Boxing Day racing in Sydney heads to Randwick where eight races have been set down. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

7 Skylon (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks a big price here I feel. He ran over 1350m at Wyong on Magic Millions Day where he got a fair way out of his ground and was racing tight between runners but was very good late behind Wild Irish Rover. Think he’ll love getting to the mile on the bigger track and gets a significant jockey change with Ben Melham aboard. I think he should be single figures, not $13+.

11 Maritima (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a stablemate of Skylon that is knocking on the door to break the maiden tag. Got a fair way back last time at Canterbury and was never a threat but was good to the line when second to another stbalemate, Super Chilled. Maps to do no work in the run, can settle closer from the good draw and should prove hard to beat.

13 Kingston Charm (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks an improver for John Thompson. Last couple of runs have come at 1400m, the latest being at Canberra. Jumped well but from the wide gate was eased for cover and got back. Was never really a threat but didn’t mind the way she finished her race off behind The Carpet Bagger. Can settle much closer in the run from the draw and the extra 200m should suit.

9 Marelle (Bet Now:  $SP.00) on top for me. Chris Waller trained filly that resumed on the Kenso track where she looked a good thing on paper and with a positive ride on speed, she looked the winner but just lacked the change up speed to put them away and was only beaten a lip in a blanket finish. Think she’ll land on speed comfortably here and with the run under the belt, she’ll take beating.

7 Asva (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has been crying out for more ground this prep and he gets it here. Warmed up nicely late fresh at 1250m at Canterbury before staying at that same track/distance and just ground to the line, looking like a horse wanting further. He gets to 1400m here and gets to a bigger track, so both are big ticks for him. Getting towards D-Day but is one of the main contenders.

3 Sweysive (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks an improver for Bjorn Baker. He ran last Saturday in a fast run maiden at Newcastle on the Beaumont track and despite doing a bit wrong under pressure, he found the line strongly when second to Cadetship, who had run well in town prior. That was at 1200m and he should eat up 1400m on the bigger track. On the up, hard to beat I’d suggest.

4 Himalaism (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has had a few chances to break the maiden tag but this does look a very winnable maiden. Few weeks between runs since racing at Canterbury where he got off the speed and kept finding the line under pressure in a good effort when second to Glint Of Silver. If Melham can get three wide cover from the gate, I do think he is the one to beat.

8 Ramones (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has SP profile to command respect. He was smashed in betting when resuming over 1000m at Wyong but was tardy away and that sealed his fate, sitting four wide no cover for the trip and tiring late when down the track in a total forgive. I suspect the handle bars will be down to try and find the front here and he’ll take running down if he finds the front and gets control.

17 Mills (Bet Now:  $SP.00) looks an improver for Team Hawkes. Was keen in the run when resuming at Warwick Farm but despite that, she showed good change up speed and loomed but the final 200m, she knocked up, with condition giving out. You’d like to think there is room for improvement and maps to do no work in the run. Her best is good enough to be dangerous.

1000m horse in a 1000m race is the set up for 1 Delexo (Bet Now:  $SP.00) and at his best, he has a bit on these, so I’ll take a chance on him. Normally he’s a jump/run type but recent starts have seen him sit last and spot them way too much head start. Last run was December 3 and he’s been tuned up for this with a lovely trial at Wyong. Barrier extension to help him jump clean, J Collett rides the horse well and the inside, I think, will be fine.

2 Van Giz (Bet Now:  $SP.00) hasn’t won in a while but this is one of the easier races she has contested in some time. Resumed last Saturday here over this trip where she got back to near last in the run and made up good ground without threatening behind surprise winner Our Bellagio Miss. The depth here is nowhere near as strong, she should be closer in the run and prove hard to hold out.

10 No More Chicken (Bet Now:  $SP.00) deserves a crack in town. Neil Osborne has her absolutely flying this time in, backing up from a win last Friday at Goulburn where she had the suck run behind the speed and knuckled down strongly to win impressively. Clearly more depth here, but there is a query on how well some of these are going whereas she is in super form. A win wouldn’t shock.

