Morphettville is where SA racing heads to this Boxing Day. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out ten metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:52) Furphy Handicap (68) 1536m
2 Seeking Glory (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks hard to beat here for Travis Doudle. This mare has been solid her past few runs, the latest being at Morphettville several weeks ago in a Country Final over the mile when far from disgraced in defeat behind the in form mare Midnight Mass, finishing third. Like her slightly back in trip and the depth here is nowhere near as deep. Hard to beat.
3 More Reward (Bet Now: $SP.00) will appreciate a rise in trip. She resumed over 1200m last Saturday at Gawler and just needed the run when down the track behind Exalted Dame, finding her rivals a tad more sharp. Much better suited here with a rise in trip, the run under the belt, and you’d struggle to find a more in form apprentice nation wide than Maggie Collett.
1 Dixie Whistler (Bet Now: $SP.00) stays at 1500m which I find interesting but she is the class of the field being a proven Saturday metro performer. She resumed in a strong 78 last Saturday at Gawler and while she was safely held, I thought she was far from disgraced in defeat behind Montign, who would be $1.50 against these. If staying at the trip is not an issue, then she is in with a serious winning chance.
Race 2. (13:27) SkyCity Plate 1100m
1 Dancing Storm (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the straight bat option for Team Jolly. This gelding debuted here just over two weeks ago where he kept chasing from off the speed but found one better in Wolfgang, a Victorian who is above average. He gets Blinkers on now, the depth isn’t strong and with natural improvement from the debut, he’ll take beating here.
6 Mondello (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a nice filly to my eye. Stablemate of Dancing Storm who has had a couple of jumpouts to get ready for the debut and each time she has impressed, moving with purpose and something up the sleeve. Not sure she is good enough to beat the stablemate but I think it would be best to watch the market and see what it does.
3 Bad To The Bone (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one I can entertain for exotics. This guy debuted in the Wolfgang race mentioned above where he was last in the small field and did make up ground without threatening behind the Victorian juvenile. I doubt he beats Dancing Storm but I’d say is a lock to run top four.
Race 3. (14:02) Adelaide Cup Day Maiden Plate 1200m
7 Cuban Waters (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. Searle/Callinan trained mare that looks to be in for a good prep based on her resumption here just over two weeks ago when off the speed before being presented wider and loomed but couldn’t quite finish it off when third to Sportsbeat. Better for the run under the belt, ideal map, happy to be in her corner.
9 Noitulover (Bet Now: $SP.00) is knocking on the door to win her maiden for Matty Seyers. This mare ran two back at Gawler where she was on speed throughout and seemingly was trucking but she just couldn’t quite finish the race off and was run down late by the well tried Pulambi, before an okay effort here in a maiden last Friday behind Manuka Bay. 1200m is a slight query, but with her racing pattern, she’ll give herself every chance.
4 Morris Minor (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks like he has talent. He ran last Friday in a maiden at this track/distance when on debut and I thought he was far from disgraced in defeat when third Manuka Bay. Gets in really well after the 3kg claim and he finds a race where the depth isn’t overly deep. Commands respect.
Race 4. (14:37) Adelaide Galvanising Industries Handicap (62) 1536m
1 Cullen Skink (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be winning. Clarken/O’Shea trained gelding that resumed at Strathalbyn over 1200m where he gave them a start and a beating, launching late from off the speed to win narrowly but impressively. He’ll love getting to 1500m, he has more upside than most and will be strong at the end.
3 Imposing Suspect (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hit and miss at times but his best is clearly good enough to take this out. His last couple of runs have come at Gawler, winning well two back before racing last Satruday where he was a bit on the plain side and seemingly had every chance when fifth to Bamyan Buddha. Off the win, he can take this out.
2 Free Vino (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous with his best. He is several weeks between runs since racing on the Parks track at Morphettville when back off the speed and failed to make up any real headway in a plain effort behind Branders Rule. He has only won the one race but that doesn’t reflect his true ability so I think watch the market and see what it does.
Race 5. (15:12) The Fotobase Group Maiden Plate 1600m
9 Cararada (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top but it’s a nothing race. John Hyam trained mare that ran over the mile at Murray Bridge where she was on speed throughout and tried her guts out but couldn’t quite finish it off when second to a handy horse, Karaka Kiwi. She has that hard 1600m run under the belt, which should hold her in good stead for this.
