Race 1. (13:03) Seasons Greetings Brc (Bm78) 1050m
I’ll start this preview by saying that these meeting tips may change with a stack of dual acceptors. 6 Hold On Honey (Bet Now: $SP.00) is absolutely flying for the O’Dea/Hoysted camp. 3/3 this time in, the latest win coming at this track/distance where he carved over from the wide gate, landed on speed comfortably and was arrogant the way he put them away, running good time in the process. Good test here against some likely types but really, he has to be the one to beat given the way he’s going.
7 Liza With A Zee (Bet Now: $SP.00) races best fresh and back to 1050m, I think she commands some level of respect. Last run came over 1100m at the Gold Coast on November 26 when leading and giving a solid kick but just felt the pinch late behind Miss Hipstar. Like her back to 1050m at Doomben, likely lands on speed and with the claim, she’s a threat if the fav is off its game.
3 Grey Defence (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in with a sneaky chance at a big price if the rain arrives later in the week and on race day. Track was too firm at Eagle Farm last time and just felt the pinch late behind Palladas. Much better suited at Doomben IMO, and with rain forecast, I think he’s in with a shout at a massive price, so keep tabs on the weather and whether the rain arrives.
Race 2. (13:38) Zousain First Yearlings Hcp 1200m
3 Sunsource (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one I am keen on at odds for the Magic Millions and keen to see how he goes here. He debuted in the Ballarat Magic Millions and produced a brilliant finale from near last to win and clocked some of the better late splits of the meeting. Malaboom franked the form in the Calaway Gal so it all points to this guy being smart and confident he can stamp himself a Magic Millions horse.
2 Sovereign Fund (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the only threat. Team Snowden trained colt that was backed with confidence when debuting in the Wyong Magic Millions and gee he moved like a good horse on the tight track, making an absolute mess of them in such an impressive first up win. Loses J Mac but gets J Mac and with the small field, I think he has the change up speed to be effective.
1 Mishani Renegade (Bet Now: $SP.00) probably isn’t the best of the local juveniles, but all you can do is win and that is what he has done in three career outings. Each win hasn’t been dynamic, but it’s been job done and he’s been a professional. All three wins have come at 1000m. First up at 1200m tells me he’s ready to go with the Magic Millions in mind and does command respect.
Race 3. (14:13) Ladbrokes Mates Mode (Bm72) 1600m
9 Roller Coaster (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Chris Waller and is hard to beat here I’d suggest. Class came to the fore for him when winning two back at the Gold Coast before going to Eagle Farm two weeks ago and kept finding the line in a good effort behind Alburq, who has found a new lease of life since coming to Brisbane. He does seem a big track horse, but hard to knock the way he’s going.
12 Teranga (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a really good prep. O’Dea/Hoysted trained mare that resumed over 1350m and gee she was trucking in the run. But, she was forced wide on the turn to make her run and surged hard late, only getting nabbed on the peg by Petunia, who had the soft run and finished best. Fitter, getting to a more suitable trip, enormous upside, she’ll take beating.
4 Valley Of Dreams (Bet Now: $SP.00) lacks the quality of some of these but is hard fit and in form, her last start being a solid on speed win at Ipswich where she was there to be run down but found under pressure to fend them off and win, narrowly. Gets in well enough after the claim, should land near the front and run well. Not sure she wins, but a first four threat.
Race 4. (14:50) Channel 7 (Bm78) 1350m
13 Ayahuasca (Bet Now: $SP.00) is another great example of Tony Gollan and cast off mares. First run for the stable came here at the midweeks where she was smashed in betting and #They knew what was doing because she made a mess of them in an impressive first up win, and that was a big tick given she is better suited over further, which is what she gets here. Good upside, she’ll take beating.
Back in trip I do like for 2 Fleetwood Maca (Bet Now: $SP.00). Three weeks between runs since racing over the mile at Eagle Farm where she was on speed throughout and tried her guts out but just couldn’t quite see out the mile when fourth to Irish Playboy. She has won at the mile previously but I do feel she is better suited slightly back in trip. She’ll be around the mark I’m sure.
Fitter and up to 1350m are two big ticks for 7 Renouf (Bet Now: $SP.00). She resumed over 1200m at Eagle Farm two weeks back and looked like she was going to burst through and threaten but being first up, condition just gave way when fourth to a quality mare, Chatty Lady. I doubt she can beat Ayahuasca, but can definitely fill a first four spot.
Race 5. (15:32) Shoot Out 2020m
10 Reflect The Stars (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win. She tried her guts out last time out at the midweeks here and against the race shape/tempo, she worked to the line strongly late in the piece when a narrow second to Savvy Oak in a ripping effort. She will love a truly run 2000m contest and this looks to be quite a winnable contest with not much depth overall.
