The Parks track at Morphettville is where Adelaide metro racing takes place this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
Race 1. (14:56) Fleurieu Milk Company Handicap (82) 2250m
4 Wasabi Bob (Bet Now: $2.10) looks a safe way to go. This bloke has been in work a fair while for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable who ran over 2100m at Gawler (Metro) a fortnight ago where he was given a lovely steer from Raquel Clark and from the home turn onwards, after getting the lovely sit just off the speed, it was a rather painless watch. He can continue the picket fence.
3 Olympic Academy (Bet Now: $4.60) is an absolute beauty for the Grant Young stable who seems to run every Saturday. He comes through the Wasabi Bob race from two weeks ago where he seemed to have his chance when running fourth. Far from disgraced, but if you were on, it was a rather disappointing effort. He can bounce back on the bigger track for sure.
What to do with 2 Little White Cloud (Bet Now: $26.00) He’d be a moral if he brought his form when trained by Team Williams. Hasn’t quite produced that form in three runs for Grant Young but hasn’t been too bad given the circumstances. Ran last Saturday on the course and ran last in what looked a decent race won by Royal Rumble. Less depth here and up in trip should suit.
Race 2. (15:31) Hughes Limousines Handicap 1250m
1 Stellar Collision (Bet Now: $4.80) looks well placed. Solid effort on the bog two back on Ballarat Cup Day before being freshened up and racing down the straight at Flemington where he just found them a tad sharp but was far from disgraced behind Chauffeur. Fitter and up to 1200m looks perfect, as does the significant drop in depth. Happy to be in his corner.
4 Mazurek (Bet Now: $2.70) is an absolute beauty for the Chris Bieg stable who rarely runs a bad race. Ran against the mares at Caulfield last time where she was near the speed throughout and battled away well in defeat when a close up fourth to Chatuchak, with that form being franked by Just Hifalutin. Should lead this field up and prove hard to run down.
I think the jury is somewhat out on just how well 3 Karlovasi (Bet Now: $11.00) is going. Couple of solid efforts at Listed level before going to Murray Bridge where he looked a good thing on paper. I thought he was most disappointing there when beaten by Flow Meter, a stayer who was first up. Questionable form for this, but the runs prior do give him a hope.
Race 3. (16:11) Barossa Fine Foods Handicap (75) 1250m
Just siding the way of 4 Illumicon (Bet Now: $2.35). Tony McEvoy trains this talented four year old, who hasn’t raced since August 22 at Sandown when down the track behind Satori, who at the time was flying. Can sprint well fresh and I thought he went well in a Flemington jumpout three weeks ago, and at his best there is a touch of class/quality in his corner.
2 Danger Deal (Bet Now: $3.20) is just struggling to put another win on the board for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable. Impressive first up winner at Morphettville on the course proper and in two subsequent runs, he has performed very admirably but like last prep, keeps finding one or two better. A hard 1250m I have a bit of a doubt over for him, but perhaps with cover and a more conservative ride, he’ll be okay.
1 Street Life (Bet Now: $6.00) is a Karen Byrnes trained gelding who rarely runs a bad race. Rewarded for his consistency with a win on the course proper here two back before going to Gawler (Metro) where he was last in the run and really had no hope of winning but still managed to flash home and run a game fourth. Was 1200-1100 that day so back up to 1250m, he certainly appeals.
Race 4. (16:51) TAB Handicap (82) 1400m
Like 1 Morvada (Bet Now: $3.80) here. Peter Jolly trains this five year old, who ran over 1200m at Gawler (Metro) last time where he settled off the pace in the small field and worked home strongly off a moderate gallop when second to Oamaru Owl. Good record at this track/distance and the speed looks as if it will be more genuine this time around, so he gets his chance to return to the winners list.
I think on current form, 4 Over And Above (Bet Now: $2.30) is the one to beat. He has won two on the bounce, both at Gawler (Metro) over 1200m and 1100m respectively, the latest almost seeing him fall but he ducked and weaved his way through to get the win on the line. Just has to tick the 1400m but is a good chance of doing that if he gets the lead and walks them.
3 Daktari (Bet Now: $9.00) is a talented son of Zeditave resuming for the Dennis O’Leary stable. This bloke hasn’t raced since November 6 on the course proper when finishing down the track behind The Gatting Ball over 2000m. Looked to trial up well at Srathalbyn last week and he did run a beauty first up last campaign at this track/distance behind the handy galloper Holy Command.
