Race 1. (12:20) A Caulfield Kind Of Summer (Bm100) 2000m
6 Jenni’s Meadow (Bet Now: $SP.00) is bursting to win for Mark Walker. She ran second two weeks ago at Flemington when closing with real purpose from off speed but just couldn’t quite get there when second to Saint George. Gets a great chance to break her run of outs.
7 Tarvue (Bet Now: $SP.00) was massive in defeat two weeks ago at Flemington. She was 1800m to 2500m in seven days and looked all over the winner when booting clear but just felt the pinch late and was nabbed by Dictionary. She has that 2500m run under the belt and clearly appeals.
3 Magnaspin (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. He ran a fortnight back at Flemington over this trip, attempting to lead throughout and gave a good sight but felt the pinch late. He has that 2000m run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead.
Race 2. (12:50) John Moule (Bm70) 1000m
10 Midnight Charm (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been given a mini freshen up since a down the track effort on the home deck at Mornington, copping too much heat on speed and tired late behind La Astro Cat, a sharp winner last Saturday here, so the form reads well and the jumpout work since the last run has been sharp. Good each way gamble.
7 Runlikeanencryption (Bet Now: $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing down the straight at Flemington when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Gallant Son. If within range, she has the finale to launch late.
2 Castellar (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1000m at Flemington a few weeks back. He was near the front of the pack and did try hard but first up, he just couldn’t quite get there but was still game in defeat when third to Gallant Son. Better for the run, he appeals as a key chance.
Race 3. (13:25) Ray Benson Memorial (Bm70) 1400m
5 Hedonist (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes to town after a spank job win at Warrnambool, leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win and win quite impressively. Looks to land on speed once again and will give a stack of cheek.
12 Two Wolves (Bet Now: $SP.00) does seem quite progressive for Team Freedman. Comes to Saturday grade after a midweek win at Sandown, giving them a start and a beating in a very impressive effort. Good test here but think he can measure up.
Fitter and up to 1400m are two big ticks for 3 Inexorable (Bet Now: $SP.00). He resumed three weeks back over 1200m down the straight. He just found them a bit sharp but he kept on and was a definite pass mark. 1400m, bending track, knockout hope.
Race 4. (14:00) Ule Hoof Oil (Bm84) 2400m
7 Stylish Secret (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me. Was keen on his chances last Saturday over 2000m here but was very one paced when asked for the big effort and just ground to the line when third. Like him up to 2400m, hard fit and is in well after the claim.
6 Sun Gift (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing really well at present for Danny O’Brien and is one of the hardest to beat after two wins on the bounce, firstly at Cranbourne before a strong on speed win a few weeks back at Flemington, proving quite strong to the line in winning. Good racing style and hard to knock the way she’s going.
4 Dictionary (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a stayer and has run well at Caulfield previously. His staying prowess came to the fore two weeks back at Flemington, driving hard late to pick up Tarvue. 2400m here is fine, he’s in form, commands respect.
Race 5. (14:35) Robert Hunter (Bm70) 1800m
10 Zuppa Inglese (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps up to 1800m after a maiden win last start over 1400m at Werribee. She looked the winner a long way out. Just a matter of getting clear air and once that eventuated, away she went and was dominant. Confident she can measure up.
5 Komito (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a really nice three year old on the up for Ciaron Maher. Caught the eye on debut at Horsham before going to Werribee where he didn’t beat much but he was quite arrogant how strong he was to/through the line. Love him up to 1800m, he’s the one to beat.
7 Stole Him (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1800m after racing over 2000m two weeks back at Flemington. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a decent sight from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Our Chief. Good racing style, he’s a sneaky chance at odds.
Race 6. (15:10) Chairman's Stakes (G3) 1000m
1 Big Sky (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a talented colt for Price/Kent. He was a sharp debut winner at Flemington two weeks ago, sitting on speed and was absolutely trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win, by a space. Nothing flash on the clock but the way he did it was impressive and for mine is top seed here.
7 Jadzia (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a sharp filly for Grahame Begg and keen to see how she goes at start one. Won a trial at Sandown, moving very well late when clicked up and had plenty in the tank. She could easily make a Blue Diamond statement with a win here.
8 La Gitana (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beautifully bred filly for Team Hayes who has jumped out well and stable is flying with their juveniles, and usually fire this time of year. Definite market watch, especially if this track is playing up/in.
Race 7. (15:45) Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (G3) 1200m
Going to be on 1 Wrote To Arataki (Bet Now: $SP.00) each way. Just a two run Spring prep, catching the eye first up here behind Magic Time before a total forgive in the Let’s Elope when wide no cover. Looks to have jumped out really well, seemingly well weighted and has class.
4 Aviatress (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Standish from three weeks ago when off speed and was trucking. Once she clicked up and was there to win, she just whacked and couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Disneck. Back to Mares grade, she appeals.
5 Samangu (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes to a bending track and hard fit, is dangerous for sure. She ran down the straight in the Standish three weeks ago when back near last in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she kept chasing and was quite good in defeat. Fitter, can settle closer, dangerous.
Race 8. (16:25) Remembering Noel Cooper (Bm84) 1100m
3 Gallant Son (Bet Now: $SP.00) seems the straight bat play. Three weeks between runs since a first up win at Flemington, leading throughout and credt to him, he found under pressure to fend them off and score. Looks the leader, weight relief, takes running down.
6 Sweethearted (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks suited back to 1100m. He ran down the straight a fortnight back at Flemington over 1200m and worked home well enough but was never really threatening behind Immortal Star. Back to 1100m and a bending track, he’s dangerous.
7 Capper Thirtynine (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Nick Ryan trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Nov 9 when seemingly having his chance in the Ararat Bowl. Looks to have jumped out well and will be strong late, so watch the market.
Race 9. (17:05) Mal Seccull (Bm78) 1800m
2 Brung King (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a purple patch and rates highly after a couple of wins over 1700m at Warrnambool, the latest being three weeks ago, knuckling down with purpose late to score. Maps ideally, 1800m no issue, rates highly.
Thought there was a bit to like about the first up win of 7 Midnite Storm (Bet Now: $SP.00) three weeks ago at Flemington, knuckling down strongly late from off speed to finish best. If there is no second up syndrome, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
3 New York Hurricane (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Camperdown Cup from two weeks back. He got off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Mister Me. Maps to settle much closer and be effective late, so I am not dismissing.
Race 10. (17:40) Sportsbet Fixed Odds Exotics (Bm84) 1400m
6 Zouper Fund (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1100m after racing over 1200m several weeks ago at Cranbourne. He got into a reasonable spot in transit and did try hard but lacked the killer blow behind surprise winner Meridius. I think he’ll get back, with cover and hopefully launch over the top.
16 Stealth Of Night (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a tough campaigner for Team Hayes that is sky high in confidence after wins at Sandown, the latest on Boxing Day where she was there to be beaten but she found under pressure to fend them off and score. Good test here but think she can measure up.
15 Codigo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous for Moody/Coleman. He is four weeks between runs since racing at Geelong when attempting to lead throughout and tried hard but had to settle for a second to Harry’s Yacht. Good racing style, he’ll give a sight.
