Racing continues at Morphettville Parks this Saturday with eight races to be run and won. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is out four metres from the 1000m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.
Race One (13:08) : Melbourne Parkview Hotel Handicap (70) 1250m:
Back Me: 2 Mr Markou (Bet Now: $3.70) resumed over 1000m here three weeks in a similar race where he had the charmed run behind the tempo but for a few strides he didn’t have the turn of foot but he balanced up and was strongest late to win. Up to 1250m suits and the claim for Poon is a big tick.
Long Shot: 1 Bullion Wolf (Bet Now: $4.20) trialled really well here prior to racing in the Posh Journey race where for the most part, he was just run off his legs and he really only got warm the final 100m. Another that saves his best for the Parks track and I think he could be the sharp improver here.
Roughie: 4 Posh Journey (Bet Now: $5.00) had confident market support when racing over 1050m in that race mentioned above and she let down strongly from off the speed to score a narrow but impressive victory. Claim for Eran Boyd helps, and she has a turn of foot compared to the other trio.
Race Two (13:48) : UBET Handicap (90) 1300m:
Back Me: Was really good to see 1 Lord Aspen (Bet Now: $1.65) back at the races when resuming in the Durrbridge and gee he ran a beauty, looking the winner most of the way down the straight but was nabbed near the peg by Cavaloce. Should take good benefit from that outing, he has class and only has upside to my eye.
Big Danger: 6 Pepper The Pin (Bet Now: $3.60) has been in ripping form this time in for the Macdonald/Gluyas operation, winning a couple of races in tough fashion before going to the 1200m on the course proper three weeks back where he sat on speed and fought on well when running third to Fine Approach. He saves his best for the Parks track and gets weight relief. Ticks alot of boxes.
Long Shot: 4 Outlandish Lad (Bet Now: $26.00) might be an eleven year old but gee he is racing as well as ever. Closed off hard two back here when a close up fourth to Karlovasi before going to the Murray Bridge Cup where he got back in the ruck and closed off okay without threatening behind Sandhill Warrior. He is another who races well here.
Race Three (14:33) : Schweppes Handicap (75) 1950m:
Back Me: 7 Time Walker (Bet Now: $8.50) ran over the Balaklava mile last Wednesday where he ran on a rock hard surface and though held up a touch in the straight, I thought he had his chance behind Daisy’s Joy. I think the cushion this track provides will be right up his alley, and he should be at peak fitness now.
Big Danger: 4 Kifaah (Bet Now: $1.80) ran over 1800m on the course proper a fortnight ago and he was game in defeat behind Metro Cowboy in what was his first run in three weeks, so I think he may have a touch of improvement left, and despite being quite short in the market here, this is a thin race.
Long Shot: 2 Tunes (Bet Now: $13.00) is on the back up after racing last Saturday where he sat on speed most of the way and stuck to the task very gamely in the straight when running fourth to Jim’s Journey, beaten two lengths. Finding it hard to win, but so are most of these, he’s tough, hard fit and will just keep chipping away.
Race Four (15:13) : Casino Royale @ Morphettville Maiden Plate 1400m:
Back Me: 6 Fast ‘N’ Rolling (Bet Now: $2.00) looks close to a good thing here. This Hayes/Dabernig galloper performed very well during the Winter, including a couple of strong efforts at Flemington behind Trenchant. Jump outs have been encouraging to my eye, and only has to show a sniff of his best to knock this field off.
Big Danger: 13 Waging War (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Rebel Raider gelding that ran over 1200m on the course proper a fortnight back where he loomed into the race as the winner and for a few strides he did look the winner but was simply no match for the very impressive Enki. I think with some more patience, he will be more effective, and up to 1400m should be ideal.
Long Shot: 14 Lanson Lass (Bet Now: $13.00) ran in what looked a strong maiden on Murray Bridge Cup Day and I thought her effort was very good in defeat behind, beaten a half length in a thrilling finish. I think she has a bit of upside left and I think if she can slot in and get cover from the tricky gate, she can certainly prove a threat.
