The Rosehill Carnival wraps up this Saturday, headlined by the mouth watering clash between Zardozi and Orchestral in the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m). Weather is fine, track is soft (5) and the rail is out six metres from the 900m-Winning Post; Out five metres for the remainder.

Race 1. (12:30) Midway (Bm72) 1300m
18 Field Wiri (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing well for Team Freedman and commands some level of respect. She ran a fortnight back in the Midway over 1200m. She was wide, back in the run, and took a while to wind into her work, but was pretty good late in the piece behind Super Bright. She’s nearing a win…keen to see how she goes, especially if ridden with intent.
1 Brimstone (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like he will appreciate getting to 1300m. He ran in the 1200m Midway from two weeks ago here and he was good late in finding the line when a close up third to Super Bright. Like him up in trip, he gets T Clark and should settle handy. Likeable.
11 Mayrose (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with her best but gee she can be frustrating to follow. This mare was kept safe in betting two weeks back in the Midway here. She got a fair way out of her ground and was right up on the fence when making her run, which was the quicksand, so forgive and forget. Trialled well leading in and she’s very capable with her best.
Race 2. (13:05) Neville Sellwood Stakes 2000m
9 Renaissance Woman (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a little while between runs but gee she looks well placed here I feel fro Bjorn Baker. Clear excuses first up before going to the Coolmore Classic two weeks ago where she was quite good late behind Zougotcha. Love her up to 2000m and gee she’s so well in at the weights with just 53.5kg. Keen on her prospects.
1 Zeyrek (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Team Hawkes after racing last Saturday in the Ranvet where he sat off the speed in what was pretty much a barrier trial and he just didn’t have the change up speed to go with them late in the piece behind Via Sistina. Looks much better suited at this level and gee he’s well in at the weights.
3 Bois D’Argent (Bet Now: $SP.00) I can entertain for wider exotics. He did more than enough first up in the Randwick City Stakes behind a solid stayer in Serpentine. He is one horse who I think could slide forward…I doubt he wins, but he can certainly run top four with a positive steer.
Race 3. (13:40) TL Baillieu Handicap 1400m
6 Linebacker (Bet Now: $SP.00) is clearly on top for me. He is a really nice horse for John O’Shea that comes here with relatively fresh legs, having not raced since a spank job debut win at Hawkesbury where he led them a merry dance and had plenty in hand. Trial work since has been outstanding…he’s a Champagne horse for sure and can confirm it here.
1 Anode (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on speed and prove hard to run down. He did that a fortnight back in the Pago Pago and tried his guts out but found one better in Dublin Down, who didn’t disgrace himself in the Slipper. Wide draw, but will press forward and give a sight I am sure.
3 Parkour (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like he will appreciate 1400m. He ran two weeks back in the Pago Pago over 1200m here. He got a fair way out of his ground and in a race suited to those on speed, he was never a winning threat behind Dublin Down. Like him up in trip and overall, this isn’t a deep race.
Race 4. (14:15) Tulloch Stakes 2000m
3 Wymark (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very progressive animal for Michael Freedman that is heading in the right direction. He has won three on the bounce, giving them an absolute spanking at Newcastle two back before coming here two weeks ago when impressive from off the speed, getting better as the race went on. Been set for this en route to the Derby and I am quite keen on his chances.
11 High Dandy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of these Ace High’s that are just going to get better with time and age. He has been strong in two runs back, catching the eye fresh at Kembla before spanking them from the front at Wyong, albeit in a moderate maiden, but he was still pretty dominant. Good test here, but confident he measures up.
7 Noisy Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Todd Howlett trained three year old that is sneaky flying. He comes through the Phar Lap from two weeks back where he took a little while to wind into his work but he was very good late in the piece behind Zardozi. He’ll love getting to 2000m I feel and for mine, is a definite winning chance.
Race 5. (14:50) Emancipation Stakes 1500m
6 Vienna Princess (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness for Chris Waller. She ran two weeks back in the Coolmore Classic where she got back to near last in the run and did make up headway without threatening behind Zougotcha. Firmer footing and hard fit, she can run a much improved race.
2 Hinged (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a good mare for Chris Waller that is nearing a win at this level. She ran a ripping fifth in the Coolmore Classic two weeks ago where she got back, wide with cover, and tried her guts out when a close up fifth to stablemate Zougotcha. Hasn’t won in forever but does strike a very winnable race.
9 Gently Rolled (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Bryce Heys trained mare that is racing really well. She put together a couple of wins on the bounce before going to 1400m here two weeks back where she got back in a race dominated on speed by Whinchat but I didn’t mind the way she found the line. Like her up in trip and hopefully with a more genuine tempo, she’s dangerous.
