Queensland metro racing this Saturday heads to the Sunshine Coast where it is Sunshine Coast Cup Day. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Sunshine Coast Cup π: View the Fields and Odds for the Sunshine Coast Cup
Race 1. (13:23) Bmw 2 Series Gran Coupe (bm72) 1000m
11 Modelka (Bet Now:Β $4.40) on top in what looks a tidy little sprint race. Team Edmonds trains this mare, who resumes. Hasn’t raced since August 5 here at this track/distance in what was her lone run for the prep. She bolted in and was much too good for her rivals. Given a good break, trialled well…hard to go past her.
6 Lyrical Girl (Bet Now:Β $1.45) is a talented daughter of Your Song for Tony Gollan that resumes. Hasn’t raced since October 31 at Doomben when making it 4/4 for the prep in leading throughout, bolting up in a race which has turned out to be a good form reference. No trials to get ready, but she’s just a reliable mare.
10 Kaoru King (Bet Now:Β $20.00) can bounce back here. 2/2 to start the prep, including a win at Doomben. He then went to Ballina when putting the pressure on in front from on speed and just tired late. His best chance of winning is if he finds the front. If that eventuates, he can take this out without totally surprising.
Race 2. (13:58) Coastline Bmw 4 Series Coupe 1000m
4 Snitzari (Bet Now:Β $5.00) on top. Kris Lees trained filly that found a winnable race against the older horses fresh at Muswellbrook and not sure she was entirely happy on the wet track, but her class got her home and was too good for them. Stable is going well and think she’s one of the hardest to beat.
3 Zingalong (Bet Now:Β $4.00) is a Trevor Miller trained gelding who is hard to beat back up to this level. Very good without winning at this level on a couple of occasions before going back to maiden grade where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted in leading throughout. He’ll give a bold sight from near the speed.
2 Simply Fly (Bet Now:Β $7.50) is putting together a tidy little record for the Rex Lipp camp. Marked liked him late when he resumed over this track/distance and looked in a bit of trouble early on in the straight but launched late and finished best. Can improve off that and knows where the line is.
Race 3. (14:33) Coastline Bmw M3 Sedan Classic 1200m
5 Mishani Enchanted (Bet Now:Β $3.50) on top. Les Ross trained filly that is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at Doomben where things didn’t go right for her and she was unlucky not to win I thought when fourth to Mystic Gem. Fitter and up in trip with Rodd steering, very likeable.
6 Glorious Ruby (Bet Now:Β $2.30) has to command respect. Debuted three weeks ago in the Pearl at the Gold Coast where she was really well specked at a price, into $61 from $201+, and the move was right because she worked home nicely to run second to Swift Witness. That form has to be strong for a race like this.
3 Hats (Bet Now:Β $15.00) can add some value to multiples. He debuted over 1200m at Eagle Farm at the midweeks where he was back off the speed and although was never really a winning threat, did make up ground late and was more than encouraging in defeat. He’ll get back and work home well at the end.
Race 4. (15:12) Bmw 5 Series Sedan (rs0mw) 1200m
1 Ramtastic (Bet Now:Β $8.00) can easily win this. Three weeks between runs since racing in the Magic Millions Country Cup at the Gold Coast where he bombed the start and that pretty much sealed his fate, but worked home well late nearer the inside. If he jumps clean and can get near the speed, he’ll take some beating.
6 Trengganu (Bet Now:Β $3.10) was scratched from the 1000m race to instead tackle this 1200m contest which I find interesting given he was on speed fresh over 1000m at Eagle Farm and didn’t exactly savage the line in getting the job done. Has run well at 1200m though and got upside, plus might be better with something to chase.
8 Courting Victory (Bet Now:Β $8.50) has a good record at the Sunny Coast and can run a positive race here at odds. Ran here last time out a few weeks ago and tried hard, just missing out on the win when second to Ecker Road. Gets down in the weights and should be strong at the end. Winning threat.
Race 5. (15:52) Bmw 8 Series Coupe Hcp (c6) 1600m
3 Star Of Michelin (Bet Now:Β $5.50) on top for me. Stuart Kendrick trained gelding who tends to save his best for bigger tracks, and he does like racing on his home track. Three weeks between runs since racing in The Wave at the Gold Coast when outclassed and not suited in the sit/sprint behind Paradee. Better suited here and can take this out.
