31/12/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville

Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; Out three metres for the remainder.

I am keen on 1 Larimer Street (Bet Now:  $SP.00) to resume a winner for David Jolly. He is first up, having not raced since May 7 at Caulfield when back and making up solid headway behind Ranting. You go through his form last prep, gee it reads well for a race like this, and he looked to jog behind the front few in a recent Strathalbyn jumpout. Market will be interesting but to my eye, he has a bit on these.

4 Aston Rapova (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for the Francis/Kent camp and commands respect. He is 2/2 this time in, the latest win coming over 1100m here back in late November where he got a ripping ride from the gate and he spanked his rivals. Good test here against this lot but he does have some level of race fitness on his side and will be strong late. He can definitely take this out.

3 Alleboom (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting towards D-Day and he could be in the bin if he does no good here. Four weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track where he was run off his legs and just couldn’t get involved when down the track behind speed demon Philonize. The saving grace is getting away from the Parks and getting to the bigger track. He can run a much improved race if he brings anywhere near his best.

Hard to get away from 5 Rebel Lee (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Macdonald/Gluyas trained mare who was a dominant winner two weeks ago at Gawler where Stubby put her into the dream spot and really, it was just a matter of pushing the button and once that eventuated, away she went and she was impressive to the line. She’s in a purple patch, form around her reads well, she’s clearly the one to beat.

4 Crypto Currency (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves another chance. He ran behind Rebel Lee at Gawler and I am forgiving of the run because he was ridden with a sit in the second half of the field, failing to come on behind the dominant winner. I think he is a much better horse when ridden positively so if that can eventuate here, I think he’ll run a much improved race.

3 Does It (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has more upside than most and gets to a suitable trip. Ran two weeks back at Gawler over 1500m, a trip short of his best, back on an up/in pattern, he was no chance and ran accordingly behind Heir Of Tavistock. Gets a much better set up this time around and his form from last prep is certainly good enough to be dangerous against this lot.

6 Dunmaghlas (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can make a winning debut here. He is a son of Highland Reel that has start one and has had a very good grounding for the debut, with two jumpouts and two trials this time in to get ready, and each time he has seemingly moved well. Bred to be much better suited over further but I’ve noticed lately these Highland Reel gallopers are dashing with purpose over sprint trips. Happy to be in her corner.

9 Oracle Son (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Divine Prophet gelding that resumes for Phillip Stokes. He had a two run prep in the Autumn to start his career and for the most part was solid enough in strong 2YO races. Been given a good break and has looked to trial up quite nicely for his return. Lobs into a lovely spot from the gate and commands respect.

10 Zac’s Back (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1100m and is in with a sneaky chance. He ran over 1300m last time out at Bordertown where he was near the speed throughout and did work to get there. Tried hard but that early burn just told late and felt the pinch when third. Like him back in trip and with his racing style, he is suited in a race that has horses with limited ability. Definite winning chance.

2 Iknowhatyouredoing (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the improve and rates as one of the hardest to beat. Was working up to a maiden win and it came at this track/distance last time where he produced a strong sustained finale from near last to win nicely, clocking some of the better late splits of the meeting. He is open to improvement and provided this isn’t a sit/sprint, I think he’ll be the one finishing best.

1 Artrese (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the main threat. He was a strong maiden winner two back at Stawell before going to Werribee where he had the suck run behind the speed and was looking to get clear, getting badly held up at a crucial stage before eventually getting clear and surging hard late to just miss. This looks a thin metro race, stable goes very well when coming to SA and Vorster steers.

4 Charlesfort (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but is racing in solid enough form. He ran in a maiden at this track/distance just over two weeks back where he had a sweet run in transit behind the speed and seemingly had his chance when third to Iknowhatyouredoing, beaten over three lengths. He was 1200m to 1600m so he has a better set up this time around to run an improved race.

5 Hongbao (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have a bit on these and third up from a spell, he should just about be at peak fitness. He ran over this track/distance just over two weeks ago where he was wide with cover before Vorster eased him wider into clear air, he went through his gears and was much too good for them. He’s got room for improvement and the depth here is very thin. Like him a lot.

6 Zarace (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should be given some level of respect. He did work from a tricky gate at Gawler two weeks back and that early burn just told late, but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Viduka, beaten a couple of lengths back. Think he races best when he is ridden positively so hoping for an aggressive steer and if that eventuates, he can run a much improved race.