Race Five (15:58) : Quayclean Handicap (80) 1400m:
Back Me: 3 Loveitt (Bet Now: $2.70) resumed on here where she had a charmed run behind the tempo and looked as though she was going to burst through and win but her fitness just gave way late. Should take good benefit from that and is a definite leading contender despite the break between runs.
Big Danger: 2 Beluga Blue (Bet Now: $3.10) is the class mare of the field that resumes for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable. She contested the high quality races for the three year old fillies during the Adelaide Carnival, including a solid midfield effort in the Oaks behind Abbey Marie before ending the prep with a game fourth in the Fillies Classic behind Chabaud. Comes here with no trials, but she has class and quality on her side.
Long Shot: 1 Fine Approach (Bet Now: $7.50) is on the back up after racing last Saturday over 1250m here where she got back in the run and was only warming to the task late behind Ample On Offa. Up to 1400m really suits and she does run very well on this track. Creeping up in the weights, but the claim for Caboche is very much in her favour.
Race Six (16:43) : David Loy Handicap (70) 1000m:
Back Me: 2 Brimarvi Equiada (Bet Now: $5.50) is a talented four year that resumes for the Paul Seater yard. He ran some pretty solid races in town as a three year old last time in, including efforts behind some handy types. Trial win on October 7 here was sharp and he absolutely bolted in first up last time in. Happy to be with him in what looks a tricky race to sort out.
Big Danger: 3 Evil Dreams (Bet Now: $2.60) was kept very safe in the market when resuming on the course proper three weeks back where she sat on speed and fought hard down the straight but had to settle for a close up second to Core Beach. Should take good improvement off that and second up last time in, he was five lengths off Don’t Doubt Mamma. That reads well for this.
Long Shot: 4 Just Kappy (Bet Now: $17.00) was unwanted in betting when racing in the feature sprint race on Murray Bridge Cup Day yet he defied the odds and worked home with purpose late behind the above average sprinter Tarco. He is a winner on the Parks track and this isn’t a strong race at all.
Race Seven (17:28) : Akeed Mofeed @ Goldin Farms Handicap (70) 1550m:
Back Me: 2 Mail It In (Bet Now: $3.70) is on the back up after racing last Saturday here where he got a mile back in the run and finished off strongly late when running fifth to Last Bullet, beaten just over a length. Up to 1550m suits, and I like the fact he is on the seven day turnaround, a sign he has recovered from the run well enough.
Big Danger: 8 On A Dream (Bet Now: $11.00) had been a long time between wins prior to racing over the mile on the course proper three weeks ago where he sat outside the speed and gave a really good kick when challenged by the well performed Dreadlock to grab victory and cling on. Now that he has that winning feeling, I think he can go right on with it.
Long Shot: 5 Beau’s My Boy (Bet Now: $17.00) comes back in trip after racing over 1800m on the course proper a fortnight back. He sat outside the leader that day and was a beaten horse before the turn, dropping out to finish near last behind Metro Cowboy. Hasn’t won for a while, but a return to the Parks track and back to 1550m could spark improvement.
Race Eight (18:08) : MAC Drink Driving? GROW UP Handicap (64) 1300m:
Back Me: 12 Brown Ben (Bet Now: $5.00) has been freshened up since running here on September 24 where he got a long way back in the run before finishing off strongly late behind Roselli Sting, who has since run well on a couple of occasions. Looked to trial well recently and with a cleaner getaway, he is the one to beat.
Big Danger: 3 Call Me Curtis (Bet Now: $2.50) was heavily backed when racing on the course proper a fortnight back where he sat off speed and chased hard all the way to run fourth to Entrancing, who is unbeaten in two runs for Phillip Stokes. He beat home several future winners second up last prep, so he ticks plenty of boxes for me.
Long Shot: 1 Burnro (Bet Now: $18.00) had market support when resuming in that Federal Court race three weeks back where he got back in the run and couldn’t really get into the race when finishing down the track. He does save his best racing for when he is produced second up and up to 1300m should be beneficial.
