Doomben is where QLD racing heads to on Monday. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (14:34) Become A BRC Member Maiden 2040m
Landed with 12 Alecia (Bet Now: $SP.00) but not really a race I want to get involved in. This filly has run third her past three runs, the latest run being over 2150m at Ipswich when on speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Back in trip, good racing style, she’ll take beating.
14 Wimoweh (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like a rise in trip will suit. This filly has raced over the mile in recent times, with her last start resulting in a close up second at the Sunny Coast Poly, sitting off speed and drove hard late to just miss. Maps to do no work and be strong late.
6 Trusty Bandit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a knockout hope. Ridden too warm at Toowoomba two back in a total forgive. He then went to Gatton when ridden stone cold and he reacted, getting back to near last but finished off with real purpose late. The rise in trip is fine, provided he is ridden cold, and this isn’t a deep contest.
Race 2. (15:12) Souths Sports Club Maiden Handicap 1110m
Landed with 5 Warrior Head (Bet Now: $SP.00) but this race has thinned right out after scratchings. He resumes for Team Sears, having not raced since Aug 3 here when far from disgraced in a solid 3YO race won by Moulin Miss. Trialled very well and will be stronger than most late.
9 Blue Moves (Bet Now: $SP.00) will land on speed and run a decent race, which is what she has done for most of her career. She ran over 1100m at the Sunny Coast Poly last time when on speed throughout and was there to win but just found one better. Good racing style, she’ll give herself every chance.
2 Gold Fever (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip after resuming over 1000m at the Sunny Coast Poly. He got back off the speed and was chasing from a fair way out but he ran through the pain barrier and kept finding the line in a pretty good effort. Doubt he wins, but can run first four.
Race 3. (15:48) Girls Day Out March 1 Handicap (75) 1640m
2 Expectant (Bet Now: $SP.00) gets the nod for me. John Thomas trained gelding that was an impressive winner at Ipswich two back before going to the mile at Eagle Farm where he was one of the eye catchers of the race in defeat I thought behind Torabella. Has run well at this track/distance previously and if within range, he has the finale to take this out.
1 Texas (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win again. He ran over 1690m at Ipswich last start where he got off speed and chased strongly but just couldn’t quite get there when a close up third to Master Copy. Not the best of records at Doomben but he is racing very well and strikes a winnable race.
6 Flamingo Beach (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Tarzino that resumes for Lindsay Gough. He resumes, having not raced since July 21 at the Sunny Coast when looking to make it three on the bounce but after leading, he tired behind Glen Massey. Trialled well enough and with his racing style, will give himself every chance.
Race 4. (16:27) XXXX Gold Handicap (Class 1) 1640m
8 Lupine (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top at an each way price. Mark Currie trains this former Henry Dwyer gelding. He was a few weeks between runs and back in trip when racing over 1400m at Gatton, getting back off the speed and found the line strongly in defeat when third. Fitter now and up in trip, he’ll take beating.
1 Ichiban (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a better horse than what his winning strike rate would suggest. He ran over the mile on the Sunny Coast Poly last time where he landed on speed and seemingly had every chance but couldn’t quite finish the job. Think with a patient steer, that is his best chance of winning.
5 Vredefort (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one with scope compared to most here. Both career outings have come on the home deck at the Sunny Coast, debuting with an eye catching effort over 1400m before stepping up to the mile on the Poly where he gave them a start and a beating to win and win well. Think he can measure up here.
Race 5. (17:05) Stradbroke Season Handicap (62) 1110m
11 Try Everything (Bet Now: $SP.00) each way for me here in what looks a thin 62. She ran over 1300m at Toowoomba last time when off speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Chinchilla Ahead. Back to a fast run 1110m suits and with Blinkers on, I think she’ll run really well.
8 Mercian (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong this time in for Lindsay Gough and rates highly. Both runs this time in have come over 1000m at the Sunny Coast, resuming with a win. He then raced on Boxing Day and tried hard but just couldn’t quite finish the job. Hard fit, good racing style, rates highly.
13 Salt Lake Betty (Bet Now: $SP.00) is suited back to 1110m I feel after racing over 1200m at Eagle Farm last time when leading and giving a decent kick but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Good racing style and if she can find the top, she takes running down.
Race 6. (17:43) Sky Racing Handicap (Class 4) 1350m
4 Bandasha (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to have returned well and should take beating here after racing over 1400m at Eagle Farm last time. He got into a decent spot from the inside gate and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through when third to Treporti. Should be strong at the end and strikes a winnable race.
6 Tannenburg (Bet Now: $SP.00) is third up from a spell and should just about be at peak fitness. Latest run came at the Sunny Coast where he seemed to have his chance but it was a strong race won by a good horse, Redford. Back to this depth of race, kind map, big improver.
5 Super Chilled (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Chris Waller trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Oct 12 at Eagle Farm when back off the speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Hyde. Better suited over further, not a noted fresh horse but has trialled up very well for the return.
Race 7. (18:20) Ladbrokes Handicap (60) 1350m
8 Keep Safe (Bet Now: $SP.00) for me in the get out. Rob Heathcoate trained gelding that comes here as a last start winner over 1200m at Ipswich when landed on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and away she went to win and win well. Up to 1350m, off a win, he takes a power of beating.
14 Mist Of Dawn (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the key threats. Chris Anderson trained mare that resumed over 1200m at Eagle Farm when back off the speed and finished off her race strongly in defeat behind the in form Caspernova. Race has thinned out after scratchings, so she’s hard to beat.
1 Change The Date (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the omen bet and he’s a big price if you are that sort of punter. He attempted to lead throughout at Coffs last time and gave a decent kick, just feeling the pinch late. If he gets front end control, he’ll run a bold race at odds.
