Race 1. (11:55) Midway Handicap 1300m
10 Bellenth (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to 1300m for Kim Waugh after racing over 1400m in the Midway at Randwick when on speed and he tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through behind Mogwai. Like him back in trip and hard fit, he appeals.
6 Meridiana (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a John Sargent trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since May 10 when down the track and produced an end of prep run in the Gold Coast Bracelet behind Pinito. Couple of lovely trials under the belt, watch betting.
2 Gently Rolled (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with her best. She ran behind Denman Star three weeks back in the Midway and kept on from near the speed in a game effort, beaten under two lengths. Finding it hard to win but maps well and this isn’t a deep race.
Race 2. (12:30) Tab Highway Handicap 1500m
3 Write Your Own (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the quick back up for Matty Dale after a dominant win last Tuesday at Moruya where he got a decent run in transit before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Confidence is up, he can go on with it.
2 Warrior For Peace (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came a few weeks back here in the Highway. He got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was good late. If within range, he has the finale to be quite dangerous.
1 Samurai (Bet Now: $SP.00) has midweek metro form, which does read well. He ran over 1550m at Canterbury where he wasn’t 100% happy on the wet track but he kept on and was a definite pass mark in defeat behind Zip On By. That form does appear to read quite well for this.
Race 3. (13:05) Colin Stephen Quality 2400m
7 Juja Kibo (Bet Now: $SP.00) gets his chance to showcase his Metropolitan credentials. He was ridden with clear intent two weeks ago at this track/distance by Ethan Brown. He landed on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win well. Hard fit, racing well, one of the hardest to beat.
2 Our Anchorage (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the seven day back up for Bjorn Baker after racing last Saturday at Randwick in the Kingston Town where he was outclassed on paper but I thought didn’t disgrace himself in defeat. Like him up to 2400m and the depth here is nowhere near as deep. Not sure he wins but is a first four threat.
6 Sun N Sand (Bet Now: $SP.00) is capable with her best. She sat on speed two weeks back over 1800m here when on speed and tried hard but in a sit/sprint, she couldn’t quite pick up late in the piece. If this becomes a proper 2400m contest, she can threaten at odds.
Race 4. (13:40) Irresistible Pools & Spas Handicap 1900m
4 Strathtay (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise to 1900m. He ran a fortnight back over 1800m here when back off speed and was held up at times before angling clear towards the inside and worked home really well with the big weight. Hard fit, J Mac on, it is go time.
8 Nkosi (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a leading contender for Bjorn Baker after a dominant win two weeks ago over 1800m here, leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win impressively. There is depth to this line up but hard to knock the way he’s racing at present.
1 Flying Bandit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a beauty for Kerry Parker and keen to see him here with eyes towards The Metropolitan. He is Big Dance Qualified, but he looks like he wants ground. He resumed threeweeks ago over the mile at Randwick where he was back off speed and held up at times but when clear, he kept chasing and was good late. Love him up in trip and if he gets room to move and wind up, I am confident he can measure up.
Race 5. (14:15) Toyota Forklifts Handicap 1400m
5 Sir Artie (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came a few weeks back at Rosehill where he got back a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and was good late. Fitter, can settle closer, dangerous.
10 Formal Display (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate firmer footing. He was a sharp winner fresh at Eagle Farm before going to the Tuncurry Cup where he led and tried hard but on the heavy track, he didn’t quite pick his feet up. Firmer deck, he can bounce back.
8 Point And Shoot (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver at odds. He has been terrible in both runs back from a spell but I will say that each time, he bombed the start. Recent trial was encouraging and his best is clearly good enough.
Race 6. (14:50) Heritage Stakes 1100m
I think the value lies with 8 Grand Eagle (Bet Now: $SP.00) for Ryan/Alexiou. Lack of fitness beat him first up on the Kenso and a tick over trial at Warwick Farm last week was very good albeit last. He moved nicely and will be strong late.
2 Beadman (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a fascinating runner. He is here to make a statement for The Everest. Resumes for Peter Snowden, with his last run seeing him absolutely bolt up in the Ken Russell at the Gold Coast when winning by a space and looking a world beater. His first trial, he went like a rocket. Second trial, he looked terrible, but off his race day stuff, he’s top seed here.
9 Central Coast (Bet Now: $SP.00) resumed as a deep odds on favourite at the midweeks at Canterbury, expected to win and perhaps put his hand up for the Golden Rose, but even on the bog track, he was very plain late when a narrow second. Firmer deck and fitter, home track, he gets another look.
Race 7. (15:25) Golden Pendant 1400m
1 Manaal (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and she can go on with it for Michael Freedman after her win two weeks ago in the Sheraco where she gave them a start and a beating, getting better as the race went on to win and win well. 1400m should be fine, one of the leading contenders.
2 Firestorm (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained mare that resumes. She had a two run Winter prep, placing in the Dane Ripper fresh before a down the track effort in the Tatts Tiara and was spelled soon after. She is a bomb fresh horse and her trial work to get ready has been strong. Hard to beat.
3 Scarlett Oak (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hit and miss but her best is good enough to be dangerous. She resumes for Chris Waller, her last run being over 2100m in the Gosford Cup when down the track and I don’t think ran out the trip. Fresh at 1400m I like and has trialled well for the return. Watch betting.
Race 8. (16:05) Golden Rose 1400m
Quite keen here on 7 Autumn Boy (Bet Now: $SP.00). Chris Waller trained colt that resumed in the Ming Dynasty two weeks ago and he was enormous in defeat from off speed, closing with real purpose late in the piece when second to stablemate Sixities. He can settle closer in the run, be strong late and looks primed for a forward showing.
9 Tempted (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a star for Ciaron Maher and has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat after her spank job return in the Run To The Rose, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. Fitter and up in trip, she can easily blow these away and stamp herself as an Everest contender.
2 Nepotism (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a big price here I feel. He resumed in the Run To The Rose where he got too far back in the run and was never really a factor. Fitter, 1400m, Winkers on to sharpen him up and he does have the runs on the board.
Race 9. (16:45) Shannon Stakes 1500m
7 Encap (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver for Gary Portelli. He resumed in the Theo Marks when off speed and just found them a bit sharp but he stayed on and was pretty good in defeat behind the star that is Autumn Glow. Better set up here, good upside to come, I am not dismissing him.
12 Shohisha (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a previous 1200m-1600m set up winner and she did it again a few weeks back at Randwick, finishing best from off speed to score. Has good upside to come it appears, she is one of the hardest to beat.
6 Democracy Manifest (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came in the Theo Marks when wide no cover throughout and the hard run just told on him late in the piece behind Autumn Glow. Good second up record, fitter and up in trip, he’s an improver.
Race 10. (17:25) E Security Group Handicap 1100m
5 Sammy Conquers All (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been kept on ice since Coffs Harbour Cup Day on Aug 1 when a dominant winner in the Daniel Baker Sprint, making a mess of them from on speed. Tick over trial was sharp, he looks suited at 1100m, leading contender.
7 Polyglot (Bet Now: $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance. He got a fair way off speed but tracked up well and surged late but found one better in Catch the Glory. Tick over trial last week was strong and with a more positive ride, he’ll take holding out.
14 Chidiac (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran behind Monte Supreme three weeks back at Randwick. She got off speed and was held up at times but was good late when third. If the breaks go her way and she can get clear air from the outset, she’s danergous.
