25/6/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Belmont, Strickland Stakes day

The Belmont Winter Carnival continues this Saturday where it is Strickland Stakes Day. The weather is fine, the track is soft (5) and the rail is out nine metres for the entire circuit.

11 Amjaad (Bet Now: $4.80) is a Flying Artie filly for Simon Miller that is on debut. She had two trials in the Autumn without setting the world on fire. Spelled, she’s come back and gee she looked sharp in a recent trial win here. Market will be fascinating to see which way it goes with her.

8 One Cool Gal (Bet Now: $2.90) looks a talented filly for Dan Morton. She debuted at the midweeks here where she had the suck run behind the speed. The gap came and she went through her gears like a nice horse, showing good change up speed to win. Confident she measures up.

This is a class/depth rise for 7 Diamond Command (Bet Now: $6.00) but she will be strong late if they overdo it in front. Debuted over 1200m here at the midweeks where she was run off her legs early but picked up late and surged hard to win in good style. Key threat against these.

Tricky race with a host of chances. Leaning towards 13 She’s Puzzling (Bet Now: $8.50), who comes here off the back of a maiden win at Pinjarra where she had the suck run in transit. Just a matter of pushing the button and once Azzopardi did, away she went. Has run well at metro level before, so confident she measures up.

9 Gold Merits (Bet Now: $7.00) is a Jim Taylor trained mare that resumes. This girl did a really good job during the Summer/Autumn, running consistently at Saturday metro level. Not a noted fresh horse but has trialled well leading in and 1300m fresh tells me she’s forward enough to run a positive race.

12 Ninetyone Dwyer (Bet Now: $9.50) deserves a crack in town again. Just missed out on the win here two back before dropping back to the Provincials at Pinjarra where she looked a good thing on paper and duly made a mess of them. Bit of depth to this line up, but hard to knock the way she’s racing.

Was keen on 3 Reliable Star (Bet Now: $2.90) last Saturday and happy to butter up again. I just thought CJP waited a bit too long to push the button on the mare because she’s one paced and the turn of foot Sluice Box had was the difference. 200m past the line, Reliable Star was a couple of lengths in front. Gets the claim for Holly Watson and she’s not afraid to push the button.

7 Sunsphere (Bet Now: $4.60) has been up a little while but is racing in pretty good form. Last couple of runs have come over 2100m here, winning two back at the midweeks, aided by a peach from Holly Watson, before racing two weeks ago here and didn’t quite get the rub of the green behind Acting God. CJP on, with better luck, he can threaten.

9 Admired (Bet Now: $26.00) can be an improver for Gary Crispin. Last couple of runs have seen him do a stack of work to get on speed and felt the pinch late each time, the latest behind Acting God. The form prior was solid and with better luck in the run, he can run an improved race at odds.

8 My Baby Blue Jean (Bet Now: $4.60) on top. Talented filly that resumes for Adam Durrant and I do hope they are treating her as a 1000-1100m horse because that is when she has been most effective. They tried her at 1200m last prep last run and it didn’t work. She’s a short course filly and she looks ready to go off the back of a sharp Lark Hill trial win.

4 Astrape… (Bet Now: $7.50) is she back? She did some okay things in the Summer without raving but gee she was an impressive winner here last Wednesday when resuming, producing a nice turn of foot from off the speed to score. Repeats that here, she’s clearly in the mix.

3 Heavenly Waters (Bet Now: $41.00) is a Roy Rogers trained filly that resumes. She hasn’t raced since March 5 when on speed over 1200m at Ascot and battling away okay in defeat behind River Rubicon. Resumes without a trial but she’s got good early speed, she runs well fresh and has a touch of class when right. She’ll give a bold sight. Last bit will test.

Happy to speck 1 Fangio (Bet Now: $9.00) each way. Roy Rogers trained mare that is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday at this track/distance where she got back to near last in the run and despite never being a threat, she was good late behind a very much in form Billy Ray. Third up and hard fit, with a significant jockey upgrade, I think she’ll run well.