4 Penshurst (Bet Now:Β $3.60) has returned in outstanding order for Matty Dunn. Class got him home fresh at Murwillumbah before going to the Ballina Cup where he had to make a long sustained run from the back but gee he unleashed a powerful finishing burst and was much too good. Deserves a crack in a race like this.
Up in trip I do like for 8 Momentum To Win (Bet Now:Β $46.00). Has had two runs back from a spell, both runs coming over unsuitable trips. Latest run was over 1200m at Eagle Farm where he wasn’t suited by the midrace anchor drop and couldn’t get involved. Fitter, up in trip, he’s a knockout chance.
Race 6. (16:32) Coastline Bmw X3 Plate (c3) 1400m
4 Samurai (Bet Now:Β $6.50) is going super for Noel Doyle and is hard to beat against this lot. He comes back to 1400m after winning impressively over 1500m at Eagle Farm last time out, sitting back off the speed before peeling wider and finishing best to win and win well. He is flying at the moment and I think he can win again.
Up to 1400m looks a big tick for the Tony Gollan trained mare 10 Pull Anchor (Bet Now:Β $2.60). She ran over 1300m at the Gold Coast three weeks ago where she was back near last in the run but loved the way she closed off late in the piece behind Stolen Jade. Think that form has to hold up well for a race like this.
1 Degas (Bet Now:Β $10.00) looks well suited back to this level. He found them a bit sharp three weeks back at the Gold Coast when down the track behind Yao Dash. Just went too keen on speed and had nothing left for the straight. Has a good record at 1400m and if he can relax in the run, he’ll be dangerous.
Race 7. (17:12) Coastline Bmw X6 Hcp 1600m
9 Divulge (Bet Now:Β $2.50) is a Tony Gollan trained three year old that is progressive and heading in the right direction. Narrow second on debut over 1350m at Ipswich before stepping up to 1660m at Doomben where he was near the speed and despite doing a bit wrong early on in the straight, he bolted clear late and was much too good. He can measure up to these for sure.
5 Igor (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is racing as if the mile will be ideal. Kacy Fogden trained three year old that carries the Aquis colours, as does Divulge. He finished best in a driving go to win over 1400m here last time out. That was a few weeks ago, and has had a tick over trial to get ready. Knockout chance.
Not sure what to do with 1 Magic Conqueror (Bet Now:Β $9.50). Off his Spring form, he would just about win this. They tested him towards the Magic Millions and ran in the big race. He didn’t measure up at all, but does get to the mile, which is his ideal trip and a bounce back could well be on the cards.
Race 8. (17:48) Sunshine Coast Cup 1400m
2 Sambro (Bet Now:Β $11.00) is the best horse in the race by a mile and if things fall into place for him, he’ll only run well. Forget he went around at the Gold Coast two weeks ago given he reared as the gates opened and that put pay to his chances. Form prior was good and this race is much, much weaker.
1 Emerald Kingdom (Bet Now:Β $3.60) is four weeks between runs for Rob Heathcoate since racing in The Buffering when on speed and pressing the pace. Tried hard and looked home for a few strides but had no answers for the finale produced by a very much in form Soxagon. That form reads well for a race like this and Rodd takes over.
5 Victory Eight (Bet Now:Β $23.00) lacks the class of some of these, but one thing he does have going for him is a proper love affair with his home track at the Sunny Coast. Eight of his ten career wins have come here and could well win another based on his resumption, which came here over 1000m in what was more or less a barrier trial, but loved the way he closed off behind Unguarded. He’ll get back and work home late.
Race 9. (18:27) Coastline Bmw X7 Hcp 1000m
2 Spurcraft (Bet Now:Β $3.80) has the class factor on these. He was run off his legs early three weeks back at the Gold Coast but he balanced up and ran on strongly to finish second to Sugar Boom in a very good effort. Just needs to show better early speed and if he can, he will take a power of beating.
Giving 6 Tullio (Bet Now:Β $7.50) another chance. Tony Gollan trained sprinter that had trialled well prior to resuming over 900m at the Gold Coast three weeks ago. Just think that trip at this level, he found them a bit sharp, but wasn’t bad in defeat behind stablemate and speed demon Sugar Boom. Fitter and up to 1000m, very likeable.
4 Invincible Al (Bet Now:Β $7.50) saves his best for the 1000m and I think has to command respect. Comes through the Sugar Boom race from three weeks ago at the Gold Coast and he was a real eye catcher late when third to the stablemate. He’ll get back so needs things to go his way, but he is capable.
