26/12/2024 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Morphettville, Boxing Day races

Morphettville Parks will play host to an eight race card on Thursday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out nine metres from the 1000m-400m; Out seven metres for the remainder.

2 Savatoff (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise back up in trip. He was 2200m back to 1800m when racing on the course proper here last time out when off the speed and kept chasing in a pretty good effort in defeat behind Enlist, finishing third. Back up in trip, he appeals.

4 American Trouble (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here as a last start winner and with that, she has to be respected. Not sure she beat a great deal at Oakbank last time but credit to her, she led throughout and was quite impressive in the run to the line. If she gets front end control here, she’ll take beating.

6 Whisky Sour (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is one of the key threats. Darryl Carrison trained gelding that ran over 1800m at Murray Bridge a few weeks back where he got off the speed and while he was never a winning threat, he kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat behind Prickly Poppy. The rise in trip I see as a positive and he gets a big jockey upgrade with Nunes taking over.

6 La Roux (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a pretty sharp juvenile for Phillip Stokes that is on debut. She was sharp in a jumpout win in August but was spelled. She has come back and has had two jumpouts this time in, the latest seeing her win at Pakenham and seemed to move quite well. Looks a good conveyance and strikes a winnable race for the debut.

5 Eagerly Awaits (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Written Tycoon filly for Price/Kent that is on debut. This filly has had a couple of jumpouts at Cranbourne in readiness for start one, the latest seeing her run second over 800m and seemed to move well enough to my eye. Tricky draw, but I think will press forward and be around the mark.

2 Oldpop (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the raceday experience under the belt, which holds him in good stead. He debuted over this track/distance a few weeks ago where he was near the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite finish the job when third. Maps ideally and gets the Blinkers on.

3 Secret Wonder (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a pretty nice horse for Team Jolly and despite debuting in a 64, I think it can be a winning debut. He trialled officially here back in August and gee he moved like a nice horse in winning. The time off I find interesting but the fact he debuts here and not a maiden tells me there is intent.

4 Cosmic Ride (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a short course specialist and comes to town off the back of a maiden win at Balaklava where she got into a decent spot in transit near the speed before being clicked up and she found late under pressure to fend them off and win. Suited to the 1000m here and with the Price/Kent polish, commands respect.

1 Dyer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been a shade disappointing this time in but a fast run 1000m and 3kg claim can see him bounce back. He ran over 1100m at Gawler last time when off the speed and was tracking into the race but couldn’t quite finish off and was on the plain side late in the piece. If they overdo it on speed, he’ll be strongest late.

10 Miss Rubick (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the each way play for me here in a thin maiden. She has been pretty good in two runs back from a spell, resuming with an eye catching effort over 1200m at Clare before going to 1200m on the course proper here where she got a fair way out of her ground but really liked the way she finished her race off in defeat. The rise to 1550m is ideal and gets a big jockey upgrade.

3 In That Mode (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the odds on favourite and is hard to beat. He ran over 1500m at Gawler last time out when on speed and he tried hard to reel them in but couldn’t quite get there when second to Commissions, who probably would be favourite here if he lined up, so that form reads well.

5 Swissta (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1550m after racing over 1200m in a maiden on the course proper when wide with cover, off the speed, and while he was never threatening, he kept on and was quite good in defeat behind Bad Detective. The rise in trip should be ideal and this race isn’t overly deep.

4 Petrol Head (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is each way for me here. Team Jolly trained gelding that debuted over 1100m at Gawler where he was raw and new to the caper, getting a fair way out of his ground and was never really a threat when down the track behind Prancethrulife. Maps to settle much closer in the run and with Blinkers back on, he takes beating at odds.

13 Labushagne (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is an improver for Team Oxlade. This gelding debuted over 1200m at Murray Bridge where he got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and wasn’t too bad in defeat. Fitter, can settle closer, dangerous.

5 Sea Roads (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of Deep Field that resumes for Phillip Stokes. He hasn’t raced since his debut at Murray Bridge back in July when back, wide with cover, and was never a factor when down the track behind Mesrour. Trial at Strathalbyn was good and maps to do no work.

I think with a positive ride, 1 Oakland Raider (Bet Now:  $SP.00) can bounce back. He ran over this track/distance last time out where he got ridden stone cold, dragged back for a sit, a drag into the race, and it just didn’t eventuate for him when down the track behind Cool Magnum. Think if ridden with intent, leading, he takes running down.

5 Intacto (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is knocking on the door for Richards/Moyle. This mare ran over 1050m on the course proper here when off the speed and kept chasing in a really good effort when a narrow second to Fine Future. Gets run of the race from the gate and strikes a winnable race.

4 Lunessa (Bet Now:  $SP.00) lands on speed and takes running down. She ran fourth in the Fine Future race mentioned above, landing near the front, and she tried her guts out, but just couldn’t quite see it through and felt the pinch late. If she gets a decent run near the front, she’ll run a bold race at odds.

7 Merchelle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks the winner if she’s ready to go. She is second up for the Bain/Taylor camp after formerly being with Team Kavanagh. The resumption came over 1200m on the course proper here when off the speed and chased with purpose in a really good return behind Miss Remski. Maps ideally, good upside, keen to be with her.

3 Hallstatt (Bet Now:  $SP.00) will likely spot them a start but should be strong late, as seen at Gawler last time behind stablemate The Stalker. The race shape/track pattern was against him but I really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat. If he can settle closer in the run, he’s certainly dangerous.

1 Lunar Solar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing at Murray Bridge on Saturday where he was one of the eye catchers of the meeting I thought, getting back to near last in the run but worked home with real purpose behind impressive winner Jazz Affair. If he’s within range, he has the finale to win.

All you can do is win and that is what 9 Balistique (Bet Now:  $SP.00) did on debut. That came over 1350m at Strathalbyn where she got better as the race went on, knuckling down strongly late to win and win well. More depth here, but she is a horse with upside/timing, whereas the rest have either found their level or on the decline.

2 Southern Shooter (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has returned well for Travis Doudle. Narrow but strong win fresh at Gawler before going to Murray Bridge when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort behind Galactic Fury. Hard fit now and up in trip, he appeals.

3 Kayseri (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is getting on in years but he is racing with a zest still. He ran over 1400m here last time out and I thought was pretty good from back in the field, closing off nicely behind the very much in form mare Seeking Stardom. If he can settle closer, he’s dangerous at odds.

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 3 Secret Wonder

LONG SHOT: Race Four Number 10 Miss Rubick
