The Belmont Winter Carnival continues this Saturday where it is Strickland Stakes Day. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:58) Free Entry To Belmont Pk Plate 1000m
7 Bourbon Beau (Bet Now: $11.00) looks a very much above average juvenile and I think he can make a winning debut. Son of Brazen Beau for Simon Miller that is having start one off the back of just one trial, but gee he looked smart when winning over 1000m at Belmont, dashing clear when clicked up. Think he can take this out despite a tricky gate.
6 Billy Ain’t Silly (Bet Now: $3.10) is a son of I’m All The Talk for Colin Webster that is on debut. Has had two trials to prepare for start one, the latest coming over 1000m at Belmont when doing about his business quite nicely and looked to have something in hand to the eye. Draws well for the debut and Jerry Noske, who rode in the trial win, is on for the debut.
11 Demito (Bet Now: $151.00) is a very interesting runner. Daughter of Demerit for the Ian Shield stable that is having her first start. Interesting in the sense she has only had the one trial, which came back in January over 400m at Bunbury when running third. A potential lead is that McNaught has been booked to steer, so I think watch the market.
Race 2. (14:35) Ascend Sales Trophies (bm72+) 1300m
8 Windstorm (Bet Now: $1.18) looks the good thing of the program, again, like he was when giving them a spanking at this track/distance two weeks ago, putting them away with a fair amount of ease under Pike. He’s heading in the right direction and could well be a force come the Summer Carnival, so he should be winning again.
2 Military Ruler (Bet Now: $10.00) is on the seven day back up after resuming last Saturday over 1400m here, his first run in a year. He was near the speed throughout and though quickly beaten off by Showmanship, he didn’t turn it up and was really good in defeat. Interesting he backs up straight away. Runs well I think but doubt he wins.
Fitter and up to 1300m are two ticks for the Neville Parnham trained 3 War God (Bet Now: $19.00), who ran over 1200m here a fortnight ago where he was back near last in the run and given the race shape was never a winning factor but did make up ground very late behind Mankind. Not sure he beats these, but a must for multiples.
Race 3. (15:15) Tabtouch Westspeed (rs0mw) 1400m
A genuine wet track will be no issue for 6 Beat The Bell (Bet Now: $8.50). Sharon Miller trained mare that was heavily backed when racing over 1300m here last Wednesday when sitting back near last in a fast run race before peeling wider on the turn and finishing off with real purpose to get the job done. Up to 1400m isn’t an issue and is well in after the claim.
4 Bruce Almighty (Bet Now: $9.00) is a solid campaigner for Neville Parnham that should be suited back up to 1400m. Outclassed behind Showmanship at that trip two back before coming back to 1200m and running a game third to Captain Kink. Overall, this isn’t a strong race and I think 1400m at this level will be fine for him.
1 Deception Game (Bet Now: $23.00) is a son of Blackfriars that resumes for Adam Durrant. This four year old hasn’t raced since September 28 last year when down the track over the mile behind Beaucount after copping early interference in a total forgive run. Been given a good break and has had four trials to get ready, so I think watch the market.
Race 4. (15:55) Glenroy Chaff (bm62+) 1400m
Rare to see Team Williams back up seven days later so I think you have to take the lead hence 5 Bright Diamond (Bet Now: $2.00) is on top. Was on her last Saturday over 1200m and seemingly had her chance to pick up Mood Swings, but just lacked the turn of foot when required before picking up late and surging to just miss. Eats up 1400m based on that run and is clearly the one to beat.
2 Levitate (Bet Now: $2.20) is a little query at 1400m, a strong 1400m on wet ground, but he does have the Simon Miller polish and has the claim for Azzopardi. Ran over 1300m here two weeks ago where he seemed to get a sweet run near the speed under Pike but couldn’t get past a really nice horse in Indian Pacific, beaten a lip. Not sure he beats Bright Diamond but runs well all the same.
A rise in trip will certainly suit 3 Downforce (Bet Now: $46.00), who has run over 1000m in both runs back from a spell, the latest coming two weeks ago when lacking a turn of foot but was sound late behind She’s Enchanted. Jumping straight to 1400m is a little query but a rise in trip nonetheless is what he’s looking for.
Race 5. (16:42) Strickland Stakes 2000m
It’s all about 8 Mississippi Delta (Bet Now: $3.20) here. Perth Cup winner who has caught the eye in both runs this time in, the latest being the Hyperion two weeks ago when a closing third to the in form mare Perfect Jewel. Now gets to 2000m for the first time this prep and she’s a mare who likes getting her toe in, so the weather forecast for rain won’t hurt her chances.
