Summer Cup ๐: View the Field and Odds for the Summer Cup
Race 1. (13:35) Inglis Millennium Day 10 Feb Mdn Hcp 1400m
4 Le Chocolat (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks the straight bat play to my eye. Chris Waller seemingly has a strong hand in this race but I do think this is his #1 seed. This guy had a three run Winter prep to start his career and each time he went pretty good, the latest over 1550m here behind subsequent Stakes winner Raf Attack. Trial work has been strong and if he can use the inside gate to advantage, he’ll take beating.
7 Listentozou (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He returns to racing as a gelding for Chris Waller after promising to be a good horse as a 2YO, so much so that the stable thought he was one of their top Slipper contenders but he was a colt and had his mind elsewhere. Gelded, trialled up well enough to my eye and 1400m fresh tells me there is intent, so watch the market.
6 Big Shot Legend (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) resumes for Chris Waller and I think in this small field, he could well be a knockout chance. He debuted at Newcastle over 1250m during the Winter and was pretty good from off the speed albeit wasn’t threatening. Trial work has been encouraging, I’d watch the market and see what it does.
Race 2. (14:10) Buy An Arrowfield Graduate Super Mdn Plate 1600m
1 Booster Shot (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps each way. Son of Pierro for John Sargent that has been solid in two career outings, both races on tight tracks where he has got back each time and found the line well without threatening. He’ll love getting to 1600m on the big track and with a drag into the race, I think he’ll be quite effective at the end.
9 Northern Eyes (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is ready to win it seems like. Chris Waller trained galloper that has placed his past couple, the latest over 1550m at Canterbury when seemingly having every chance but just couldn’t quite get there. Tricky gate, but he’s nearing that maiden win and it could come here.
8 Jacob’s Time (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in distance for Ryan/Alexiou. He debuted over 1400m on the Kenso when back off the speed and was never a winning threat but made up headway and was a definite pass mark in defeat behind Zouphora, who won again to frank the form. Tick over trial was good and he’ll love the extra 200m.
Race 3. (14:45) Drinkwise Mdn Plate 1200m
10 Xidaki (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks one of the better bets on the program. Son of Zoustar that resumes, having not raced since his debut at Wyong where he was a bit lost on the turn but balanced up in the straight and was pretty good in defeat Balkans, a subsequent Stakes performer. He went like a jet in a recent Hawkesbury trial and with luck from the gate, I am keen on him powering over the top of these.
3 Hanau (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a Snitzel galloper resuming for James Cummings and returns to racing as a gelding. He had a two run Winter prep to start his career, his best effort being at start two when second at Kembla behind Pushy, a Stakes class horse. Three trials to get ready, I’d watch the market and see what it does.
5 Not So Common (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a son of Tivaci for GaiBott that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since May 17 when debuting at Ipswich, landing wide no cover on speed and just feeling the pinch late but the run in defeat was full of merit behind Boomster. Trial work to get ready has been encouraging, he’ll land on speed and prove hard to get past.
Race 4. (15:20) Toyota Forklifts (Bm72) 1400m
4 Miss Faberge (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket for John Sargent. This mare has returned in pretty good order. Latest run came over 1400m on the Kenso where she tried her guts out but couldn’t quite get the win when second to in form mare Bowery Breeze. Maps to get an ideal run in transit and the depth here isn’t overly deep.
10 Very Sewreel (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks the likely leader and she’ll take running down, especially if she gets control in front. She led throughout to break her maiden on the Kenso last time and credit to her, she was there to be run down but she found under pressure and was strong to the line in winning. Down in the weights, leads, hard to get past.
5 Sophia’s Magic (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a Charm Spirit mare for Chris Waller that resumes. This mare is first up, having not raced since August 30 when somewhat on the plain side at Warwick Farm and it was more or less an end of prep run behind Eastern Glow. She is a mare who is capable on the fresh side and maps to do no work. One for multiples.
Race 5. (16:00) Tab (Bm72) 1500m
2 Tympanist (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks the straight bat option. David Payne has got this guy racing in a purple patch, winning two back on the Kenso before racing here in a Midway where he kept finding the line in a good effort, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Vegas Outlaw. Back in trip I find interesting but the depth here, on the whole, is thin. Hard to beat.
7 Atlantic Ocean (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it for Chris Waller. He is over a month between runs since winning at Warwick Farm, getting a lovely steer from Clark from off the speed to angle clear late and finish best. Hard to catch but off a win, he commands respect.
Fitter and up to 1500m are two big ticks for 6 Monfelicity (Bet Now:ย $SP.00). This mare resumed over 1400m here against the Mares where she paraded like she would need the run and that is how it panned out but she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Zouphora. She is a second up winner, she gets a rise in trip…don’t dismiss her.
Race 6. (16:40) All Too Hard @ Vinery Stud (Bm72) 1000m
Tricky race but leaning towards 4 Border Control (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) for Adam Duggan. He ran under the lights at Canterbury last time when near the speed throughout and fought on courageously in defeat but just couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Oxford Vision. Tricky gate to overcome but is hard fit, in form and has a good racing style.
3 Prince Invincible (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) has the Sara Ryan polish and Sara Ryan might as well change her name to Sara Copperfield because she well and truly has the magic touch at the moment. This horse resumed in the Oxford Vision race mentioned above when a bit keen in the run being first up and I reckon it took something away from his finale behind the Kim Waugh galloper. Better for the run under the belt, he appeals.
2 Delexo (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is a 1000m horse so returning to that trip here, I think he’s a big improver. He ran over 1200m at Eagle Farm last time out and ran well enough but just found the six furlongs a bridge too far. Back to 1000m is a big tick, he maps to get a sweet run in transit and his best is clearly good enough.
Race 7. (17:20) Summer Cup 2000m
I am convinced that 1 Huetor (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is flying and with class on his side, I think he’s a great bet here. He ran several weeks ago in the Champion Stakes at Flemington and I thought he was a real eye catcher from the back behind Atishu. Was down to run at Caulfield in the Zipping Classic but was scratched and returns to Sydney for this. So well placed.
5 Lion’s Roar (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is flying for John O’She and deserves a Stakes win. He ran over the mile here last time in The Ingham and was very good from off the speed, closing off with purpose late when third to Loch Eagle. He’s racing as if he will eat up 2000m and if he can settle closer in the run, he’ll take a power of beating.
4 Dark Destroyer (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is suited up in trip. He comes through The Ingham where he got too far back in the run and was never really threatening behind Loch Eagle. Getting towards peak fitness and up in trip, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 8. (18:00) Gordon's Pink Gin (Bm64) 1200m
3 Tannenburg (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks to go pretty good to my eye and potentially can put his hand up for the Magic Millions with a win here. He was a real eye catcher on debut at Gosford before racing under the lights at Canterbury where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late to finish over the top. Good speed in front, upside, Waller polish…keen on his prospects.
17 Spring Lee (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) is similar to Tannenburg. Lightly raced and showing good promise. She resumed over 1000m at Kembla where she landed 1/1 before edging wider into clear air and gee she let down like a nice horse to win by a space and run time. Good test here against some likely types but she is well and truly one herself.
4 Accredited (Bet Now:ย $SP.00) looks suited up to 1200m for Joe Pride. Class got him home fresh before going here where he was very flat footed when the sprint went on but he picked up and was solid to the line. He’ll love more ground and be strong at the end.
