Nine races have been set down for Pakenham on Thursday for the Futures Stars Final Night. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (17:15) Helen Wratten Mdn Plate 2500m
The sharp rise in trip I find interesting for 4 Killarney (Bet Now: $SP.00) but I am convinced he has the engine under the hood to win a race and the depth here isn’t overly deep. He resumed last Thursday night over the mile here where he was tardy away, spotted those in front too much head start but kept finding the line. Like him up to 2500m and will take a power of beating against these.
11 Baffleck (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the key prospects. Debuted over the mile here and did more than enough in defeat. He then went to 2000m at Yarra Valley when off speed and was good late in the piece when third to Papal Army. Maps to get a sweet run in transit and I think 2500m is fine.
1 Amawasha (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the Jarrod Robinson polish, a camp that loves a stayer. He did more than enough fresh at Hanging Rock before going to 2000m at Kilmore when off speed and worked to the line well enough in defeat when third to Psychotic. 2500m is fine and strikes a winnable race.
Race 2. (17:45) Kevin King Mdn Plate 1400m
11 Vivacissimo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver up in trip for Team Hayes. She debuted over 1200m here when down the track behind Astral Flame but I will say she was in the worst going so I am going to be quite forgiving of the run. Like her up to 1400m and has upside/progression vs most.
8 Pulsating (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect for the Corstens/Larkin camp after resuming over 1200m here when just off the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when fourth to Time Lapse. Fitter and up in trip, she strikes a winnable race.
3 One Special Girl (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a query at 1400m but isn’t racing too bad at present. She ran over 1200m at Kilmore last time out when near the speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite get there when third to Holinherre. On breeding, 1400m is fine, and does get Ben Melham.
Race 3. (18:15) Frank Tyler Mdn Plate 1000m
3 Steel Move (Bet Now: $SP.00) to make a winning debut. James Cummings trained gelding that trialled just fair in Sydney during the Winter. Spelled, sent to Flemington and his two jumpouts have been more than encouraging, the latest seeing him win. Maps to land on speed and prove hard to get past.
1 Factcheck (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He returns to racing as a gelding for Robbie Laing, his latest run coming on July 6 at Flemington when placing down the straight behind Aldolfito. Just one jumpout to get ready but looks to have talent so watch betting.
4 Ziplining (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with her best. He resumed over this trip at Wangaratta where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat. Tricky draw but does get Melham on. Big improver.
Race 4. (18:45) Lori Newman Mdn Plate 1200m
4 Bologna Baby (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a massive price for me. Grahame Begg trained mare that resumes, having not raced since Aug 12 on the Synthetic here over the mile when off speed and kept chasing with purpose when second to Fulmem Filou. 1200m is on the short side but her jumpout work has been strong and stable is humming at present.
10 Heavenly Shades (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a talented filly for Moody/Coleman that resumes. She hasn’t raced since her debut back in October at Mornington when last off speed and worked home well enough in defeat behind the Stakes performed Certain Rise. Two jumpouts under the belt, B Shinn booked…rates highly.
9 Enchanted Jenni (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. Formerly with Team Hayes, she now finds herself with David Noonan, a stable that has a decent enough record with tried horses. Her form reads well enough for this kind of race and her trial/jumpout work has been encouraging.
Race 5. (19:15) Fiona Jeffrey (Bm64) 2000m
9 Burlington Gate (Bet Now: $SP.00) doesn’t win out of turn but gee she looks well placed. Moroney/Thompson trained mare that ran at Caulfield Heath last time when off speed and worked home with real purpose late in the piece behind Shanwah, who was impressive in the Autumn Classic last Saturday when winning. That reads so well for this and with normal luck, she’s the one to beat.
10 Saveadateforme (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran second to Shanwah in the race mentioned above. He too got a fair way out of his ground but worked to the line strongly enough in defeat when second. The form has been ticked off and if the gate can be used to advantage, he takes beating.
5 Move On In (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver at odds for Price/Kent. Aussie debut came over the mile at Seymour where he go too far out of his ground and just looked in need of the run. He has solid UK form at 2000m+ and with enormous upside, I wouldn’t be dismissing him.
Race 6. (19:45) David Harrison (Bm64) 1200m
8 Excelindeed (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top. GaiBott trained three year old that comes here off the back of a dominant win at Seymour last time when leading throughout and gave nothing else a look in, winning impressively and did beat a nice horse in Markdel. Lands in front here and takes running down.
2 Stormbourg (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a John Moloney trained gelding that resumes. His last run came in the VOBIS Gold Carat at The Valley when outclassed but far from disgraced in defeat behind Just For Show. Looks to have jumped out well enough to my eye and should get run of the race.
7 Alaa Plenty (Bet Now: $SP.00) took a little while to break the maiden tag for Moody/Coleman but that maiden win came at Seymour last time when on speed throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but found under pressure to fend them off and win. One for exotics from the kind draw.
Race 7. (20:15) Michael Spencer (Bm64) 1200m
3 Extremely Rowdy (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a bit on these re class and this field has been hit hard by scratchings. She resumes for Peter Gelagotis off the back of two impressive jumpouts here. She does go well fresh, in nicely after the claim and gee her form just reads so well for a race like this.
4 Kyle (Bet Now: $SP.00) hasn’t quite lived up to the hype from the jumpouts but third up from a spell, he should be hard fit and does get the kind hands of Jamie Melham. He ran over 1200m at Srympur last time when on speed and was hailed as the winner for a few strides, but was nabbed late. Has that 1200m run under the belt, which should hold her in good stead.
1 Lulu Darling (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks ready to go to run a bold race fresh. Michael Huglin trained mare that resumes, having not raced since Oct 30 at Bendigo when racing over 1400m and just looked a tired horse behind Yellow Sam. She does go well fresh and her jumpout work has been strong.
Race 8. (20:45) Sportsbet Future Stars Series Final (C3) 1400m
2 Untapped (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good thing for mine. I think he is a very nice horse for Greg Eurell that is off a freshen up, winning two on the bounce over 1200m and 1400m here respectively, the latest win being on Jan 23. Went like a rocket in a Cranbourne jumpout last week and despite the gate, I am keen to play.
4 Gala Queen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Phillip Stokes trained filly that has an engine under the hood. 2/2 this time in, both over 1200m at Pakenham. Latest win was in inferior ground in the straight, yet she let down with purpose the last 100m to win and win well. The rise to 1400m is ideal and hard to knock a filly that is unbeaten this prep.
3 Preservator (Bet Now: $SP.00) is absolutely flying and has to be included in exotics. He got his way into this race off the back of a win two weeks back here over 1400m, finishing best and confirming the good runs leading in. I doubt he wins but is a must for exotics.
Race 9. (21:15) Sportsbet More Places (Bm64) 1000m
3 Bifrost (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a big price and happy to speck in the get out. He resumes for Team Browne, having not raced since Melbourne Cup Day when leading in the Subzero and tiring late behind Cloudland. That form clearly reads well for this and his jumpout work has been excellent.
7 Appointed (Bet Now: $SP.00) hasn’t done much wrong in two runs this prep for Team Freedman and is one of the key chances. Caught the eye fresh at The Valley behind Documentary (won since) befoer going to Caulfield Heath where he looked a good thing and duly saluted. Jamie sticks and strikes a winnable race.
9 Toronado Boom (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Scott Cameron trained gelding that resumes. He hasn’t raced since Sep 27 at Benalla when back and failed to get involved behind Kingwell. He has had three jumpouts to get ready for the return so the grounding is there. Knockout hope.