Back up to 2000m can see 7 Street Dancer (Bet Now: $SP.00) bounce back. Track/distance winner two back before going back to 1800m at Eagle Farm and he just found them a tad sharp behind Gave Us Up, but was beaten under a length in a good effort. Back to the Doomben 2000m, he should prove hard to beat in what looks a winnable race if he holds his form.
8 Tears Of Love (Bet Now: $SP.00) will land on the bunny and run a positive race. Only pipped late by Street Dancer two back at this track/distance before going to the Eagle Farm 1800m where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick but was run down late in the piece, beaten a couple of lengths. Last bit will test but his racing style is suited to the Doomben 2000m.
Race 6. (16:12) Vo Rogue Plate 1350m
7 Ekaterina (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks hard to beat here for Rob Heathcoate. She was very good from the back two back in the Mode Plate here behind Stroll before going to Eagle Farm last Wednesday where she looked a moral on paper and despite a few nervous moments on the turn, class came to the fore and she was much too good. Off that, plus the Mode Plate effort, she’ll measure up here for sure.
1 Better Rain (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very genuine animal for Tom Smith that lacks the class of some of these, but will land on the bunny and give a sight. He resumed over 1200m at Mackay where he attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick but condition just gave way and was run down late by Betterdeel. Fitter, up in trip, he’ll be on speed and looking the winner at a price.
9 Honkytonk Diva (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a filly with talent for Kelly Schweida. Had to go to the Gold Coast for the kill last time and that it was, ridden like she was a moral under Fradd and she duly saluted in what was a fast run 1200m contest, which is a good grounding for the 1350m here and has run well in town. Wouldn’t be shocked at all if she measured up.
Race 7. (16:52) The Buffering 1350m
8 Brigantine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is getting towards D-Day but gee he looks hard to beat in a race like this. He ran in the Razor Sharp at Randwick and to the eye, had every chance on speed behind Sky Command, but I do think he is better suited with a bunny to chase and a more genuine tempo, as well as a rise in trip. if he brings his best, he’ll take beating once again.
4 Ucalledit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is putting his hand up to be a Stradbroke horse for 2023. I still think he needs to prove himself in a fast run race because whilst he has been dominant, he has been in sit/sprints, where his change up speed has been something else, the latest win being two weeks ago in the Lough Neagh. If this becomes another sit/sprint, he wins again. Interesting to see how he goes if it is truly run.
10 Rubamos (Bet Now: $SP.00) is working up to another win. He ran two weeks ago in the Lough Neagh and found the line well but was clearly no match for Ucalledit, who produced electric change up speed and was dominant in the run to the line. Think he will be suited in a more truly run 1350m contest and while he lacks the class somewhat, he’s hard fit and in form. He can definitely take this out.
Race 8. (17:32) Nudgee Stakes 1200m
I want to give 4 Najmaty (Bet Now: $SP.00) another chance. She was very good against the pattern fresh at Rosehill in the Starlight before going to the Razor Sharp at Randwick and didn’t fire a shot, finishing last behind Sky Command in what was essentially a barrier trial. Her best efforts have come in Queensland so returning to the sunshine state, she can run a much improved race and win this.
1 Kiku (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality mare for Chris Waller that resumes. This stable love to target the Magic Millions and they have this mare resuming, having not raced since the Empire Rose when producing an end of prep run behind Icebath. She is a mare who is dynamic when produced fresh and given her form lines, gee she looks to have a bit on these re class, provided she’s ready to go.
9 Miss Hipstar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with her best. Dynamic first up winner at the Gold Coast before going to Eagle Farm where they rode her positively from the wide gate and she tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when a narrow fourth to Glorious Ruby. The end of 1200m is the slight query with her but I reckon with a more patient steer, I think the six furlongs will be okay.
Race 9. (18:12) Magic Millions Hcp (C6) 1200m
Fitter and up to 1200m are two big ticks for 4 The Big Goodbye (Bet Now: $SP.00). Market said he would need the run when resuming two weeks ago over 1000m at Eagle Farm where he just found the five furlongs a tad sharp but was solid enough in defeat behind Glorious Ruby, beaten 1.37L. Love him up to 1200m, good second up record and seems to be a better horse at Doomben than Eagle Farm.
2 Direct (Bet Now: $SP.00) has really turned the corner since being gelded. His latest run came on Ballarat Cup Day in the 3&4YO Magic Millions where he defied a notable betting drift and bolted up on what was a worsening track. He does seem most effective on a firm deck and the query here is a strong six furlongs, but gee it’s hard to knock the way he’s going at the moment.
15 Glitter Strip (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Street Boss for Tony Gollan that resumes. She hasn’t raced since July 23 here when finding a bottomless deck and she really struggled to pick her feet up in the conditions behind Joviality. She doesn’t mind give in the track but not bottomless. She’s a mare who can sprint well fresh and has trialled nicely leading in, so watch the market.
