Flemington will play host to an eight event card on Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

VRC St Leger 🏆: View the Field and Odds for the VRC St Leger
Race 1. (13:00) Tab We're On (Bm84) 2500m
9 Kurakka (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard fit and is dangerous against these. He ran three weeks back over 2400m at Caulfield when near the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through. That said, he was game in defeat I thought behind The Western Front. Has good upside to come and this is a race well within reach.
8 Bluestone (Bet Now: $SP.00) is finding it hard to win but is honest and will be strong late, as seen several weeks ago at Caulfield when off speed and was good late when second to Zulu Angel. Bursting to win and yes, a perennial placegetter, but he’ll be strong late and won’t mind a drop of rain.
7 Samuel Langhorne (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in the mix for me. He was solid in defeat two back in the Lord Reims before going to the Adelaide Cup where he got back to near last in the run and was never a factor. Much better suited here I feel and if the inside gate can be used to advantage, he’ll take holding out.
Race 2. (13:35) The Les Carlyon (Bm70) 1400m
6 Carriedo (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a rocket for Grahame Begg. Not sure what she beat at Sandown on Easter Monday but the manner in which she let down when asked, it was incredibly sharp and a horse destined for better races. If she holds her form, she wins.
2 Next Jen (Bet Now: $SP.00) has had several weeks off since contesting the Alexandra at Caulfield when attempting to lead throughout and tired late behind Getta Good Feeling. Tick over jumpout was good and like her back to 1400m.
1 Yum (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran over this track/distance several weeks back on testing ground. She got back in the run and made up minimal headway behind Exit. Back on firmer footing, I am not dismissing her.
Race 3. (14:10) Anzac Day Stakes 1400m
1 Blind Raise (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes here off the back of an Easter Monday debut win at this trip, where he sat off speed and was trucking before being given clear air and he got better as the race went on to win and win well. He looks progressive and should take beating here.
3 Drumfire (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands respect. He placed last start over 1100m on the Kenso, trying hard from off speed but couldn’t get past Under Focus. Like him to 1400m and with a positive ride, he’ll take running down.
5 Prime Pattern (Bet Now: $SP.00) did start favourite in the Easter Monday race at Sandown mentioned above that Blind Raise won. He was back off speed and in a sit/sprint, he wasn’t suited and just whacked. More genuine tempo here, he’s an improver.
Race 4. (14:45) Wgcdr Ian Bayles Dfc (Bm74) 1800m
3 Skippers Canyon (Bet Now: $SP.00) should love the rise to the mile. He resumed a few weeks ago over 1400m at Caulfield where he was one of the first off the bit but loved the way he kept chasing and finding the line in defeat. Fitter and up in trip, he should take a power of beating against these.
2 Mukhtalif (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a progressive type for Ciaron Maher. Aussie debut was three weeks ago over this trip at Caulfield when ridden like the best horse in the race and won as such. Good test here but commands respect.
13 Chiringita (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in the mix. Price/Kent trained mare that hasn’t been too bad this prep, the latest run being three weeks back at Caulfield when just off speed and seemingly had his chance when fourth to Terilee. One for exotics.
Race 5. (15:20) Auckland Thoroughbred Racing Inc Trophy (Bm100) 1400m
4 King Zephyr (Bet Now: $SP.00) was a total forgive from several weeks ago over 1200m at Caulfield. He was one of many that struggled on the inside slop and was beaten 600m out so the fact he stuck on and didn’t run last, he was full of merit in defeat. If he is to be a Stradbroke horse, he has to be winning this. Confident he can.
8 Miss Aria (Bet Now: $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since racing in the CS Hayes Memorial at Morphettville. She got into a decent spot in transit and tried hard but couldn’t quite see it through behind Arran Bay. If she brings her best, she can win.
7 Big Swinger (Bet Now: $SP.00) is dangerous for mine after resuming over 1200m a few weeks back. He landed in a decent spot just off speed and was there to win I thought but just lacked the killer finale. Fitter and up in trip, he’s a definite improver and his best is clearly good enough.
Race 6. (15:55) Vrc St Leger 2800m
16 Silvasista (Bet Now: $SP.00) will love getting to 2800m for Team McEvoy. She didn’t beat much last week at Donald over 2200m, but she relaxed so well in the run and looked the winner a long way out, getting better as the race went on. That tells me more ground is no issue, confident she can measure up.
4 Haiiro (Bet Now: $SP.00) did a really good job against the older horse on Stawell Cup Day over 2700m. He chased with purpose from off speed and battled away really well when third. He’ll run all day and this isn’t an overly deep contest.
3 Johnich (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Galilee when wide no cover for the trip and the hard run told late in the piece behind Single Choice. Maps to get a much better run in transit, he’s a knockout hope.
Race 7. (16:30) Flt Lt Peter Armytage (Bm100) 2000m
15 Zakouma (Bet Now: $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since a track/distance win, making an absolute mess of them and stamping himself as a potential candidate to be an up and comer for the Spring. Fresh legs from that wet track run, I think good luck beating him.
4 Plymouth (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes through the Easter Cup from three weeks back. He was near last in the run and held up at times. Never really a winning threat but his finale was more than sound. Think he’ll love getting to Flemington and does have class in his own right.
1 Land Legend (Bet Now: $SP.00) was sneaky good in the Anniversary Vase I thought. He got back to near last in the run but was good late without threatening behind Al Duca. Fitter, 2000m, firmer deck, he will take beating with his class edge.
Race 8. (17:05) William Newton Vc (Bm78) 1400m
3 Everain (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been kept on ice since a win over this trip at Sandown on March 11. He had the sweet sit in behind before getting clear and knuckled down with purpose late to get there, just. Tick over trial was strong and this looks a race well within reach.
10 Arcandam (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes to town off the back of an impressive win over this trip at Geelong, getting the decent sit off speed before being angled for clear air and away he went to win and win well. Good test here but confident he can measure up.
6 Theblade (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the first up run, which came over 1200m at Caulfield where he looked in need of the run and ran accordingly behind Rue De Royale. Fitter and up in trip, he’s an improver at odds.