Race 6. (15:25) Star Kingdom Stakes 1200m
11 Libertad (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks hard to beat for Annabel Neasham. Two weeks between runs since contesting the Maurice McCarten where he got into a decent enough spot just off the speed before angling into clear air and let down nicely when running second to Red Card. Hard fit now and up to 1200m, he’s likeable.
4 Shinzo…(Bet Now: $SP.00) career defining prep for the Golden Slipper winner. He ran solid races for the most part in the Spring but he wasn’t the horse that won the Slipper last year so that is the query, how has he come back and how will he measure up. But, he has trialled up solid enough in readiness and I am convinced he has the engine under the hood to be dangerous.
6 Malkovich (Bet Now: $SP.00) is suited back to this level and back to 1200m. Thrown in the deep end three weeks back in the Canterbury Stakes where he led at a decent clip alongside Coal Crusher and was game in defeat but 1300m sees him out when down the track behind Lady Laguna. Better suited here and if he gets front end control, he’ll take running down.
Race 7. (16:00) Vinery Stud Stakes 2000m
2 Zardozi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a star filly, a special filly. Yes, I might have Blinkers on given how good she has been to me, but gee her Phar Lap win was arrogant, the way she went through her gears and was so dominant the way she gapped them. Hard fit now, up to 2000m and provided the track isn’t too chewed, I think Orchestral will need to be every bit as good as she is to beat this girl.
1 Orhcestral…(Bet Now: $SP.00) she’s a star, and a potential WFA star over the coming years. She has been the best 3YO in New Zealand this season, by a fair distance, as evidenced by her romp in a fast run New Zealand Derby. Roger James believes she is the best horse he has trained, she gets J Mac…easy to like. But, the price is the query. Too short.
5 Tutta La Vita (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with her best. She ran in in the Kembla Grange Classic where she seemingly got into a decent spot off the speed and presented but was very one paced when asked behind Queen Of Dragons. Like her up to 2000m and third up from a spell, she should be at peak fitness.
Race 8. (16:35) Tancred Stakes 2400m
I am a big fan of 5 Post Impressionist (Bet Now: $SP.00) and it’s hard to get away from him. He was an arrogant winner of the Manion Cup last Saturday, sitting back and giving them a beating, letting down with impressive change up speed. That race wasn’t a gutbuster and this isn’t a strong edition of the Tancred. Keen.
3 Ashrun (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Ciaron Maher and looks to be ticking along beautifully. He got his confidence up in the Pakenham Cup where he ate up the fast run 2500m and was quite impressive the way he put them away late in the piece. Not sure how he’ll go at WFA but to be fair, this is a very thin race, so for mine, off that win, he commands respect.
9 Athabascan (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be ticking along nicely towards the Sydney Cup. Did more than enough fresh in the Verry Elleegant before going to Sky High where the track was a touch shifty and while he struggled, he was simply not at the level of Lindermann. Not sure he wins, but a must for exotics now he gets a rise in trip.
Race 9. (17:15) Doncaster Prelude 1500m
17 Another Wil (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very, very good horse for Ciaron Maher. He reminds me of Incentivise. Breeding suggests he’ll be a stayer but is just so dynamic over shorter trips. The win last time at Flemington was just something else, the change up speed and arrogance. It’s scary that he looks a serious Doncaster contender and on the other hand, is bred to be a Melbpurne Cup horse. Confident he wins this.
10 Von Hauke (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented animal for Cliff Brown that has returned in really good order. He was good against the pattern fresh at Caulfield behind Twin Perfection before going to Flemington where he got a peach from Williams and in a driving go, he was too good for Amenable. He is third up from a spell and should be suited up to 1500m. Hard to beat.
7 Ucalledit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope. He ran in the Newcastle Stakes and his run was a beauty given he was back and held up in a race dominated on speed, he found the line with real purpose behind stablemate Rustic Steel. Maps to do no work, he’ll be strong late…first four contender.
Race 10. (17:55) Hkjc World Pool (Bm88) 1400m
8 Gringotts (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented animal for Ciaron Maher that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since Nov 11 over 1400m at Rosehill when tucked in behind the speed and he tried his guts out but couldn’t quite get there behind Felix Majestic, a borderline Stakes class horse, so that form does read well and his jumpout work has been strong. Keen to see him resume.
13 Razors (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a handy three year old for James Cummings that appeals. Market kept him safe at odds when resuming here a fortnight back. He sat on speed and tried his guts out but just found a couple better but he was still good in defeat behind Whinchat. Like him up in trip and has good upside.
4 Matthew Flinders (Bet Now: $SP.00) is having his second prep in Australia for Annabel Neasham and he’s either going to turn the corner or he’ll be heading to Rockhampton. He didn’t really fire in two runs last prep but his trial work this time in has been more than encouraging and off his best UK form, it’s good enough to be dangerous.