Race 5. (17:31) Killer Queen Experience Feb 9 Maiden Plate 1400m
12 Stolen Away (Bet Now: $1.60) just has to overcome the tricky gate to be winning for mine. Will Clarken trains this three year old, who debuted a fortnight back in a maiden at Gawler (Metro) where he was near the speed all the way and he looked to have his chance but just couldn’t quite finish it off when pipped by Exalted Trail. Cross-Over Nose Band goes on, hopefully to make him stronger at the end.
11 Grabbing Glory (Bet Now: $3.50) is on the quick back up for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable after racing last Wednesday at Strathalbyn where she got a mile back in the run but finished off with real purpose late when running second to Small Scale. That was her first run in a few weeks, so she should improve off that and certainly rates as one of the hardest to beat.
Like 7 Bar Gem (Bet Now: $11.00) as a horse. Stuart Gower trains this bloke, who has had two runs back from a break and has been quite good each time he has stepped out. Resumed on the course proper and stuck on nicely when third to Papalet before going to Gawler (Metro) where he was near the speed and battled away well when third to Exalted Trail in a maiden which had depth to it. Not as much depth this time around, so he goes in for sure.
Race 6. (18:10) Schweppes Handicap (70) 1250m
Just how good is 3 Poet’s Landing (Bet Now: $1.50)? That’s the unknown. He’s 2/2 to start his career for Will Clarken, the second win coming four weeks back on the course proper when bolting up, much like what he did on debut. He looks very much well above average and this race doesn’t appear to be overly strong. Confident that this three year old can make it 3/3.
6 Exalted Trail (Bet Now: $5.00) is a Grant Young trained gelding who only comes here off the back of a maiden win, but I think the maiden had some depth to it. It came at Gawler (Metro) a fortnight ago where he was given a lovely steer from Justin Potter and just edged past Stolen Away, who was heavily backed. Think that form will hold up and he can run a bold race here.
8 Stryke In Style (Bet Now: $11.00) is a John Macmillan trained gelding who was somewhat unwanted in betting when debuting at Strathalbyn but he came with a brilliant finale from the back to get the win and produced clearly some of the best late splits of the day. Harder here, but hard not to be impressed by the debut and I think he’s a horse that has to go in exotics.
Race 7. (18:45) Adelaide Cup March 11 Handicap (64) 1400m
3 Silent Ice (Bet Now: $3.00) is a Stephen Theodore trained gelding who is in career best form at the moment. Chased hard to win two back at Murray Bridge before going to Strathalbyn where he made mince meat of his rivals, spanking them by 5.5 lengths. Yet to win in town, but the way he’s racing, and the depth he faces here, he could well break the metro duck.
6 Dexter You Devil (Bet Now: $5.50) is a Shayne Cahill trained four year old who ran at Gawler (Metro) a fortnight ago where he had a relatively good run near the speed and fought on well without really threatening when fourth to Kemalpasa in a race which had more depth than what he faces here. Little while since he has won, but he gets a great chance here.
7 Big Call (Bet Now: $12.00) is a hot and cold galloper for Peter Moody but he’s a sneaky outside winning chance if there is on pace bias. All the way winner two back before coping pressure last time and tiring late. Think he finds the front and will run a cheeky race.
Race 8. (19:20) Nutella Palooza April 20 Handicap (70) 1000m
Pretty keen here on 10 Everyday Lady (Bet Now: $2.40). Had her first run for Will Clarken at Gawler (Metro) a fortnight ago where she settled back off a fast speed before Jamie Kah gave her clear air on the turn and she put them away pretty quickly for a dominant win, her first run in SA after formerly being in Queensland. More depth here, but plenty to like about her that’s for sure.
Happy to butter up and include the John Hickmott trained 2 Crown Fontein (Bet Now: $3.70). Impressive winner two back over 1100m on the course proper here before stepping up to 1200m at Gawler (Metro) where he was backed off the map and to my eye, he seemed to have his chance when second to Kemalpasa. I think back to 1000m suits as he’s a free wheeler. He’ll likely lead, roll along and take beating.
4 Miss Labelle (Bet Now: $11.00) has been in work a fair while for Jon O’Connor but she continues to race really well. Ran over 1050m on the course proper here last time where she sat near the speed throughout and gave a really good kick when challenged, finding plenty late to win. Think she’ll land on speed again, hopefully with cover and be dangerous at the end.
