Race 1. (12:57) Happy Birthday John Eley Mdn Plate 1200m
6 Mystical Wisdom (Bet Now: $8.00) gets the nod for me but not really a race I want to get involved in. Team Jolly trained gelding that ran over 1500m at Gawler last time out. He seemed to get a decent enough run in transit and presented to win in the straight but just couldn’t quite finish the job. Back to 1200m I like, he’ll be strong late and this isn’t a deep contest.
7 Noetzie (Bet Now: $3.10) is a son of Harry Angel that is on debut for Phillip Stokes. He has had a jumpout and a trial to get ready for start one, the latest piece of work being a trial, which saw him run second at Strathalbyn. Stable is firing with their first starters/first uppers, so watch the market and see what it does.
5 Mapleway (Bet Now: $31.00) is a key threat. He debuted at Hamilton in what looked a tidy maiden. He got into a decent spot off the speed and looked to be some sort of threat on the turn but just couldn’t quite finish the race off in defeat behind Royal Memory. Better for the run under the belt, he can win.
Race 2. (13:32) Sportsbet Fast Form (Bm74) 1050m
If they go silly in front, I think 3 Howl (Bet Now: $9.50) can launch over the top and win, which is what he did two back in the Riziz Final. He then raced on the Parks track three weeks ago and wasn’t quite as dynamic but he found the line well enough in defeat behind Cool Magnum. If he gets the speed on in front, he’ll sit back and can finish over the top.
2 Wolflands (Bet Now: $5.00) should appreciate the run under the belt from resuming at Caulfield Heath over 1000m where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line behind Grand Larceny. Fitter, back in depth, he rates highly.
9 Divine Glory (Bet Now: $15.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Team Snowden, she now finds herself with Clarken/O’Shea. She was a solid mare in NSW with okay form so it’s interesting she lobs here but her trial work has been encouraging and the stable rarely don’t get a tried horse to improve.
Race 3. (14:07) Sportsbet (Bm78) 2500m
3 Dolcemente (Bet Now: $2.70) on top in what looks a two horse race. She is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday over 2000m at Murray Bridge where she got a fair way out of her ground but I really liked the way she closed off in defeat behind Magnetic Edge. Racing like 2500m is ideal and strikes a very winnable race.
1 Arugamama (Bet Now: $3.20) took an absolute eternity to win a race and that came three weeks ago over 2400m on the Parks track. She got into a lovely spot in transit and was there to put a gap on them but had to fight for it. Thankfully she did and she was too good. Now she has won, she can go on with it.
9 Cours Vite (Bet Now: $17.00) is racing well for Travis Doudle and command some level of respect. He ran over 2200m at Balaklava two back when off the speed and kept chasing in a good performance behind in form mare Chosen Miss before racing at Oakbank where i don’t think he was 100% happy on the tight track. Back to 2500m should be fine, he’ll be strong late and strikes a winnable race.
Race 4. (14:42) Sportsbet Set A Deposit Limit (Bm78) 1800m
3 Hasseltoff (Bet Now: $2.35) is flying for Phillip Stokes and has to be respected. He was a strong winner here on Derby Day before having a mini let up and going to Gawler two weeks ago where he got better as the race went on and was strong to the line in winning. Hard to knock the way he’s racing.
9 Nasho (Bet Now: $7.00) seems a query at 1800m but if he gets front end control, he takes running down. He had the pattern in his corner at Gawler last time in the Hasseltoff mentioned above. He led and gave a strong kick but just couldn’t quite see it through. Hard to beat if he gets a good time of it in front.
4 Thrill Kill (Bet Now: $8.00) comes back to 1800m after racing over 2000m in the Bordertown Cup last time out. He got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up ground and was good in defeat behind Dr Dee Dee. Back in trip, hard fit and senior rider on, he’s dangerous.
Race 5. (15:17) Canadian Club Hcp (C2) 1200m
4 Eroica (Bet Now: $2.10) has the potential to be Stakes class so keen to see how she resumes. 2/2 to start her career for Peter Hardacre, with the two wins coming during the Summer, the second win being over 1100m at Gawler in dominant fashion. Given a good break, has trialled up super and as I said, I think she is destined for much better races.
