29/1/2021 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Canterbury

Night racing continues at Canterbury this Friday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (7) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

I’m really surprised by the big odds on offer for 4 Roccaforte (Bet Now: $7.00). Richard Litt trained first starter that has looked quite sharp in a couple of trials, the latest seeing him win at Kembla. He looks a really good mover…not sure the tight track will suit, but at the odds, happy to speck.

2 O’President (Bet Now: $3.60) is a Fastnet Rock colt for Chris Waller that resumes. He debuted in the Spring in the Kirkham Plate and was far from disgraced in what I think was a good race. Liked a recent trial and J Mac does ride from a soft draw. Hard to beat.

3 Revivalist (Bet Now: $3.90) debuts here for Team Snowden and is a definite market watch. Has had two trials this prep to get ready for start one, and has got better as the prep has gone on it seems. Tricky draw to overcome, but have to respect the stable with their juveniles.

Does look a race in two, but I do think the market will flip and 1 Kaptive (Bet Now: $2.45) will end up starting favourite. Just got shuffled back at Wyong last time and had too much to do in a good effort in defeat. If he can sit closer in the run, he does look the winner and the price is more than acceptable.

2 Comporta (Bet Now: $1.80) is a Chris Waller trained filly that has finished runner up in both career outings and the efforts have been sound, but she has been safely held both runs and do feel she is a bit on the limited side. But she gets J Mac and will be out of trouble on speed.

3 Kermajack (Bet Now: $35.00) can be an improver up in trip. Stablemate of Comporta that debuted at Kembla. Looked very raw and new to the caper and got a long way back but liked the way he finished off. Gets a rise in trip and should do no work from the gate. First four contender.

Think the first starter 2 Teleporter (Bet Now: $2.35) can take this out. Team Hawkes trained son of Rubick that has had one trial to get ready, which came at Rosehill and he looked to move quite well. This race overall is lacking a bit of depth so happy to be in his corner.

7 Impressive Lass (Bet Now: $3.90) looks a bit of value at around the $7 mark. She closed off strongly last time out at Gosford after getting a fair way back in the run. Third up now, she’s hard fit and hopefully can sit closer in the run from the good draw. Think she’s the main threat.

3 Nishikori (Bet Now: $13.00) is a son of Real Impact resuming for Matty Dunn. Showed decent enough promise in his first prep, debuting with a placing at Hawkesbury before failing at Warwick Farm. Returns to racing as a gelding and his two trials to get ready haven’t been too bad to the eye.

Think 2 Lando Bay (Bet Now: $2.70) is the safe option. John Thompson trained gelding that ran over this track/distance last time out when on speed and putting the pressure on. Took the lead shortly after straightening but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Amoretti. Maps to get a perfect run just off the speed and prove hard to beat.

6 Mubariz (Bet Now: $2.70) comes through the same race as Lando Bay mentioned above. He got back in the run and chased strongly late when a close up fifth to the in form Amoretti. Has a good record on wet ground and I always respect Waller runners when they back up as soon as this.

4 Tochi (Bet Now: $12.00) can be very dangerous if she finds the front and gets control. She does tend to save her best for this track. Be forgiving of last start when leading and copping too much pressure. If she can find the front and get a cheap furlong or two, she’ll take some beating.

In the corner of 7 Brazen Gem (Bet Now: $4.20) for Bjorn Baker. Comes back to midweek grade after racing at Rosehill where the rub of the green didn’t go her way and was warming to the task late behind Lillemor. Gets run of the race from the draw and Rachel King takes the ride.

2 Vreneli (Bet Now: $2.15) is the hard fit/in form runner here and potentially gets a soft time of it in front. Dominant win at Warwick Farm last time but the second and third placegetters have been beaten since, so the form is suspect, but the map looks very kind towards him.

Big watch here on 5 Exotic Deel (Bet Now: $8.50), with eyes towards the Country Championships. Quality mare for Nick Olive that resumes, having not raced since the Spring when winning 3/3. No trials to get ready for her return, but looking for her to hit the line with an eye towards the Nowra heat.

10 Silent Agenda (Bet Now: $4.20) doesn’t have the greatest of winning strike rates, but Joe Pride looks to have him going super and in a winnable race, leaning his way. Ran last Saturday at Kembla and kept fighting under pressure, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Rebel Bro. Gets a good run from the barrier and should be strong at the end.

If you were on 4 Foxborough (Bet Now: $5.50) last Friday night, apologies last Friday night, apologies for bringing up the nightmare. She should have gone close to winning, but just didn’t get clear at any stage when seemingly full of running. J Mac on and drawn out, so don’t think she will be getting held up this time.

7 Miss Redoble (Bet Now: $11.00) is a knockout hope. Tracey Bartley trained mare that comes back in trip after racing over 1800m at Randwick where she just found the trip a bit far behind Sacramento. Gets a soft trip from the inside gate and her best is clearly good enough.

Happy to back 2 Buckin’ Beauty (Bet Now: $6.50) each way. This mare drops a mile in grade/depth after racing in an 88 at Rosehill when on speed outside Stakes winner The Bopper and tried hard. Just tired late behind Tailleur. Should land outside Cardiff and prove hard to beat.

Fitter and up in trip I do like for 9 Lunar Tramp (Bet Now: $5.50). Resumed over 1000m at Warwick Farm where she got back to near last in the run but got clear late and worked home strongly when second to Able Hill. Form around her from last prep does read well for a race like this.

4 Miss Scorcher (Bet Now: $13.00) gets the Blinkers first time and that could spark improvement from this mare, who does have decent form around her overall. Last run came three weeks ago at Canterbury when wide no cover in a total forgive behind Estrado. Better luck this time around and she can win without surprising.

6 Blazing (Bet Now: $6.00) can run a much improved race here at odds. He was massive in defeat last time out at Canterbury. Was four wide no cover for the trip yet was still there chipping away. Just tired late, but entitled to. He can get a much better run in transit this time around and take this out.

5 Sedition (Bet Now: $3.70) is on the seven day back up for Richard Litt after racing here last Friday night where he got back in the run and worked home strongly late, producing some of the better late splits of the race when third to Vulpine. Nash takes over and if he can sit closer in the run, he’ll take some beating.

2 Off Shaw (Bet Now: $8.50) is well placed back to this level I feel. Bjorn Baker trained gelding who has contested a couple of tidy Saturday races to start the prep and just hasn’t been suited in those kind of races. Has a good third up record and if he can find the front, he’ll take some catching.

BEST BET: Race Two Number 1 Kaptive

NEXT BEST: Race Eight Number 9 Revitup Rednut

LONG SHOT: Race One Number 4 Roccaforte