Having a peanut each way on 1 Grace’s Secret (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Former Kiwi that was purchased with an eye towards the Flight Stakes, but she hasn’t lived up to that promise and really, if she does nothing here, I wouldn’t be shocked if she heads back to New Zealand. That said, forget she went around on the Kenso fresh when she was wide no cover in what is turning out to be a hot form race, with two subsequent winners coming out of it and Comrade Rosa should have gone close to Gundy Bridge last Wednesday, so the form reads super, gets a jockey upgrade, maps soft…big price to find out if she’s going any good.

2 Royal Merchant (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a slight query at 1400m but it is hard to knock the way she’s going this time in, winning 2/2. Knuckled down strongly to win the maiden fresh over 1100m at Canterbury before a strong win over 1250m on the Kenso, albeit she was blessed in run. If she can stretch her brilliance to 1400m, she likely wins, but she is short enough IMO.

8 Sophia’s Magic (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Former Kiwi mare that makes her Australian debut for Chris Waller. Latest run was November 5 at Te Rapa when down the track behind Encierro. Has had one trial to get ready and seemed to move pretty well to my eye. Better suited over slightly further, but should be strong late and is one to include in wider multiples.

I am a bit surprised that 1 Lion’s Roar (Bet Now:  $SP.00) isn’t favourite. He was an eye catcher with his sectionals two back in the Festival before being a big price in The Ingham and really, another stride and he beats stablemate Kirwan’s Lane. He’s flying this boy and hard fit now, getting to 2000m and doing no work in the run from the gate, he’s the each way bet for sure.

5 Grandslam (Bet Now:  $SP.00) does his best racing when he leads, controls and rolls. That couldn’t eventuate in the Eclipse last time given Keats wanted the front so want to be forgiving of his effort behind Milford. He seems a one trick pony in terms of how to be ridden so hoping he finds the front here and proves hard to run down.

The GaiBott stable are absolutely flying at the moment so with that in mind, happy to include 9 Splendiferous (Bet Now:  $SP.00). She resumed a few weeks ago in the ATC Cup over 2000m and did more than enough I thought, beaten just over three lengths by Bonny Ezra. Better for the run under the belt, she’ll roll forward and the way the stable is going, it’s hard to pen anything they are saddling up at the moment.

Tricky race but leaning towards 12 Miss Lenorr (Bet Now:  $SP.00) for Matty Smith. Caught the eye two back at Wyong when third to Bat Out Of Hell before going to Kembla where she was able to settle closer in the run and in a driving finish, she finished best in a strong display. There is a bit of depth to this line up but 1500m looks ideal and right down in the weights, she’ll do me.

8 Field Legend (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Chris Waller trained four year old that resumes, having not raced since the Frank Packer when down the track on the bottomless deck behind Verona. He has had three trials to get ready for the return and although 1500m is on the short side, he looks to have a bit of quality, so I’d watch the market and see what it does with him.

2 First Light (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a handy stayer for Chris Waller that resumes. He hasn’t raced since September 10 at Rosehill when producing an end of prep run when down the track behind the then in form Herman Hesse. Better suited over further, but he’s looked solid enough in a couple of trials and interesting they get Melham to ride, so I’d watch the market and see what it does.

16 Arranmore (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is worth a peanut each way in the get out. Chris Waller trained mare who hasn’t been too bad in two runs back from a spell, both at Canterbury. Good without much luck fresh behind Edna before bombing the start last time and that sealed her fate when down the track behind Walkin’talkin’. Clean jump here and she can lob into a lovely spot from the gate, proving strong at the end.

6 Carartie (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has the engine under the hood to take this out. She was backed as if she was unbeatable when resuming at Kembla and the plunge was landed, sitting back and launching late for an impressive win, producing the best late splits of the race. Provided there is upside to come, which you’d think there would be, she rates as one of the leading contenders.

1 Regal Pom (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is better suited over further but he is a horse with good talent for Annabel Neasham. He ended his Winter prep on a high with a couple of wins over the mile, the latest at Kembla in early August. Just one soft trial to get ready for his return, so this might be a prep run, but always respect horses that return to racing after ending last prep on a high.