4 Rialtor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Stuart Padman trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since September 10 when leading and tiring badly in the straight when down the track behind Cool Magnum. Murray Bridge jumpout was a pretty good piece of work, he can pull out a run fresh and he is a dry track horse, so with conditions to suit, I think he can run a positive race fresh.

I want to give 8 Fox Gem (Bet Now:  $SP.00) another chance. He ran here on Boxing Day and to the eye, the run was plain, but the way the track was playing, up/in, he was never really going to be a factor so forget he went around behind The Red Kite. Solid in defeat behind Residue the start prior, he’s been up a while but is holding his form really well and with a more genuine tempo, he can win for sure.

2 Platform (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a handy galloper for Travis Doudle that resumes. He hasn’t raced since July 2 at Murray Bridge where he was just off the slow speed and tried to wind up and get the win but had to settle for a third to Prince Of Helena, who had the soft run on speed and was too good. 1500m is on the short side for him but has trialled up well and ability wise, he’s the best horse in the race.

4 Tongsai Boss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for John Hyam after racing over 1400m last Saturday at Murray Bridge where he was near the speed throughout and seemed to have his chance, tiring late behind Fleurieu Flipper. I reckon with a more patient steer, he can be more effective, and prior efforts last prep suggested he was working up to a forward showing.

3 Lacrima (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Michael Hickmott and confident she can get the job done. On the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Murray Bridge where she was very good against the race shape when a closing fourth to Fleurieu Flipper, clocking some of the better late splits of the meeting. That was her second run at 1400m for the prep and now getting a rise in trip, she appeals big time.

5 Wheels (Bet Now:  $SP.00) might want one more, but I think the Macdonald/Gluyas camp will have fun with him. First run for the stable came over 1200m at Morphettville a few weeks back where he was back near last in the run and made up good ground late in the piece behind Test The Law. Might want one more and a further rise in trip, but that first up run was too good to ignore. Has to be respected.

2 Dixie Whistler (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a staying mare for the Richards/Moyle stable that resumes. Her latest run came on October 22 on this track behind Oath Of Omerta, looking like a tired horse. Not the biggest of spells, so has residual fitness and first up at 1500m suggests there is enough in the tank to run well fresh, so I’d watch the market with her.

5 Disagreeable Miss (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is working up to a win. Given the track pattern at Gawler, her effort to get as close as she did to Heir Of Tavistock was enormous, closing off with real purpose and just missing out on the win, finishing a narrow third. Love the rise in trip for her, she can settle closer in the run and love the booking of Campbell Rawiller, not only with the claim, but because he is a very strong rider. Keen on her prospects.

8 Muffla (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should prove hard to beat for Team Blanch. He was working up to a win and that came at the Twilight meeting here just over two weeks back when given a peach by Vorster and in a driving go, finished best to win and win well. The way he has been finding the line, 1800m should be fine and despite the class/depth rise, he rates as one of the main contenders.

7 Ammo Amor (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to beat. Got the pattern in his corner two weeks ago at Gawler but even allowing for that, I did like the ticker he showed in the straight because he was there to be run down but found when required to fend them off and win. Off last run, extra 100m to 1800m should be fine and with his racing style, he’ll only run well.

7 Four Winds (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks to have returned in really good order and should take beating here. On speed fresh at Murray Bridge but was pipped late before going here on the Twilight meeting where they rode her with a sit and the end result was a spank job win, albeit in a moderate race. More depth here, but is hard fit now and I think can lob into a lovely spot from the gate.

11 Parisienne Monde (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs and is dangerous. Hasn’t raced since November 5 when seemingly getting every chance here from behind the speed when third to Texan Windstorm. I do think she’s much better suited at 1200m and is a good mare on the fresh side and the way the race has fallen after scratchings, she’s the main threat.

1 Love Magic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a knockout hope. Ten years of age but still maintains a healthy zest for racing. He resumed three weeks back at this track/distance where he got shuffled back despite drawing a soft gate and worked home okay without really threatening behind Test The Law. Reckon he’d love a rise in trip but a truly run 1200m can see him sit off the pace and be strong late.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 6 Dunmaghlas

LONG SHOT: Race Six Number 8 Fox Gem
