Race 1. (14:19) Mrs Mac's Handicap (72+) 1400m
1 Aztec Ruler (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another chance. Like most, I was quite keen on him when he ran last Saturday in the Tabtouch Stakes but he was back off the speed in what was pretty much a barrier trial, with the tempo set by the eventual winner Ginger Baker. Aztec Ruler tried to win but given the race shape, he was no chance. Back to 1400m, more genuine tempo, he should take care of these.
4 Pompey (Bet Now: $SP.00) has come back a different/better horse for Team Williams. Strong winner a fortnight back at this track/distance when just off the speed but was trucking in the run. Pike got him clear air at the top of the straight, knuckled down strongly and was too good in winning. Good test here against some good types, but I think he is one himself.
Fitter and up to the mile are two big ticks for 5 Knot Secret (Bet Now: $SP.00), who resumed over 1400m two weeks back where he was met with good market support and battled away well enough after getting a suck run in behind when fourth to Magnificent Andy. Great second up record and maps ideally again so don’t dismiss him.
Race 2. (14:54) Tabtouch Handicap (0MWLY) 1000m
2 On The Full (Bet Now: $SP.00) tends to race best on the fresh side and back on firmer footing, he’ll take running down. He has been kept on ice, having not raced since August 5 here when tardy to begin with and that sealed his fate, failing to get involved behind Storm Commander. Drawn out but should press forward and he does race best with fresh legs. Happy to be in his corner.
3 Ruler Rocket (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. He comes back to 1000m after racing over 1200m two weeks ago here when near the speed and was there to win but couldn’t quite get the win when third to a nice horse, Patron Of Kings. Hard fit and back in trip, kind map, it all points to him.
8 Work Home Front (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Donna Riordan trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since June 8 at Pinjarra when struggling on the heavy ground and perhaps was at the end of her prep behind The Coolakin King. She is a mare who can sprint well fresh and I thought her recent trial was more than encouraging.
Race 3. (15:33) Ascot Opening Day Oct 14 Plate 1000m
Despite a tricky gate, I think class alone gets 1 Ripcord (Bet Now: $SP.00) home. Luke Fernie trained three year old that resumes, having not raced since the Karrakatta when third to Super Smink after getting off the speed, a big effort at start two. Been given a decent break, Pike is on and despite no trials, the jockey booking is telling.
7 Generosity (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a coming winner. That win could easily come here. Simon Miller trains this filly, who hasn’t raced since August 5 here when chasing from a fair way out and stuck on well enough in defeat behind Ginnivan. The break between runs I find interesting but respecting the stable and she looks like she has above average talent.
8 Gold Vancouver (Bet Now: $SP.00) will land near the sped and give a bold sight. This filly debuted last Wednesday at this track/distance where she was on speed throughout and gave a decent sight but couldn’t quite get the win when second to All Play. Better for the run under the belt, she has the right racing style to give herself every chance.
Race 4. (16:13) Amelia Park Plate 1400m
6 Pleasure Cruise (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks like he has got a decent engine under the hood. He debuted last Wednesday over 1200m here where he got into a suck spot behind the speed before angling into clear air and gee he let down like a nice horse to win well, running very fast time relative to the day. Destined for better races than this and up to 1400m, I am keen on his prospects.
4 Be Awesome (Bet Now: $SP.00) is heading in the right direction for Team Williams. Just under two weeks between runs since recording an impressive win at Northam where he got run of the race stuff in transit before being clicked up late and drew clear to win and win well. He’s heading in the right direction so confident he measures up.
9 Soldier Pat (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Patronize that resumes. This guy hasn’t raced since April 5 when wide with cover and was quite keen in the run before angling into clear air and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish it off when fourth. Been given a good break and with a sharp trial under the belt, he’s ready to go. Watch the market and see what it does.
Race 5. (16:53) Tabtouch Handicap (66+) 1000m
5 Rumour Says (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a mare I want to give another chance to. Ran two weeks ago at this track/distance where she got back and was held up in traffic. She was unlucky but that said, she was out in time to win behind Cut The Talk. Pike sticks and if she gets the rub of the green this time around, she can bounce back into the winners list.
