes and has trialled up well enough for the return I thought, so I say watch the market and see what it does.

7 Cararada (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned in pretty good order and should appreciate a rise to 1200m. She resumed over 1050m here two weeks ago where she got back in the run and was held up at times but got clear and was good late behind Andrew’s Memory when a close up fifth. Fitter and up in trip, she takes beating I say.

2 Our Shining Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with relatively fresh legs for Team Jolly, having not raced since Aug 21 at Balaklava when launching late from off the speed to share the spoils in a strong effort. She has run well at metro level before and this isn’t a deep contest.

1 In The Darkness (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improving type for Jess Eaton. Resumed three weeks back on the course proper where she looked in need of the run and that’s how it panned out when down the track behind Deepfloat Diva. Tick over trial at Strathalbyn was good and with upside, is one of the knockout hopes.

18 Misludi (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Phillip Stokes. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where she got back to near last in the run but worked home with purpose late, just missing out on the win when second to Andrew’s Memory. If she’s within range, she has the finale to be quite dangerous.

14 Hooked On Wealth (Bet Now:  $SP.00) commands respect for Francis/Kent. He is three weeks between runs after racing behind Deepfloat Diva when off the speed and kept chasing in a good effort when fourth. The trial win last week at Strathalbyn was sharp and his best is more than good enough.

4 Bristler (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He ran behind Deepfloat Diva three weeks back over 1100m here when doing a bit too much work on speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite sustain the run when fifth. Hard fit, good racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.

5 Dual Fuel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) each way for me in the get out. Peter Hardacre trained mare that bombed the start when resuming three weeks ago and while she was never a winning threat, she did make up good ground and was quite solid in defeat I thought. Like her up in trip, senior rider on, she’ll be strong late, good upside…really keen each way.

10 On The Scent (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing really well at the moment and commands respect. He ran a fortnight back on the Parks track when looming to win when presented and for a few strides, did look the winner but couldn’t quite see it through when second to Eishaa. Maps ideally, hard fit and in form. Appeals.

8 Crown Mint (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Richards/Moyle trained gelding that comes here after contesting the Mindarie-Halidon Cup where he got back in the run and made up some headway without threatening. He’ll appreciate a bigger track and should be strong at the end.

NEXT BEST: Race Two Number 2 Athanatos

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 5 Dual Fuel