No reason why 7 Perfect Jewel (Bet Now: $2.90) can’t win again. She’s been outstanding in the Belmont Sprint and Hyperion, winning them both at big odds but betting aside, she’s been impressive. Did run third over 2100m back in 2018, so the 2000m here should be fine and if this track has genuine give in it, she comes right into play.
This could well be the swansong for 1 Humidor (Bet Now: $16.00) if he doesn’t fire. Probably going to be best remembered for giving Winx a mighty scare in her third Cox Plate. He’s been a grand campaigner but the last 6-12 months, he’s done very little, and his two runs back have been plain, but they have been over unsuitable trips, so this is D-Day.
Race 6. (17:20) Schweppes (rs1mw) 1600m
5 Sublime Image (Bet Now: $5.50) on top. Adam Durrant trains this mare, who resumed over 1400m here two weeks ago where she paraded like she would need the run and that’s how it panned out, but I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat behind the promising Serenity Bay. Fitter and up to the mile, Pike back on, she rates highly.
Martin Knox is doing a really good job with 6 Cable Guy (Bet Now: $11.00). Ran at the midweeks over 1700m here back on June 10 where he was back near last in the run before peeling wide on the turn and gee he produced a strong finale to get up and score a rather impressive win. Interesting he comes back to 1600m but has to be respected.
The class of 1 Sentimental Gift (Bet Now: $9.50) can carry her a long way against these. Better suited over further and perhaps a race like the Kalgoorlie Cup is on the agenda for this mare. Staying mare that resumes here off the back of three impressive trials, so while 1600m is short of her best, she’s going well enough to run a forward race fresh.
Race 7. (17:50) Amelia Park (bm78+) 1000m
Going for a throw at the stumps with 12 Badge Of Courage (Bet Now: $18.00) for Luke Fernie. On the quick back up after racing at this track/distance last Saturday when wide no cover for the trip and battled away behind Cryptic Love. Has run well on the back up before and gets in very well after the claim. Think he’ll run a bold race at odds.
10 Hoboken (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Neville Parnham trained sprinter that is on the seven day back up after racing over this track/distance last Saturday when off the speed before Parnham sliced his way through and was there to threaten but couldn’t finish it off behind Cryptic Love. Wet ground is okay for him, hard fit and going well.
8 Guns Of Navarone (Bet Now: $7.00) is a beauty for Neville Parnham who was six weeks between runs when racing over 1000m here a few weeks ago when near the speed throughout and gave a good kick under Brad Parnham but just found one too good in Hoboken. Would clearly have him on top if it was a dry deck. Not sure about genuine wet ground at this level.
Race 8. (18:20) Crown Perth (rs1mw) 1000m
It’ll take a ripping ride from Pike to get her home, but 8 Devoted Star (Bet Now: $4.40) has a touch of class about her. Resumes for Team Williams having not raced since March 14 over 1200m at Ascot when a fast finishing third to the then in form Beauty Kanas. Yet to race at 1000m, but Lark Hill trial was good, stack of speed here, so she’ll get back and launch late.
3 Silkinize (Bet Now: $2.45) is a talented three year old that resumes for the David Harrison team. Have to go back to December 21 was when he last raced, which saw him down the track at Ascot behind Boomtastic, who at the time was highly promising. Liked the recent Lark Hill trial and Paul Harvey, who rode in the trial, sticks.
Think a fast run 1000m will sure 12 Pure Dynamite (Bet Now: $12.00), a Neville Parnham trained three year old that is first up, having not raced since April 11 at Ascot when down the track behind Son Of A God after racing a bit keen in the run. His best form has come at Belmont and his recent trial suggested he’s in for a good prep.
Race 9. (18:50) Vale Ron Nicol (bm66+) 2100m
I like that Pike takes the steer on the WA Oaks winner of last year, 3 Dark Choice (Bet Now: $4.60). Was five weeks between runs when racing over 2000m here a fortnight back where she was unwanted in betting but didn’t mind the way she finished her race off when fifth to Noir De Rue. Fitter and up in trip with Pike taking the ride, she’s likeable.
4 Kia Ora Star (Bet Now: $10.00) has the ability to take this out but his racing manners are becoming a bit costly. Forget he went around two back given he pulled his head off. Then went to the Noir De Rue race from two weeks back where he was there to beat the Warwick stayer but again, went a bit keen in the run and he had no petrol tickets to finish the job. Better racing manners and he can win.
10 Dark Prospect (Bet Now: $27.00) is out to a suitable trip for the first time this prep. Ran over 1400m here last Saturday where he was last throughout behind Showmanship and couldn’t fire a shot in a disappointing effort given he did run second to Showmanship the start prior. If you go off that run, he’d take a power of beating here.