2 Cut The Talk (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an absolute beauty and really, just a model of consistency. He has been excellent in three runs back, the latest coming a fortnight back in the race mentioned above where he got a beaut sit outside the speed and was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to get the job done. He was a few weeks between runs there so with room for improvement, he appeals.
4 Madam Kisses (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Donna Riordan after racing last Saturday at this track/distance where she was impressive from off the speed, getting off heels in the straight and drew clear to win and win well. She has done a super job this time in and commands respect against this lot.
Race 6. (17:33) Quokka 2024 Handicap (66+) 2000m
2 Romancing The Rock (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but not much confidence given there is a bit of depth to this. Team Williams trained gelding that is three weeks between runs since winning over the mile here, with Pike giving him a 12/10 in transit and in a driving finish, he was too good in an impressive display. Hard to knock the way he’s racing at the moment.
6 Zaza Rock (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing in career best form for Trevor Andrews. He comes slightly back in trip after winning over 2100m last Wednesday here, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive display under O’Donnell. Good test here as he steps up to Saturday metro grade, but he’s heading in the right direction.
4 Magic Whistle (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. First run for Jason Pateman came over the mile at Northam when on speed and he tried hard but first run for the stable, few weeks between runs, condition just gave way late in the piece. Better for the run, he has a fab record at Belmont, so don’t dismiss him.
Race 7. (18:10) Morley Growers Markets Handicap (66+) 1600m
3 Allez Allez (Bet Now: $SP.00) seems the straight bat option for Michael Lane. Four weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when on speed throughout and tried his guts out but wasn’t able to finish it off, nabbed late by a very much in form Starry Heights. Break between runs I find interesting but does strike a very winnable race.
6 Zephyra (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate getting back up to the mile. She was 1600m back to 1400m when racing here a fortnight back. She got to near last in the run and while she was never a threat, I liked the way she found the line late in the piece behind Magnificent Andy. Back up in trip, can settle closer in the run, she’ll take holding out.
4 Mountain Ash (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found positive form and he can certainly go on with it. He was ridden with intent two weeks back at this track/distance, attempting to lead throughout and giving a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Pompey. He’s got more room for improvement and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
Race 8. (18:50) Black Heart Bart Stakes 1200m
8 Baby Paris (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be given another chance. Colin Webster trained mare that resumed four weeks ago in the Jolly Beggar where she struggled to pick her feet up on the wet ground so forgive and forget the run behind Long Beach. 1200m is a query but back on firmer footing is a big tick and with her best, she is clearly brilliant enough to take this out.
4 Phanta (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be suited back to 1200m for Team Gangemi. He has been kept on ice, five weeks between runs since being on speed in the Idyllic Prince and gave a very strong kick but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to a very good horse, Valour Road. He’s better suited at 1200m and with a soft time of it on speed likely, he’ll take running down.
5 Weaponson (Bet Now: $SP.00) has to be given another look. Dan Morton trains this gelding, who resumed two weeks back in the Nicopolis where he was specked at odds but didn’t fire a shot in a pretty plain finale behind River Rubicon in a disappointing return. He is better than that so I think he has to be given another chance.
Race 9. (19:28) Free Entry To Belmont Handicap (1MW) 1200m
3 Saloon Bar (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but gee he is becoming quite costly so not sure I could bet on him to win but he is the one to beat. Ran two weeks ago over this track/distance where he got back near last and worked home strongly late in the piece when second to Celebrity Prince. If he can get a drag into the race and be within range on the turn, he’ll take holding out.
6 Celebrity Prince (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a lightly raced four year old that is heading in the right direction. Son of Xtravagant that won the race mentioned above from a fortnight back, getting a sweet sit in transit behind the speed before angling clear and he was quite strong to the line in getting the job done. He has good room for improvement and strikes a winnable race once again.
7 Valsassina (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Simon Miller trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Feb 18 at Pinjarra when producing an end of prep run when down the track behind Supersession after getting every chance it seemed behind the speed. She is a mare who can sprint well fresh and has trialled up well leading in. Watch the market.