1650m I find interesting with 3 Via Monte (Bet Now: $3.70) but have to respect the stable and the decision they make. Ran over 1300m here two weeks ago where he was near the speed throughout and battled away pretty well in defeat behind Seduce Me. If he sees the mile out okay, his best is good enough.

10 Thorogood (Bet Now: $18.00) can run an improved race. Forgive his last start down the track effort at Pinjarra when wide no cover on speed and that hard run just told late. Solid win at this track/distance the start prior and Paul Harvey, who rode to victory, is back on for this assignment.

I reckon back to 1200m is ideal for 9 Gunmetal Grey (Bet Now: $9.00). Talented mare for Ross Price that has raced over 1400m her past couple and has run okay without really attacking the line with purpose, which is why I feel back in trip is a big tick for her, she maps well and good lead that C Parnham sticks.

4 Burnya To Survive (Bet Now: $3.60) is a very promising animal for Jason Miller that resumes. He did a really good job during the Summer, winning 4/4 and establishing himself as a proper Saturday class horse. 1200m is on the short side for him but it’s all upside and he has steadily improved in the trials. Market watch.

7 Cross Statement (Bet Now: $9.50) can bounce back dropping in grade/depth. Found a solid 72+ two weeks back here where he had a suck run behing the speed and battled away behind It’sarayday. He was a month between runs then so you’d like to think there is improvement to come.

Fitter and up to 1400m, it all points to 4 Chili Is Hot (Bet Now: $7.00). This mare resumed over 1200m here two weeks ago where she got back to near last in the run and worked to the line hard late when second to It’sarayday. Gets an extra 200m, fitter, Harvey on…she’s the one to beat.

9 Brave Dream (Bet Now: $6.00) is a promising mare for Adam Durrant that resumes. This girl hasn’t raced since August 28 when a dominant winner over the mile here in what has turned out to be a strong form reference. Couple of trials this time in have been good, look for her to warm to the task late.

3 Cheval De Vaga (Bet Now: $9.00) can run an improved race. Resumed over 1200m here three weeks back when wide no cover on speed and tired late behind Startrade, who won again last Saturday to frank the form. Love him up to 1400m and with his best, he is certainly good enough.

Have to be with 7 God Has Chosen (Bet Now: $1.90). I reckon if CJP had his time again, he would have gone outside rather than stay inside and probe two weeks ago in the Hyperion. In the end, I think it cost him the win. His splits suggest 2000m is ideal and he’s clearly the one for me.

2 Platoon (Bet Now: $17.00) is a big improver from the Hyperion. It was a prep run for him, ridden negatively and coming very wide on the turn, he was pretty strong between the 800-200m but condition gave out late. Love him up in trip and dangerous if he can settle closer in the run.

1 Rostropovich (Bet Now: $26.00) is an interesting runner. Resumed in the Hyperion, with 1600m clearly short of his best. He was never a factor but he actually worked to the line okay late in the piece. He might want one more, but he does have a class factor. One for wider exotics.

5 Angelic Miss (Bet Now: $9.00) on top. Resumed two weeks ago over 1000m here where she was chasing a strong speed and being first up, her condition just gave out late but was good in defeat behind Bright Diamond. Much better second up record and she saves her best for 1200m. Hard to beat.

4 It’sarayday (Bet Now: $2.60) is a quality three year old for Simon Miller that had clear excuses two back before producing the goods a fortnight back, with class coming to the fore when it counted. Not sure what upside he has got left, but he gets run of the race from the draw.

8 Jericho Missile (Bet Now: $34.00) is a very interesting runner. David Harrison trained gelding that resumes, having not raced since January 29 when far from disgraced at Ascot in the Scenic Blast behind Hot Zed. He resumes without a trial but he can sprint well fresh and gets Paul Harvey to steer.

BEST BET: Race Eight Number 7 God Has Chosen

NEXT BEST: Race Three Number 3 Reliable Star

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 1 Fangio