6 Proven Correct (Bet Now: $SP.00) jumps straight to the mile but he’s racing as if he will be fine for it. He has had two runs back from a spell both at 1200m. Latest was here last Friday when chasing strongly from a three wide position, finishing second to Mighty Sapphire. Being by Justify, he’ll eat up 1600m and with luck in running, he’s hard to beat.
4 Bush Influence (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise in trip. He resumed over 1350m at Strathalbyn where he got back to near last in the run and did make up headway but was never really a threat behind Even Sharper. Not sure he’s good enough to win, I don’t think, but with good upside to come, he’s a must for exotics.
Race 6. (15:52) Grand Syndicates Handicap (Class 2) 1050m
1 Kalasec (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the most likely for Team Jolly. He ran just over two weeks ago here over 1200m when racing on a bog and he tried his guts out but he struggled in the conditions late in the piece behind Le Defense. Back on firmer footing, back in trip and back in depth, I think he’s extremely hard to beat provided there is petrol left in the tank.
2 Vintage Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) is 2/2 this time in for Team Jolly and heading in the right direction. Strong first up winner of a 900m maiden at Murray Bridge before going to 1000m on the Parks track where he got the A1 run in transit and the ride from Tomlinson was a big reason why he got the win. Harder here but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
7 Vexatious Dancer (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in a three start career and rates highly. This filly won two back and placed last time out at Gawler but each run, she has been wide and no cover, doing a stack of work, so she has a fair amount of ticker about her and I think she’s dangerous if she can get a more economical run in transit.
Race 7. (16:32) Croser Handicap (0MW) 1200m
6 Roulette Queen (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the way I am leaning. Michael Hickmott trained mare that has had two runs back from a spell. Thought she was a definite pass mark here fresh behind Lady Simone on Cup Day before going to 1200m at Gawler where she gave them a start and a beating in an impressive display. That last run was on November 29 but she does seem to race well on the fresh side so the break between runs is fine. Hard to beat.
2 Chill With Teejay (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and she can certainly go on with it for Peter Hardacre. She was a little while out of the winners list but that all changed last time at Mount Gambier, giving them a start and a beating, sustaining the run to get the job done. Proven metro performer, she commands respect.
4 Willaston (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks to be in for a good prep for Ryan Balfour. Market took a set against him when resuming here at the Twilight meeting but nobody told the horse that as he sat on speed and proved quite strong to the line in winning. Good upside to come, good racing style, he appeals.
Race 8. (17:12) Quayclean Handicap (68) 2500m
4 Pointless Praise (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a big dope. He has talent but mentally, he is a thinker, so the Blinkers being applied looks a big tick for him. Last start saw him win over 2200m at Balaklava where he got stronger as the race went on to win and win well. Off that, 2500m should be no issue and in a winnable race, I am happy to be in his corner.
1 Manzala (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the class of the field and class will carry him a long way here. He is over four weeks between runs since winning the Skybeau Final at this track/distance, lapping up a truly run 2500m and gee he was strong to the line in winning. Creeps up in the weights but the depth here is nowhere near as deep.
2 Canford (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a hard horse to catch at times but if this becomes a slog, he’ll be there late. Forgive the last start run behind Hasta La Fiorente given it was a sit/sprint and that set up for a backmarker on a bog track…he had no hope so forgive and forget. Prior efforts were sound so don’t dismiss him.
Race 9. (17:52) Fleurieu Milk Company Handicap (Class 1) 1100m
4 Baby Alex (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a handy mare for Andrew Clarken that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since October last year when down the track at Morphettville behind subsequent Stakes performer Grey River. Long time off so has clearly had issues but her jumpout work has been impressive, she’ll roll forward and I think take running down.
8 Manuka Bay (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found that winning form again and he can certainly go on with it. That win came over 1200m here where he landed on sped and despite being out of petrol tickets late, he had enough in hand to score. Back to 1100m I do like and with his racing style, he’ll give himself every chance.
7 Tres Belle (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a daughter of Ilovethiscity for Ryan Balfour that resumes. This mare is first up, having not raced since September 9 on the Parks track when back in the field and made up minimal headway behind Kiliako. 1/1 on the course proper here and her best is good enough to be dangerous. Watch the market.
