A strong nine race card has been assembled for the Sunshine Coast this Sunday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (12:52) ANZAC DAY MDN PLATE 2200m
I think the rise to 2200m suits 4 Dear Sibling (Bet Now: $1.90). John Moore trained three year old that ran over 1700m at Grafton last time out and I thought the ride from Grisedale was a tad negative. Just waited too long to get going for clear air and by the time he did, it was race over and he charged late to run second. Got upside and the way he has been racing, the 2200m here should be no issue.
7 Dutch Delight (Bet Now: $7.00) has had a number of chances to break the maiden tag but the Symons/Laxon camp has her racing well and finds another very winnable maiden. Ran over 2150m at Ipswich last time out where she was well supported to win the race. Tracked up and for a few strides looked the winner. Just couldn’t quite finish it off. Leading chance against these.
6 Blue Corner (Bet Now: $7.00) should be suited at 2200m. Matty Kropp trained mare that has raced over 1800m at Toowoomba her past two. Just missed out on the win two back, then looked to have her chance last time. Perhaps is looking for more ground and should do no work from the inside draw.
Race 2. (13:27) LEST WE FORGET HCP (C1) 1200m
1 Angel Like (Bet Now: $2.40) was scratched from Doomben on Saturday in preference for this. Kacy Fogden trained filly that was a sharp winner over 1000m here a few weeks ago, sitting on speed before being clicked up in the straight and she showed good change up speed to win and win well in solid time. Finds a winnable race here.
2 Mishani Trouble (Bet Now: $10.00) is on the quick back up for Les Ross after racing last Saturday at Eagle Farm. He was never really a winning factor given where he was in the run but liked the way he finished off his race behind impressive winner Debussy. Fitter and up to 1200m, he appeals.
5 Chester’s Angel (Bet Now: $4.50) is a Craig Smith trained juvenile that was specked at odds when resuming over 1050m at Rockhampton and the bets were landed. Sat on speed throughout and once he was given his head, he dashed away and was sharp, running good time in the process. I think he can measure up to this lot.
Race 3. (14:02) CALOUNDRA RSL SUB BRANCH MDN 1200m
Very tricky maiden to sort out with confidence. 3 Allez Zou (Bet Now: $2.70) is racing like the 1200m will suit so I’ll lean his way. Natalie McCall trains this son of Zoustar, who has had three runs back from a break, all of which have come at 1000m at this track. Last start he just missed, so I think the rise in trip suits and should get a lovely run from the gate.
7 Moonshiner (Bet Now: $3.70) is a Chris Munce trained three year old that resumes. This guy teased to win races when last in work, but just couldn’t quite get the job done and placed on a number of occasions. Two of his four career placings have come when produced fresh and went well enough in a recent trial win.
8 The Virus (Bet Now: $9.00) is on debut for Rob Heathcoate and I think he commands respect. His trial last week at Doomben, it saw him back in the run and under riding, he closed off pretty well I thought in a solid piece of work. Tricky draw, but a win wouldn’t shock at all with this three year old.
Race 4. (14:37) SCTC HOPS/HORSES TWILIGHT MDN 1200m
This time of year, two year olds in maidens taking on older horses is gold so with that in mind, I’m going with 10 Dubai Classic (Bet Now: $26.00), who resumes for Kelly Schweida. Debuted at Ipswich back in November and didn’t exactly set the world on fire, likewise in the trial, but this race is a bit on the thin side, he has gate speed and should land in a beaut spot from the draw.
2 Brut Gold (Bet Now: $1.55) has had a mini freshen up for Stuart Kendrick since racing at the Gold Coast. Market took a real set against him late and it proved spot as the money arrived for Examples. That horse bolted in while Brut Gold was back and held up, but did work home with purpose. Hard to beat against these.
6 Laurie (Bet Now: $10.00) is a knockout chance. Matty Kropp trained three year old that was good late fresh at Warwick before going to Toowoomba where he was back near last in the run and never really a winning factor but liked the way he finished off his race. If he’s within range on the turn, he’s good enough to be dangerous.
Race 5. (15:12) WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS-C4 1600m
3 Drumadoir (Bet Now: $4.40) has pretty solid Saturday form around her and has a liking for the Sunny Coast so she goes on top. Month between runs since racing at Doomben where she found the class a bit much but was far from disgraced in defeat behind Guise, who won last Saturday to tick the form off. Gets in well after the claim and strikes a winnable race.