3 Anotherhouse (Bet Now: $4.40) should appreciate a rise to 1200m after resuming a few weeks back over 1000m on the Parks track where he just found them a bit sharp but he stayed on and I thought was pretty good in defeat behind Cool Magnum. He is a previous second up winner and fitter, up to 1200m, bigger track, he takes beating.
1 Fine Future (Bet Now: $9.50) commands respect for Stephen Theodore off the back of a first up win over 1050m here where he gave them a start and a beating, getting better as the race went on to win and win well. Harder here, more depth, but he looks to have returned really well.
Race 6. (15:57) Dominant Hcp (64) 1600m
2 Metrical (Bet Now: $3.70) has a tricky gate to overcome but I reckon the Bain/Taylor camp has him going really well and in an open race, I am happy to be in his corner. He ran over 1500m at Gawler two weeks ago when back in the run and on a day where up/in was the spot, he couldn’t quite get involved well enough to win but he was good in defeat. If he’s within range on the turn, he has the finale to take this out.
4 Starts Now (Bet Now: $8.00) is an interesting runner. He ran over 2100m at Gawler a fortnight back and seemed to get every chance but was quite plain late in the piece I thought behind Eventually. He comes back 500m in the space of two weeks and does get Blinkers on, you’d hope to sharpen him up. If that eventuates, he can bounce back.
10 Wheels (Bet Now: $41.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile. She resumed in the same Gawler race that Metrical contested. She was back in the run too, in a similar boat to Metrical. Never a threat, but did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat. Not sure she wins, but a must for exotics.
Race 7. (16:32) Festival Hire Hcp (64) 1050m
11 Rocktagon (Bet Now: $4.50) looks to have returned in really good order. He resumed over 1100m at Murray Bridge when wide no cover throughout but he was trucking. Just a matter of pushing the button and once that eventuated, away he went and he was dominant. Confident he can measure up here.
6 Misludi (Bet Now: $5.50) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1000m on the Parks track. He got into a decent spot off the speed and tried hard but had no answers for them late when fourth to Kova. Good track/distance record, he commands respect.
16 Foster Street (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous if he can be within range on the turn. He ran a few weeks back where he got back to near last in the run and although he made up decent headway, he was never really a threat behind impressive winner Cool Magnum. If he can get a drag into the race, he can take this out.
Race 8. (17:12) Christmas Qlty 1200m
1 Press Down (Bet Now: $4.50) is the best horse in the race, by some distance. If he’s ready, then he wins. He hasn’t raced since Derby Day at Flemington when failing to fire a shot behind Maharba, who of course went on to run a beauty in the Winterbottom. That form is clearly A1 for this. If he’s right, then surely he beats this lot.
4 Dubai Poet (Bet Now: $7.50) is a Michael Hickmott trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Oct 12 when placing on his home track in the Murray Bridge Cup when second to stablemate and impressive winner Maracourt. Moved well in a recent jumpout and he’ll be strong late.
6 Silent Surrente (Bet Now: $31.00) is better suited over further but she has a touch of quality about her. She hasn’t been seen since June 8 at Flemington when placing over 2000m behind Virtuous Circle, who was flying at the time. She has a great record at this track…I’d say watch the market.
Race 9. (18:00) Thomas Farms (Bm64) 1200m
14 Hidden Witness (Bet Now: $15.00) seems a big price in the get out. Clarken/O’Shea trained mare that resumed with a bang in a maiden over 1050m here. She gave them a start, settling near last, but got clear air and she let down with nice change up speed to win and win well. Harder here, but confident she measures up.
6 Kinetic Jewel (Bet Now: $3.40) has found winning form and she can go on with it for Phillip Stokes. She was a strong winner over this three weeks ago on the Parks track. She was ridden with intent, landing on speed, and she was never getting beat from a fair way out, winning impressively albeit the margin was narrow.
5 Rockstar Meggsy (Bet Now: $12.00) is capable. Jon O’Connor trained mare that ran over 1000m on the Parks track three weeks ago. She got back in the run and was never a factor albeit made up ground behind the in form Kova. Back up in trip, not penning her.