Chris Anderson has 1 Firebox (Bet Now: $3.80) flying at the moment. Got the job done over 1400m at Eagle Farm last time out and though out of petrol tickets late, he had enough in hand to fend them off and win. The mile is the query but with an economic run in transit, he can take this out.
6 Main De Foi (Bet Now: $4.20) is third up here and should just about be at peak fitness. Ran over 1400m here last start and I thought Bayliss gave her a peach. She was there to win the race but just couldn’t quite get there when a close up third. Has a good record at the track/distance so she commands respect.
Race 6. (15:47) ACCESS INSULATION S'COAST-BM65 2200m
2 Group Think (Bet Now: $4.80) for me. Ed O’Rourke trained four year old that had his first look at the trip at Grafton last time out. Just got too far back in the run but liked the way he finished his race off when fourth to Pressing Matters, a pretty solid stayer in that part of the world. Better for the run and Bayliss back on, leading chance.
1 Youngblood (Bet Now: $3.10) should be suited back to this level. Has the talent under the hood to be a Saturday class horse but at times, his endeavour and what is between his head is questionable and that has been the undoing of him in recent runs. If he brings his best, he wins. Just rather see him do it than back him.
7 Past Tense (Bet Now: $8.50) can be an improver here. Chris Waller trained mare that has had three runs back from a break, each of them at the Gold Coast and on wet ground. Weather forecast is fine so I think she’ll get a firm deck and out to a more ideal trip, she can run a bold race at odds.
Race 7. (16:22) TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY (BM65) 1000m
4 Streaka (Bet Now: $6.00) does look to have ability. Big win first up over 800m at Ipswich. Those races, for the most part you take with a grain of salt, but he was very impressive given he was tailed off last early and chasing from the outset. I’m keen to see how he goes on a bigger track, up in trip, against good opposition.
6 Snappy Reply (Bet Now: $2.35) has the runs on the board to give this a shake. Game in defeat fresh when fourth to Toorooloo. Then raced at Doomben again two weeks ago and ran a solid third to the well performed Ballistic Lover with Simply Fly in second. That has to read well for a race like this.
13 Still Reigning (Bet Now: $10.00) deserves another chance I feel. Gave them a spanking when resuming with a maiden win here. Then raced on a bottomless track at Doomben and just couldn’t pick her feet up, so forgive and forget she went around. Off the first up win, she’s in the mix here.
Race 8. (16:57) HAPPY BIRTHDAY N MAGUIRE-BM65 1200m
6 Shamrock Lu (Bet Now: $2.20) on top. Tony Gollan trained three year old that has been given a mini freshen up since winning impressively over 1200m at Doomben, sitting on speed and fighting on strongly to get the job done. Think on a drying deck, he’ll take a power of beating against these.
13 Set Me Up (Bet Now: $4.60) is a handy filly resuming for the Symons/Laxon camp. Did a very good job in her first prep, winning here on debut before a game second at Ipswich. Then thrown in the deep end during the Magic Millions Carnival and ran out of her skin behind Stolen Jade. That form has to read well for this despite resuming with no public trials.
1 Invigorating (Bet Now: $7.50) should appreciate a firmer surface. O’Dea/Hoysted trained mare that resumed a few weeks back at the Gold Coast and ran okay without setting the world on fire behind Axe, who bolted up last Saturday to tick the form off furthermore. Back on a dry track, she can improve sharply.
Race 9. (17:30) SKY RACING HCP (C1) 1400m
Remaining at 1400m is the knock with 3 Fortified (Bet Now: $2.25) but he does look the most progressive of this lot. Chris Waller trained son of Ocean Park that resumed over the trip at the Gold Coast where he didn’t seem to handle the wet track but picked up late and was good to the line and through it. If this was 1600m, no betting, but still feel he’s good enough to win.
4 Pernell (Bet Now: $8.50) can be an improver here. Team Edmonds trains this three year old, who was an alarming betting drift when resuming at the Gold Coast and the market got it right. Landed near the speed and didn’t fire a shot. Had trialled well leading in, and with a jockey upgrade, he can take this out.
2 Bofors (Bet Now: $9.50) is running out of chances but he has the talent under the hood for Stuart Kendrick. Comes back to 1400m after racing over 1800m here two weeks ago. I thought he had his chance but didn’t finish it off behind Consular. His best is good enough. Just want to see him do it.
